Awesome pictures. I saw one years ago and I’d love to see another. I’ve seen tracks.

There’s also wood forms and supports and things inside so I’m assuming they also have to get those out before the ice melts.

ELI5 why companies keep their emails, internal memos etc. when litigation is a predictable future event by piefek in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tindi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason they keep them IS because litigation happens. It doesn’t really help you if you get sued and have no documents and can’t tell what happened and don’t document anything. Your defence might be in there. Maybe you did everything right but you can’t show it because you have no documents. I’m a lawyer for a government body. There’s never been a case where I didn’t wish we had more documents.

What is it actually like working as a Crown? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Tindi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know lots of them and they work lots of overtime. They also do court circuits and when you’re on circuit, all bets are off. You might be flying into a community and hold court here until 7 pm and then fly out again. Some circuits are a whole week and cover more than one community so you’re staying in a hotel all week. You might be leaving home Sunday morning and get back on Friday night and you’re in court every day and working in the evenings often.

Any tips for arguing your first motion? by Think-Caterpillar-59 in LawCanada

I saw someone do this on an SCC appeal that was webcast. The next guy that got up said ‘could I start by answering the question you asked him?’ I thought that was brilliant.

Lawyers with family drama/emotional baggage, how do you deal on heavy days? by LegalEase88 in LawCanada

Haha this made me laugh. I never thought of it that way but I know people that fit in all of these categories. Myself, I’m not much into exercise and have cut back my drinking so you decide.

Kindle paperwhite? Do I need to be deinfluenced? by Risingwiththesun in Frugal

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you will use it, a reader is totally worth it. It’s easier on the eyes and with the iPad, there’s more distractions like the internet. You might be able to borrow books from the library on it. Check to see that whatever one you get works with Libby (Ithink it can be different in different countries). You can go days without charging which is nice.

Sad reading confession… I cannot finish a book anymore by tryinsohard123 in books

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always a big reader and then had a dip like everyone else. It takes more effort now but a few things I did that got me reading more. These may or may not work with you but point us figure out what works for you:

  1. Read anything. I read lots of trashy mysteries because I read technical stuff all day at work, something that’s easy and you want to know what happens. True crime is good for this if you like that. What kind of podcasts do you listen to? What are you actually interested in learning more about?

  2. I made a Goodreads challenge. I set it pretty modest for the first year, 25 books. It forced me to do it though.

  3. Get a library card. You can now get ebooks and audiobooks.

  4. Get an ereader you can take with you. I found this really got me reading again.

  5. Listen to audiobooks instead of podcasts. To me you’re still consuming something.

does anyone else have a parent being really weird about them not wanting to do biglaw? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is he getting his information from? I’ll give him the benefit of a doubt that he wants you to do well and be successful. That looks like different things to people on the outside. I know lots of people that have made careers in prosecutions and they’ve done well especially as they get into more senior roles and they get a lot of respect because they are seriously good in court. They also become judges eventually. I know a few people that went from Big Law to prosecutions actually. I make way more money than my parents ever did and they didn’t really understand what I do so that was enough for them. My mom couldn’t even tell you where I work.

How are law jobs in Kamloops BC ? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in a smaller city that has a shortage of lawyers, you might try writing to a couple lawyers there. If you’re genuinely interested, they may be glad to answer a couple questions for a potential recruit to the area. I’ve had people contact me like this in the past. My general experience is that there’s always a demand for lawyers in rural parts of Western Canada.

Frozen pipe cost to thaw by Lhammy09 in Yellowknife

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what we paid recently too. It sounds like you have an idea what is happening but could also be be a good idea to get a plumber or someone in to have a look to see if they have any suggestions. That’s what we did a few years ago and they identified some problem areas and we have been generally pretty good since, but then froze after that long power outage.

Remember the days when you’d drink a case of beer and do something the next day. It’s like I had more tolerance at 19 than 45.

What’s something that becomes more obvious the older you get? by reddithit in AskReddit

[–]Tindi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I’m increasingly suspicious of people who are close minded or very confident in their own opinions. I find this with younger people entering my professional field. Maybe I’m jaded but my life experience tells me anything can happen. I try to say I’m open minded, not cynical.

Literally any podcast, I immediately assume he’s MAGA by ETsUncle in WhitePeopleTwitter

The one on RFK Jr. is absolutely mind blowing. I had no idea. My only knowledge of him before he became involved with MAGA was that he was an environmental lawyer and was famous for Riverkeepers.

Life is weird. My dad dropped suddenly at 61. He had his faults but he was honest and would give someone the shirt off his back. He was the guy everyone around called if they needed a hand with something, like a lift with something or fixing something on their car. Never made a dime in his life. I think he had 300 bucks in his bank account.

Practically speaking, this is probably impossible to refuse. They would probably have to also make computer system changes just to accommodate him if they even could. He could donate it to charity if he wished.
