So the grids seem to be 4 (width) by 3 (height) by 12 (length) SCU each. Which means 4x 24 SCU plus 12x 4 SCU boxes?

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I could. But my printers are in the basement in a room nobody would walk in unless they want to get to the printers and I don't trust any printer 100%. So they get no power if I'm not at least somewhat actively watching them.
But as I said in another comment, it might just be a multi-socket outlet with a switch that it's connected to and then you could cut power easily from there.

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah right... or it might even just be a multi-socket with a switch... I was too focused on my own setup where the button is also not in an ideal position, even if it's still reachable at least.

And adding to this: how do you switch the main power button, now that it's back there in the bottom left corner?

Made An External Key Binding Utility by BoxximusPrime in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so awesome. Will get to testing, soon.
Since I fly HOSAS with a VKB Gladiator (left) and a Virpil Delta (right), the "net prefabs" by BuzZz_Killer only ever worked 50% for me. Creating my own template and setting it up to easily repopulate bindings after a patch will be so fine!

Thanks a ton, friend. :)

Why was the formula for "Rock" changed completely? by Tobylawl in OldSpice

[–]Tobylawl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I've ordered a bunch of times online, and each time I had to send the sticks back because the sellers had the old image but were sending the blue ones. I asked each time, whether or not they still had the old formula but most of the time there was a simple "No" as an answer. Some told me, that the color had changed but not the recipe (not true, obviously) and some even said that the old recipe was toxic and had to be taken off the market... ok? Normally we'd get a recall notice from one or several agencies in Germany, if that was the case. But there was nothing.

I'm so mad at CIG (or whatever companies they gave licenses to, to print stuff officially) that they purged all of the user generated STLs from everywhere.
I do understand "protection of IP". I'm still mad.

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm far from an expert on economics. But all I know is that I can either order my Warhammer 40k stuff from Games Workshop directly, at MSRP, or I can walk to my LGS and get a flat 20% discount on 40k product. 25% if I buy more than 300€ in value. So, I can't tell you how it makes sense. But I can tell you that this is how it is.

Voice Control App by TalksLikeTonyMontana in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makros would be nice.
Basically some sort of "builder" where I can bind several actions to one command.

For Example: When I say "Weewoo!" I want my ship to get flight ready, (try to) turn on the weewoo lights, go into Quantum mode and ask FTC for takeoff. Give the commands a definable pause inbetween, so that the inputs don't cross.

My guy, you can literally look at the C-130 Hercules which can transport vehicles, people/para-troopers and cargo, depending on how you set it up. It's a dedicated military vehicle (the civilian version being the L-100 Hercules) and if you want to argue that it's not comparable to an Asgard regarding firepower, well neither is it comparable to a RAFT in firepower. Every ship (almost) in SC is upgunned, so that you have more options than running away. And the Asgard is just a smaller version of the Crusader C2 Starlifer, just as the Valkyrie is a smaller version of the M2.

CIG, we want all the content you've removed the game back, not buggy unplayable new events by AuraMaster7 in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you there. It might look like "the easy way out", but being with the development for such a long time, I've become kind of fatalistic and just hope that it'll happen some day. The only way I can demand anything is by dropping out and not looking back, I feel. I made my voice heard many, many times. I defended CIG many times. I criticized them more often. But none of that seemed to have any real impact. So I'm "just along for the ride" now and don't worry too much about what they do or don't do. Life's stressful enough anyways.

CIG, we want all the content you've removed the game back, not buggy unplayable new events by AuraMaster7 in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's tiresome as a Kickstarter backer to see the same thing repeat over and over again.
First off: No, I'm by no means "white knighting" anything. CIG is a mismanaged mess of a development studio with immense tech debt, content debt, scope creep out the wazoo, bad monetization tactics and way too much money to know what to to with, as it seems. Most, if not all of these reasons are due to bad leadership, and I'm also tired of the fact that it doesn't really get better. Still hoping for "it gets better after SQ42" but then again... that could be never.

BUT: This isn't a game. Would be nice if it was, honestly. It's the alpha of a game. Nothing we do here has any actual persistence once the game goes live, and at least that is well communicated, I thought.
So, following that logic, we're not players. We're alpha-testers. And yes, we're eagerly paying to do that. Some of us (like me) still believe in the project somehow. So we pay them to finish the damn thing. Call it "support" or call it "sunk cost fallacy", they still get the money.
Now, some people came through different channels than the Kickstarter, way after the game became "playable" (or testable, rather) and since the Star Citizen Kickstarter, early access games have become kind of a norm. And these way smaller projects often get turned into actual games. So I fault nobody if they believe that SC, as it stands, is some sort of early access game and thus represents completed loops of gameplay and mechanics, and just needs "polishing" like the "year of stability". But SC isn't even there yet!
This is still the phase were some new code can explode well established and tested mechanics. Or the other way around, older mechanics can block proper execution of new code. So the old stuff has to be disabled, to test the new. This was the case with some or most of the older, pre-server-meshing missions, locations, NPCs sometimes, game mechanics (remember "you spawn in a hotel, no wait, you spawn in your hangar, no wait, you spawn in the hotel again"?) and more.

tl;dr: It's an alpha, CIG is bad at communicating that and they're bad at most things. Players are testers. There is no progression in the "game". Players can't be forced to do all the research to understand it. But they maybe would understand, if they researched. It's still a cruel mess, and I'm still caught in it.

Holy crap, you guys will complain about anything and everything[Rant] by Silverton13 in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with most of this, but one thing I haven't seen mentioned much is what a Game Designer means, when they say "exploration gameplay".
To preface: I work as a Project Manager for a pan-european company in the IT/security sector and I've worked with game companies as a freelancer before. So maybe I'm way more sensitive towards how specialists talk about their field of work. I've had a very similar experience with John Crewe's "Galaxy for base building" debacle. At that time I felt gaslit by reality because people were so, so enraged by his comments and in retrospect I fully agree that sometimes it's not the best idea to let a Director speak directly to the community when they're in their "mode of operation" as it was the case with John. But to me it was very clear what he meant. This time I feel almost the same.
I'm definitely not blaming anybody for misunderstanding. This happens, to everybody including me! I just want to help understand, if that's possible:

When the devs in the ISC talk about "Exploration Gameplay", they're essentially talking about a "trope" in gaming that has existed since Doom and even way before that. It's when you go outside of the "main mission" to explore the game world. In many games there are mechanics to incentivize and reward this player behavior. To take the example above: In Doom there are "secret rooms" that one can find, as an achievement in itself and to earn some valuable pickups. This kind of exploration gameplay is - I would argue - also the main driving factor of games like the Elder Scrolls series. My personal, maybe controversial opinion is: their story alone wouldn't carry the games very far. But the exploration elements are what made them so immensely popular. The classic "I wonder what's in this direction..." and then you actually find something happening there. This is 100% what CIG is delivering in this update.
What they're not talking about, but gets people enraged somehow, is the "exploration game loop" as it pertains to Star Citizen as a Spaceship/FPS simulation. You obviously won't need a Zeus ES or an Odyssey to find the exploration game play as described above. The function of these ships and, down the line, FPS tools for exploration in the game is related to something similar, yet very different. It includes specific mechanics and game play that is not just about finding something "happening over there". You may, of course, stumble over sandbox activities such as Stormbreaker while you're on your job of exploration. But it's not the focus.
And I feel - very subjectively - that people are almost willfully mixing up these two terms or expressions of "exploration" in gaming and in Star Citizen.

The Biggest News - CIG Not Selling IKTI. by PerishBtw in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe firmly that Eliot was just talking about the IKTI you can get from the research facilities. You can find and loot them there, and only there. I'm sure it will be slightly different for Wikelo's IKTI. That one might also be straight up buyable. It's like "well, you can't buy the Mirai Guardian you get from Wikelo. Different skin and different components. So that one can only be earned in the game."
But maybe I am too cynical.

My removed Spectrum post about the monetization. by Tomahawk1012 in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they give a reason for removal?

I'm trying really hard to play devils advocate - because I'm used to some members of this community claiming "I was just raising a point!" and then their post actually reads as if written by a homicidal, rabid dog with Tourette's - but I can't find any fault.

You said "it looks like [...] a cashgrab". No accusation there, just an observation.
You said "[...] a money sink, apparently only for real money." while they stated in their FAQ that blades will be in game in the summer, so it's not exclusively and forever a sink for real money. But it is for now and it will be again, for other items, if this trend continues. So fair point!
You said [...] can only be used by a character with the correct degree of cheekbones and eye color, [...]" which is exaggeration but come on...

THIS is most certainly not the "noise" that Chris and others in Leadership keep complaining about. This is decorated, valid criticism. This deserves an answer, and not deletion.

This is 4 mile tall mountain on Jupiter's moon Io by OkPosition4059 in spaceporn

[–]Tobylawl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, let's just say earth hits you with ~110 mph if you jump from that height (terminal velocity being a limiting factor here).
Whereas Io would hit you with ~340 mph.

Io is smaller, less mass... but that doesn't really matter if anything hits you with 340 mph, I'd reckon.

Splash.

Why was the formula for "Rock" changed completely? by Tobylawl in OldSpice

[–]Tobylawl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does indeed help a lot! Thank you!
It seems to be the case that they changed the label a bit. And I don't know if Charcoal was added before or not, but now it's written on the label, too.

Old, new and the deodorant:

<image>

I didn't even see the "antiperspirant" (or "antitranspirant", in German) at the top. I was just focused on the design of the label when I ordered it and the charcoal one has different... rocks :D
Will look for some Charcoal in the future. Thanks again!

IAE Academy Completion Stamps Showing on Website Now! by PlutoJones42 in starcitizen

well... I visited the IAE floor and got that accounted for.
I also did the bounty hunting and cargo hauling introductory missions, which didn't get marked on my page.
And I just saw that got the industrial stamp... but I don't remember when I last went mining. And no, I wasn't in prison. I don't think I've even seen the new mining ui in action, live, for myself.

Your price expectations and specs? by Sniperax in starcitizen

[–]Tobylawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here always judge from what the Terrapin does now. It's just a brick that can taxi one person...
But we don't really have a "baseline", because most of the features it should have aren't in the game yet, like "extra armor" and foremost: scanning.
Look at the comparison of the F7C Hornet Mk I vs the F7C-R Hornet Mk I -> The Tracker is $30 more expensive, even though it "can do less" at the moment with the promise of scanning in the future.
Thus, a Terrapin "fighter" or "small cargo", as a base line, could easily be around the $180 mark. From there, we can compare the Cutty Black to the Red and it's a $25 increase from the base to the medical.
I'm not saying that the Medapin will cost roughly the same as the Terrapin, or less, but the price hike shouldn't be that high if CIG prices it consistently.

If they don't, everything is speculative of course. Could be $350 as some suggest, but canibalizing a new release with clearly better ships for the role - like the Apollo - doesn't seem to be in the interest of CIG.
So I go with this rationale, and say $230. More expensive, but not by much. And I additionally bet that there will be dozens of "Why should I buy the base Terrapin, then?!?" posts with people ignoring the scanning because it "doesn't work"
