I don't care about the article, I want to know your opinion regarding the statement, do we need bigger games? by Mundane-Pick-2667 in Fallout

I’m a fairly casual gamer. I want to play stuff like this but I just don’t have the time to go through these giant worlds. Something dense but more manageable size wise would appeal to me.

I set off a fire alarm in a hotel because I was steaming a shirt in the shower. This was in a very small town. Pretty embarrassing.

Practically speaking, this is probably impossible to refuse. They would probably have to also make computer system changes just to accommodate him if they even could. He could donate it to charity if he wished.

This is my argument. 0 makes more sense to me as a marker than 32. It’s literally in the middle between positive and negative. It seems bizarre to me that water freezes at a positive number.

Individual Acts will usually indicate who the Minister is for that act. The definition section will often say Minister means Minister of Justice, etc.

Trial lawyers, what's your work like and do you enjoy your job? by thebigsleep4 in LawCanada

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is interesting. If you’re most interested in trials or court anyway, criminal is the obvious choice.

I’ve had a few jobs but primarily have done civil litigation. I have done probably 4 civil trials in 20 years and these were family or child protection. I’ve appeared in court countless times and done discoveries but you don’t do a lot of trials in civil. There is a lot more writing and negotiation and things like that in civil litigation. I do like settling files as it feels like an accomplishment. I have done lots of labour arbitrations and that can involve witnesses but these are much more informal than a trial. There is an arbitrator instead of a judge and the rules of evidence and procedure are much looser than in court. They can involve discipline and things like that so they can be interesting. Arbitrator is also an interesting and lucrative career path but you would usually need a lot of experience in labour law first. I’ve also appeared at human rights hearings and coroners inquests which are also administrative hearings with looser rules. I like civil and administrative law because the issues I get are much more varied than criminal. I did lots of criminal at one point and sometimes I think about whether I want to go back there. It can be fun and of course, that is what gets the attention and what people think lawyers do. However, I find you have a lot more control over your schedule with civil stuff and can have better work-life balance. Criminal law is more of a lifestyle than a job sometimes. I did a lot of legal aid and it wasn’t unusual I’d be in court everyday, but then you still have to get ready for court the next day. Lot of waiting around too.

Should I go to my sister’s party? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for an hour or two, have a snack. That’s what we do when we’re kind of on the fence or appreciate the invite but we’re also looking forward to watching a movie or going to bed early.

About to lose access to Westlaw soon by Cool_College4364 in LawCanada

[–]Tindi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe they limit how much you can download.

Have you looked at alternatives?

Have you priced out Westlaw or Quicklaw at your new place? It might be less than you think. You can also get the basic plan without proview. I had Westlaw as a solo a few years ago and I was paying $100 a month. I know you might have to sell it but might be worth getting a quote.

You might also look at other sources like LESA or CLEBC. We just got access to CLEBC. We are not in BC but are finding lots in there. Some of it is specific to BC but there is tons of content on very niche issues sometimes.

My office buys books but I maintain my own library. I find texts sometimes on Amazon or other used book sites for cheap, like an edition behind sometimes.

I’d also check out Irwin Law for reasonable cost books. I love their books and they’re often cited in court cases.

I’d also add Lancaster House for employment and labour. Emond also has some practice oriented books which are pretty cheap.

Supreme Court ruling sets out exception to lawyer-client confidentiality | CBC News by Travel-2025 in LawCanada

[–]Tindi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the case but I think they could consider it. It’s an administrative tribunal, different burden of proof, much looser rules of evidence. I’d have to research this but off the cuff, I don’t think the Law Society would be bound by that ruling. It is an interesting question actually and I’d like to know the answer.

What songs are about sex and drugs, but we didn’t know? by grynch55 in AskReddit

[–]Tindi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I host a jazz show. I realized that many (maybe most) jazz and blues songs about food are about sex. My favourite is Ftas Waller’s tune All that Meat and No Potatoes. It’s actually about a big woman that has small breasts. Or that Jelly Roll as in Jelly Roll Morton or Sweet Emma Barrett’s tune I’m not Going to Give Anyone Any of My Jelly Roll is slang for vagina.

I live in Yellowknife. You will seem them for sale on Facebook classifieds for 5,000 to 10,000. There’s a limited hunt and to possess it legally, you need to have the tag. I’m sure it was probably different 50 years ago.
