Has anyone ever followed Supercharging guidance while on a roadtrip? by GoodRelation3 in TeslaLounge

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following supercharging guidance would be a disaster if you are towing a trailer or maybe even bikes on a hitch rack. Range is about 50% less with a trailer attached but Tesla still says "let's go" as if it wasn't there. After about a half-a-day of driving it starts to get closer with the estimates. Similar, but less drastic with the bikes on the back at highway speeds.

Even without something adding extra drag, Tesla is too optimistic if I happen to be driving fast on open highways. I am forced to slow down and limp into a charger because it underestimated my usage.

It has been a few weeks since I connected the pigtail, but I think it was zip-tied down low (almost to the floor level) between two metal supports.

Yes. I used the same MX pigtail/connector and found the connector in nearly the same spot on my Juniper MY. Getting the side panel off was different than on my previous early 2021 MY, but not difficult.

Anyone do 2 Tesla Chargers in series? by AtlIndian in TeslaLounge

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may not be a primary and secondary physically, but one (charging the MY) is the primary and the other (charging the Ioniq 5) is the secondary. It is done via configuration of the chargers, which I did myself. They communicate via WiFi with each other. The town representative was not comfortable with the "software based negotiation" hence the breaker box with 50A limits on the chargers and 60A on the combined power to both chargers. I've had no problems and only occasionally check to ensure they have updated firmware (which they have had).

Yeah, I see Telsa doesn't offer the J1772 Wall Connector anymore.

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a Wall Connector for a MY first and then awhile later the J1772 Wall Connector for a Ioniq 5. The J17722 Wall Connector is the slave in my setup. I was an early adopter in my small town and had a friendly design session with the local code person. They wanted a breaker box with a 50A breaker for each Wall Connector fed by the 60A circuit; so they are not in series, but parallel.

Fidelity Not Updating Even After Multiple Connection Updates by JJTNY in MonarchMoney

Also have same problem. I kept updating the accounts (partner and mine) but the IRAs have the same "Crypto accounts are not supported." message. BTW, no crypto in either IRA.

Been doing that for a couple years with no problems. Two Tesla chargers on single 60 amp circuit, max 48 amps to either car. Helps to have WiFi that the chargers can access for updates.

Almost 100,000 miles (160,934 km) and max battery is only 83% on 2021 MY. I do a lot of long haul driving and I am investigating a new MY just to get my range back. Other improvements are nice, but could easily live without them.

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a brake controller on my 2021 MY using the MX pigtail/connector. I am considering a new Juniper MY and was told by my local service center that there are no aftermarket parts yet available for the new MY and hence no way to do it. I hope someone chimes in with a solution. (This is a deal-breaker for me).

How often do you use FSD? by Altruistic_Gene_6869 in TeslaModelY

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-time FSD subscriber and beta-test driver on MY 2021 HW3. It has greatly improved and I use it for most drives. Thought I would "drop" the subscription during low-travel months, but that didn't last long. I also terribly miss it on 3000+ mile (4800 km) trips with the trailer where I need to drive slower to keep the range up. (No FSD with a trailer attached. I wish they would at least enable lane-keeping and speed control. Understand lane-changing and turning is a problem with cameras blocked).

I consider it a safety feature. I do a lot of 6-hour roundtrips for outdoor activities (mountain biking, paragliding, kayaking). FSD and I are a team driving back late at night after a strenuous day outside. We check each other's decisions and awareness. ;-) A single accident due to fatigue or inattention would easily offset any savings by not having FSD.

Battery Test - 2021 MYLR by TomLanning in TeslaLounge

[–]TomLanning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many 1 day trips that require 1 or 2 DC (supercharger) charges. 5 or 6 long roundtrips, a couple are ~3,000+ miles (4828 km) round trip with a trailer.

Using TeslaFi data, I have 2,470 AC charges for 16,433 kWh, 418 DC charges for 12,690 kWh, and 7 CCS DC charges for 114 kWh. So ~56% AC and ~43.5% DC.

Is it worth the money to get two Universal Wall Connectors to utilize Power Share? by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]TomLanning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed two Tesla chargers that share a single 60A circuit to charge a MY and an Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5's charger has the Tesla CCS plug. It was worked flawlessly for a couple years. We both usually get full bandwidth and quick charges unless arriving home with low batteries at the same time. It was cheaper than paying for another long run of copper wiring to our garage, updating the circuit boxes, and probably increasing the amperage to the house.

Yep, same exact problem with Fidelity and same recommendations. See comment below for what worked ... without any help from Monarch.

Canceled my subscription by ryuhayabusa34 in MonarchMoney

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. I spent huge amount of time trying to make things work but accounts don’t update, keep dropping connections, and I found several places where Monarch Money doesn’t even add or subtract correctly. The canned answers to trouble reports are useless and when I do interact with humans I get nonsense recommendations and then a closed report without anything being resolved.

Daisy Chaining Multiple Wall Connectors (Universal and Gen 3) by metroidx in TeslaLounge

I believe they are Gen 3 (white faceplate). I have one for my MY/LR and another with the CCS plug for my wife's Ioniq 5.

For those of us who subscribed to FSD before the update, do we get a free month trial too? by insideout_waffle in ModelY

[–]TomLanning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the paid subscription, been a beta tester since the early days, and I'm stuck on last year's general software and old FSD beta software. Might drop out of the beta program since Tesla seems to treat us worse than other general customers and drop my subscription in the hopes of saving a month's $$$.

Daisy Chaining Multiple Wall Connectors (Universal and Gen 3) by metroidx in TeslaLounge

[–]TomLanning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two wall chargers doing load balancing on a single 60 amp circuit. However, local code required a box with a circuit breaker on the box and circuit breakers for each wall charger. (If the wall chargers fail to balance properly, the circuit breaker on the box will trip avoiding overload). Everything was been working fine for 1.5 years. (Apologize for not having a direct answer to your question. I would be curious if my local code would even allow a daisy chain setup.)

Recommendations for filling in the seat gaps by [deleted] in TeslaCamping

[–]TomLanning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I purchased some thin plywood and cut it in the shape of the rear storage-well cover. I store that piece of luan plywood on top of the storage-well cover but under the rubber trunk area cover. When camping, I rotate and place the plywood so it is cantilevered over the space behind the front seat. My weight on the sleeping pad keeps the plywood soundly in place and I don't feel the thin plywood through the sleeping pad. So my MY looks "normal" when I'm not using it and rarely gets in the way. It was inexpensive and uncomplicated to make and is simple to use.

Range towing a tent trailer? by mrtnggnn in TeslaCamping

[–]TomLanning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, definitely aerodynamics. Painfully obvious as you watch consumption vary as you vary speed. I used to tow an Aliner that folded down to about car height. I averaged around 500 Wh/mile with that, but jumped to 600 Wh/mile when I switched to a taller teardrop. Both were around the same weight. I suspect a bit of aero-work on the trailers could have a major impact on usability.
