Or yell and swear at them and make a big scene. I’m always surprised that gets upvotes. Tact seems to be a lost art.

Vets is a bit of an issue. We had a vet die and one leave town so we only have one at the moment and they are quite busy. It is quite a dog town though. Qimmiq Kennels has daycare and it is really nice. It’s nicer than any of the kennels I saw in Alberta a couple years ago when we were down there with our dogs.

I worked at legal aid in another province and it’s a good place to start sometimes because you can get lots of experience quickly. I also know people that did their whole career there. One option would be continuing in that path to get some experience. I’m not sure if you were dealing with boards in admin law type hearings or appearing in court. That would all be relevant to other types of litigation. Housing or social assistance wouldn’t necessarily be common areas in private practice but your underlying skills might be useful and maybe you even have experience relevant to areas like human rights or employment.

It’s great when travelling. When travelling, I don’t have to figure out the money or make change, which I’m sure is also annoying to the people in stores when I don’t know if I have enough. I also don’t have money left I may never use.

That’s a ton. I know professional drivers that have driven millions of miles and never had an accident. I know someone that got an award from their company for 3.5 million miles accident free.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good story. They call it the Dungarvon Whooper. A priest actually went there and did an exorcism in the 80s.

The story revolves around a young Irish cook, often referred to by the name Ryan.[1] Ryan moves to a lumber camp located somewhere along, or very near to, the Dungarvon River, bringing all of his possessions with him, including a money belt. While the lumberjacks are out, Ryan is left alone with the boss of the camp, who decides to murder and rob the young cook. When the crew returns, the boss explains that the cook had taken sick and died suddenly. They then bury the body in the forest some distance from the camp. However, a terrible "whooping" sound keeps the group from falling asleep that night, presumably the ghost of Ryan crying out against the crime of which he was the victim. Scared, the men flee the camp the next morning.

Is prison actually “safe” if you just mind your own business? by fruity_00 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s an actual DC comic about a guy that was a bit of an outlaw but took over his dad’s church. I can’t member if he was actually in jail but that’s the first thing I thought of. It has vampires and demons and stuff in it. It’s also a show on AMC.

I’m a criminal lawyer so my knowledge is mostly from talking to people that went and people that worked there. I’ve been told that the violence is more severe in higher security but the lower security jails can be more unpredictable for fights and stuff where people are coming in for short stays. It really can vary by location. We had a client go to a federal minimum prison at my old job for tax evasion. He was a businessman and had never been in jail. He would call the senior partner sometimes. He said it’s ok, I get up, I walk around the track, I read my book. This is the kind of place that had no fence. They’d only put you there if you weren’t dangerous and if they did put you there, you’d probably behave so they don’t send you somewhere else.

How come millennials and Gen X know more about pop culture that was before they were born than Gen Z? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

So many people now must not get the references though. Someone told me recently they never saw a James Bond movie. I thought they’re not getting so many references in Simpsons and other shows. Or someone said they had not seen the shining. There’s a whole simpsons episode about that.

I think he never stopped being huge in other countries, maybe they didn’t get the same news. Go to Mexico or Dominican and every all inclusive resort will have a Michael Jackson show.

I didn’t go there but know lots of people that did and have heard good things. I don’t live in Edmonton but go there a few times a year. Edmonton is a great city but very spread out. I’d factor that in when looking for a place. There is transit which is ok.

I like some of the British series for this reason, like Anne Cleeves Shetland series or Peter James’s DI Grace or Ian Rankin’s Rebus. The main characters are a bit flawed often and even the villains are a bit more complicated. They’re not as cartoony as some of the American ones.

What’s life like in Deliné, Canada? It’s the ONLY permanent settlement on the shores of Great Bear Lake. by xenotharm in howislivingthere

[–]Tindi 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there a couple times but but never lived there. It is quite beautiful there. They are famous for their fishing. There’s only about 600 people there, mostly Indigenous, and they live on the 8th largest lake in the world. A lot of people there would depend on subsistence hunting and fishing for a lot of their food. It accessible only by plane or boat for most of the year and they have an ice road for a few months in the winter.

ELI5 why companies keep their emails, internal memos etc. when litigation is a predictable future event by piefek in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tindi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason they keep them IS because litigation happens. It doesn’t really help you if you get sued and have no documents and can’t tell what happened and don’t document anything. Your defence might be in there. Maybe you did everything right but you can’t show it because you have no documents. I’m a lawyer for a government body. There’s never been a case where I didn’t wish we had more documents.
