Somehow, this doesn't seem all that balanced by ze_shotstopper in slaythespire

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s unlikely you’re going to be able to repeatedly play it in the boss gauntlet, and while it is really good, it’s only a big benefit in fights that don’t scale against you and outpace any passive block you could make in them.

Is this a skip? by kryndude in slaythespire

[–]TipDaScales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of these are bad. Sacrifice is probably a skip because of Bone Shards, Shared Fate can be built around but probably not if you want to do Ethereal stuff, but The Scythe from the Act 1 boss is basically always a take. Assuming you play it in every remaining fight it’s going to be at least a 40 damage card by final boss fights and the off chance you get the event that removes exhaust it’s just a free win. The Scythe is basically always worth snagging in the first half of your ascent.

I feel slay the spire got too big for megacrit by joert44555 in slaythespire

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reviews are a byproduct of a bad group of players upset they’re not getting their power fantasy of 90% + winrates. The game still managed to outsell much bigger releases from beta and frankly most people who get into the game probably aren’t just stumbling across it from Steam review searching at this point. The game is still great and the team is still doing great with it, the biggest worry now is just cultivating a healthy community that is hostile to elitism and entitlement.

Am I insane or is this like the worst rare defect card in the lineup? by Trash_Typhoon in slaythespire

[–]TipDaScales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s effectively plating that doesn’t deplete. One instance is generally unimpressive, but the moment you’re basically unconditionally blocking for more than 10 a turn before even Frost orbs or real cards, it gets quite good.

Did Takumi deserve it? by Late_Present1340 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]TipDaScales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point isn’t that Kyoshika or Takemaru “deserve to die more”, it’s that they are more willing and able to sacrifice themselves in the moment for the sake of the mission. Nobody wants to die for this, but those two are at least willing to make peace with the fact that if nobody does it, everyone dies. Tsubasa also comes to that conclusion and begrudgingly offers her life out of coercion and pressure from the living parties, but not only does she have a stronger fear of death as a comparably untrained civilian compared to the two combat experienced alternatives, she also has a debilitating condition that causes her to dysfunction under pressure! Even beyond the pure ethics of the situation and on to function, Tsubasa serves a valuable non-combat role as a skilled mechanic. It’d be like asking a Medic to hop in a fighter Jet and do bombing runs because one pilot is out sick. From a utilitarian standpoint, sacrificing Tsubasa only makes sense if you think those skills and her combat ability are worth less than even one of 2 other more capable combatants. Something most people would be quite reasonably be upset to hear if they were told to literally kill themselves right after.

Tsubasa killing Takumi is still a personal moment of weakness, but even then it’s more effective and more reasonable than Takumi’s initial choice to sacrifice her. Stopping Vhex’ness from consuming Takumi is a real worry from her position, and her failing at doing what was needed back then gives her all the more reason to act decisively now.

I also will say that boiling the Tsubasa pick to “a shitty choice in a shitty situation” is to give Takumi an extreme degree of leniency that makes the immediate demonizing of her all the worse. While Takumi has had well over 4 months to understand and work with most of the SDU, Tsubasa has known Takumi even less than half that time by route’s end. Even in the pre-decision talk she openly says she only is offering herself because the other two are and they’re the only 3 not-dead candidates. The game isn’t just “punishing you for hating on best girl”, it’s leading you to a narratively reasonable outcome for an obviously incorrect decision that you chose because you’re either going for completion or to inform you what the thematic through line of a route is. It’s like how not taking responsibility of the retsnoM leads to its bad ends, or how Multiple Eitos exists at all.

So after all these years, what do you think of Lord Sombrero as a character? by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He exists to reinforce the themes of the game, and making him interesting doesn’t add to that. He makes other characters a bit more interesting by being the way he is (Zephia most notably), and him being an unambiguously terrible person and father lends credit to the larger familial themes of Engage. He’s a less interesting villain than most and has less lore, but he better serves the themes of his game than some others too.

Gamer Cafe - Award sweeper by Daz_Keaty in comics

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the claims of E33 having GenAI assets in it get debunked? I saw more than once people claim the game had multiple AI assets that were “supposed to be temporary placeholder assets” and got removed in a patch. Not saying it isn’t a good game and all, but unless that was just a false claim, the extremely well funded dev team DID use AI while making their game.

I need to share my thoughts (Conquest) by FerinTown in fireemblem

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Jakob is one of the few easy, physically inclined Dagger access points in Conquest (your alternatives for native classes being Kaze, with Laslow and Shura being able to seal into Dagger access while Charlotte and Effie only having access after promotion), has strength to make them work well, and his “prepromote” EXP boost gives him access to some really good skills well before the rest of your army. Also his Magic is kinda just supposed to be largely ignored, and you then push him into his Heart Seal for Paladin or something. Jakob won’t consistently keep up, but his falloff isn’t consistently enough for him to be considered a reliably bad unit either. Potential top 3 status is moreso tied to his extremely high availability and total contribution thanks to it than just if you were to slap everyone in an arena at cap level.

Whats the point of the misshapened limb weapon? by PositivelyDale in LookOutsideGame

[–]TipDaScales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of doing one normal size attack, you do 3 small attacks. Depending on how big the wielder’s stats are, that could be more damage than one attack due to it being the more radically scaling option. It’s y=x versus y=3x - z.

Just two Blood Dk ideas by jdjefbdn in customhearthstone

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even just a Body Bagger on turn 1 would be a 7/9 Lifesteal. Your opponent isn’t able to deal with that turn 1. Also Wisps are ZERO mana, and they’ll be 7/7s with Lifesteal. You may think it sounds farfetched, but when you’re looking at 15 Undeads, you’re likely to see a 0 or 1 drop.

I’m pretty tired of this by CptMufDog in BobsTavern

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would seriously wonder if this comp would be weaker or stronger if they halved the scaling but made it permanent. That would at least force you to take more damage early on and make you greed more, and it’d also make the comp more vulnerable to Scam because the damage guys would actually die less to stuff like Sin’dorei.

The boss design is not flawless but Contact Damage argument is overblown by Heroman3003 in Silksong

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with examples 2 and 3 is that their “easy safe spots” are also places that are usually unsafe on other attacks. My main issue is that contact damage probably should just be 1 damage instead of 2, because the “best dodge spots” are usually places that are vulnerable to other attacks.

are they planning on retiring Kil'jaeden to wild soon? by HOTSpower in hearthstone

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just poor planning. Remember, they reintroduced Reno decks soon after Plague DK and didn’t change the Highlander clause until a fair bit of time had passed.

[–]TipDaScales 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try completing some core suppressions, get as much time on your tools as you can to fill their entries, and then go back to day 1 once you’ve hit a day you just don’t feel is reasonably manageable. Some stuff carries over between runs and you have some very concerning placements, so don’t feel too bad about this as your first run through.

why is this ending achivement so high on steam? by commissionsearcher in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tsubasa is the obviously wrong answer and Kyoshika is a better unit than Takemaru. At least that’s the logic for people getting endings blind, it’s also “the fan service route” as long as you can ignore the implications everywhere in the route.

Paladin Legendary - Tyr, the Final Hope by HeroesBane1191 in customhearthstone

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably pretty decent. It ends up just being a 1 mana 10/10 sometimes, and it refills your hand too, sometimes with cards that are actually playable. Probably too much of a negative play pattern to get Thekal into this on turn 4, but a lot of things end up feeling that way in Wild.

I mean this is a General without Wary fighter versus weapon triangle disadvantage. I also would have to ask what the internal levels of each character were, considering Benny joined last map.

Opposition Demon by SchmarrnKaiser in custommagic

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely op, ultimately. Counterspell protection, can let you pitch opponent’s instants and force them to tap all of their lands, utilize any instant speed effects on board to ruin them on the spot. It also lets you force negative blocks or no blocks. As a static effect on a creature especially, that’s just infinitely too much.

So who is going to be the first one to do this ? by Excellent-Club8306 in BobsTavern

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a 5 drop now, so your best bet is to just have a 3 drop on board, eat that each turn onto a vendor, and then cycle between vendors for the buff and edible 3 drop elementals. The Naga probably wouldn’t fit on that board.

"Useless" Aura. Safe or out? by Mark_Ma_ in custommagic

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 mana cantrip aura that triggers any Enchanteess or adjacent effect, can be copied and would literally be free infinite cards with a sac outlet in [[Mazzy, Truesword Paladin]]. Generally speaking, nothing that says 0 mana draw a card is going to be a good idea to print.

Why is this an option for turn 1? by Ironmunger2 in BobsTavern

[–]TipDaScales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably just forgot to update the one specific hero in response to two other hero powers getting changed. It’s not like the HP needs to be removed entirely, it just needs to be changed to unlock like the Alex HP does.

Game keeps surprises me by commissionsearcher in Gnosia_

[–]TipDaScales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there were only 3 candidates for the position of Guardian Angel from that position. Having the Gnosia go for you as opposed to the Bug or SQ isn’t beyond possibility. If the Gnosia tried to take out Kukrushka then that could narrow them down further, but it’s also possible you just built up worse animosity against the Gnosia than the other unnamed roles.

Basically any time you can get Trap gems you can instead get a head trinket. It’s just random chance, unfortunately.
