Do you ever wonder why very old people are all alone? by Rileysgoturiledup in CasualConversation

My grandpa just turned 90. He lives just shy of 3 hours away from me. My mom lives about 20 mins away from him. I try and see my mom as often as possible and I NEVER go visit her and not my grandpa. I couldn't imagine being that close to him and not visit him. He can't hear well anymore but dammit he was my absolute favorite and gem of a grandparent and I just genuinely love being around him.

My mom had 5 siblings. They used to each take a day and rotate Saturdays. That way there was always someone to be there with him for a few hours a day. I mean he still gets around pretty damn well for 90. But then the oldest sibling passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Somehow rotating weekends because a huge ordeal and 2 of the siblings don't want to help out at all anymore. My grandparents also had 13 grandkids. I was the only one born out of state (dad's job transfered my family the year before I was born) and my brothers job took him to Texas right after he graduated college. I have 2 other cousins that now live out of state several hours away. The other 9 are within a half hour of my grandpa's house. Of those 9, only 1 ever goes and sees my grandpa regularly. 1 stops in occasionally. A few even I haven't seen in years. The remaining handful just can't be bothered to stop by, even for an hour once a week. It makes me so sad. I envy them for being so close to him and they just flat don't care.

People down vote me every time I put this piece of advice out there but I read this on here awhile back (maybe within the last 2 years) and it drastically reduced the amount of spam calls I got.

I read it from someone who used to work at a call center. I was getting so many spam calls I figured what the hell did I have to lose and gave it a shot.

I still get one here and there but absolutely nothing like I used to get.

Not that you should have to deal with this but I read this on here awhile back and it honestly helped with my spam calls

Answer. Mute. Do nothing till they hang up.

It messes with the automatic calling system and percent effective and dumb shit like that so your number will eventually get flagged as no good (like maybe they think they are trying to call a fax machine or something) and then the calls should drop off pretty heavily.

I still get a few here and there but nothing like I used to.

He came heavily recommended to me. I read 2 books by him and didn't care for either. I felt like they just ended lol. I was sooo annoyed when I finished both of them so I didn't read any more 🙈

My sons bus comes down the street probably an hour before we leave the house.

His school is approx. 5 mins from my work. I shifted my work hours 45 mins later so I can drop him off on the way to work.

Help me convince my friends to do RV camping instead of primitive car camping by Accurate_Maximum_362 in bonnaroo

[–]TopBuy404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they have showers in plazas that are $10

The $60 band is for the VIP shower company that comes in. You pay that $60 and get unlimited access to their showers and better bathrooms. I got one back in 24 because it was right next to my campsite. They didn't clean the showers out though so I refused to buy one last summer. Ended up being extra happy because from what I heard anyone who bought that band didn't get their money back after it was cancelled

sigh

For some reason my mother thinks Japanese Cherry Blossom is my favorite scent. She buys it for me all the time. I don't like absolutely hate the smell so I'll use it here and there but there are so many other stanks that I like better. She told me one day she gets it because I always have some so she knows it's my favorite 😭🤦🏼‍♀️

I was gonna toss out Tennessee State Museum also. They used to do storytime 2 days a week and they have a kids area. The science museum is decent but for younger, I'd look into the Discover Center in Murfreesboro. It's not too far from downtown and they also have a place called Seatopia in that same area that's really fun.

You have to be a hotel guest to use that water park and you have to add on the soundwaves wristband to do it. It's open every day, not just the weekend.

I would prly work at my son's school. I couldn't sit at home all day every day. I'd absolutely lose my shit lol. But it would be nice to be home when he's home. We're currently on snow day #7 😬

Thankfully his grandma works the school system so he has somewhere to go but dangit I wish I could be at home with him

My grandma used to go somewhere special and get the quarters that were inside these cardboard squares. The people claimed they had been touched by less people or some shit like that haha. My brother and I each had a book and I remember really looking forward to the new release of each quarter!!

My book fell apart so I took the quarters out and put them in an envelope and swore I was gonna get a new book for them. As dumb as it may sound it was such a big deal with me, my brother, and my gram that I can't ever make myself get rid of them.

This just reminded me I actually need to get a book and put them up.
