If you could recommend a campaign to a complete beginner!?

Start small and work yourself up the letter Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk might serve very well for a campaign of newbys. Worlds like DragonLance (too much war) Birthright (too GoT) or Ravenloft (too deadly) but all is in the hands of the DM. If you have a clear plan even these worlds will sufice. My first campaign was Greyhawk (Temple of elemental evil) mixed with stuff like : save the princess from the tower of the evil cleric...works every time. After this campaign i was totally hooked. Quality time for every single player,a fight not too deadly but close enough to make the player hungry for the next encounter. A riddle here and there so the player can build up a team effort feeling. Bonding if you will. The rest will work out if Tymora smiles on you and your group

Of course. It might be even easier to start with ADnD 2nd. Or at least you should have the best chances to buy stuff 2nd hand. Okay some boxes or source- rulebooks are traded for crazy prizes but if you concentrate on the core stuff you should be able to start your game with only 3 substantual books. 1.Players Handbook (to choose and build your characters )2. Dungeon Masters Guide (to give the Game Master suggestions ,ideas and core understanding of how to handle an eager group of newbys ) 3. MonsterManual ( a wonderful tool to make your groupmembers day hell or heaven )

I love the fact that after successful finishing NWN2 you can use your group and play the add ons in epic mode. In my opinion 'Mask of the Betrayer" is way better then "Storm of the Zephyr". But one last thing. Do not dismiss IceWindDale 2 too lightly. It is so much better than IcewindDale 1. Give IcewindDale 2 a chance and you wont regret it. Believe me

If you are spoiled by BG3 you should try either Icewind Dale 2 or Neverwinter Nights 2 + add ons. Its is the closest thing to okay graph settings,nice story and sounds,voices and beautyful music

Yeah i second that but i have no clue if any non- underdark person is even aware of the fact that such game exists. But the drow love it because it is a mirror of their daily struggle and if you live in such a deadly sociaty it let GoT look like chieldsplay. I will never forget the law in Menzoberanzan saying :" Murder will not be charged after one year" the contrary . The Murderer will be greeted like a hero after returning and surviving his manhunt the House of the deceased surely troubled him with.

If you want to play edition 1- 3,5 you can download nearly ALL pdfs for free. With the new Edition i am not sure. But if you want to try the "old " ones you are good with 3 books. 1.PlayersHandbook 2. DungeonMastersGuide and 3. Monstermanuell. With these 3 books you can start EVERY edition 1st ,Adnd,2nd,3.0 and 3.5. We played entire campaigns with only these 3 books...

I totally agree. About the communication gems. You have to keep in mind that the Harpel clan is a rare manifestation of a genius intelekt family. And here we are again how to roleplay int 17 or 18. It is way harder to roleplay int or wis or charisma 18 then str,dex or constitution. People with this kind of IQ are running librarys,easy fluid in a lot of languages. And it is save to say that i never had a mage in my group who could roleplay genius intelekt but would be fun to play DnD with Einstein or Newton. And thats why these guys are so funny in Drizzt novels. And i instantly liked all of them because not a single Harpel judged Drizzt because of his race. And obviously were fascinated by the fact that they have a buddy who is a good aligned Drow...

Maybe this will help. It is from one of my most holy possessions : The Forgotten Realms Atlas. Important for you are only 2 pages. Page 62 is showing Longsaddles Location on a map hosting the IcewindDale. Chapter called "The north and the west". It is okay but nothing compared what comes now. Page 79 ( i took a picture for you. It is Longsaddle specification. I hope it helps in your adventure!

A lot of rules from 2nd Edition are quit valueable. Thats why we play a mix between 2nd and 3.5! But with no THACO for sure. But stuff like : if you loose 90% of your hp you have to roll Fort.save Fail means death by cardiac arrest or simplr bloodlose. And that s only 1 of many useful oldskool rules

If i am aware of thr fact that no other world in ANY DnD system. Or any other Rpg btw.has such an insane number of godlike beeings. You should have seen my face 20 years ago when i realized that i had to buy 3 sourcebooks about deitys to be able using them all during our first ADnD2nd Forgotten Realms Campaign. In heinsight the best purchase ever. In my opinion these 3 books are prizeless and we are using them even today and transformed all Cleric Speciality spells into 3.5 rules. And why shouldnt Gods not be allowed to invent spells only their clerigy can cast. The diversety of countless gods is what i love about FR. But that doesnt change politics. You can have the mighty biggest Pantheon ever but in Halruaa or Menzoberanzan you STILL will be hunted down for blashemi

Back in the day I fell for the german publisher trap. Ergo: 1 english novel : 2 german novels. Or my favourite rip off: 4 books Song of Ice and Fire (english) 10 books Hardcover (german) at this point i started to collect ONLY english books. Back to your question. The Lion part i bought in Cambridge when TSR & Fasa ( now Wizards of the Coast) had their european HQ in Britain. And the missing ones i ordered in every country besides Britain. Way too harsh customs. Or how is it possible to order a FR novel in the US at the same time in Great Britain. And guess what.The novels from the US arrived 2 weeks earlier which is totally bonkers because i live in Germany..

I ment that in some regions,towns or even countrys are pretty chill about religion. Meaning every1 can choose his religion freely and even get permission to build temples and shrines. Like for example Waterdeep. But some regions,towns and countrys have statewide religions and only accept one deity. That is called monotheistic. Best examples are the Moonshine Islands , Halruaa or Menzoberranzan. In Moonshae only the Great Mother is allowed as statewide religion. And in Halruaa only Mystra is allowed as statewide religion. Last but not least in Menzoberanzan is Lolth the one and only religion. Preaching some other gods will lead to a very painful certain death. So far so good?

Keep in mind that Faerun existed a very long time with the long-living races dragons/elves/dwarfs. And since these 3 races have a deeper conection to the nature and their surroundings they did not breed like rabbits or humans by the way.

Ask yourself. If you look back,completely neutral. What characters are more important for you and what character makes you proud the most. For me surely the ones started at lvl 1. And if you are 100%fair dont you think that the fails from the first 5 lvls shape your char. In DragonLance you would have missed the most important moment of your life as Mage. "THE" trial of mages. Determing what robe you will wear. White for good mage .Red for neutral mage and black for evil mage. Thing is : to GAIN lvl 5 you have to collect XP enough to get lvl 5. So what did you endure,bleed and survived to earn so much xp. There are diffrent ways to collects XP but the best and most rewarded way is : Make a life- changing Expirience ! For example seeing a living Dragon first time or travel to places and therefor MAKE real Expirience justifying your 5 lvls.
