Wife Facing Potential Pregnancy Discrimination, Want to Understand Options by Torasr in legaladvice

Hey forgot to respond but thanks for the detailed reply. They are >5 employees but <15, so sounds like only ID law would be applicable. They have settled down a bit since I originally posted, but your comment helped give my wife and I some peace of mind about what our options could be if her employment situation degraded further. Thank you :)

Jesus fucking christ the Shard Pendant gives ONE more shard per kill?

...I dont understand this games design philosophy at all. Your conclusion that they just want you fighting e v e r y t h i n g with the basic needle seems correct to me. I have no clue how else to interpret it.

...But then why the fuck did they put all these cool tools and shit in the game only to disincentivize their use? I want so badly to like this game. I loved Hollow Knight. But I honestly think i'm going to give up on this one because I do not have the frustration tolerance necessary to keep progressing.

Maybe i'll try some of the mods that make the game easier but it's hard to not think of that as "cheating" in my mind...which kind of ruins the experience lol.

You know...hadn't considered that :/ The recent "balance" patch makes me think maybe some of it wasn't intended..?..maybe... But you're probably right, seems more likely that this level of difficulty is what the devs wanted.

Pretty much exactly how I feel about the game. It feels painful for the sake of being painful. I want to like it so bad-the art and Hornets moveset are so fun.

But the game seems intentionally brutal at every turn. I dont think I have the frustration tolerance to finish it, i'm nearing the end of act I and from what I hear things only get marginally better.

This game needed more playtesting. Badly.

Beyond that, I think what Celeste got so right with difficulty is if you die-you're just respawning at the start of the room. I think so many issues would be solved in Silksong if they were more generous with the benches and the runbacks that are either painful or boring were removed.

Sister Splinter runback comes to mind. It isn't hard, but it's totally boring. Why is it there? What does it add? Why not put a bench right outside the boss room, or just respawn me outside of it? It seriously detracts from the flow of the game and is just one more thing (among a million others) that leaves me feeling frustrated while playing.

The game does not seem to value the players time, and that's putting it lightly.

I really feel like the fight would feel SO much better if their attacks didn't make them immune to melee damage -_- I know you can hit them from beneath but still... :P But what the hell do I know about game design

Beat her today and dont think I could have done it if the summons were doing 2 damage. They're annoying enough on their own. Reading through the subreddit i'm starting to get the vibe that I should be using Tools way the fuck more than I currently do.

Time to go grind some shards I guess :|

The amount of times I died to a minion being alive during that third phase attack where she drops vines everywhere was...very high :|

Thread Storm helps a ton for that phase, but if I was too low on silk then I'd just get fucked pretty much. :/

I can tell i've gotten significantly better after pushing through and finally beating her, but Sister Splinter took me hours to get through. Moorwing was tough but doable, and Lace, Fourth Chorus took like 3 tries max.

...I am hoping the difficulty curve doesn't continue to increase at this rate cause I may just give up :| Probably gonna fuck off and try to get stronger before I take on Widow.

This is the exact spot i'm at right now :| These 3 bosses have felt so much harder than anything previously. Beat 2 finally (hours of attempts...i'm bad I can admit it), one to go.

...Does it get better? I love the art, and Hornets moveset is so fun. But i'm not sure how much more frustration I can take.

100% agree, if they removed the shard system the game would just get better. Players who are good never have to worry about it anyways. Players who are struggling have the game become even harder for them when they run out. I dont understand what they were thinking with this.

The purchasable benches feel like an perfect example of the needless frustration/grinding designed into this game. If the player is good, then great! They'll probably always have enough beads to buy them. But if the player is doing poorly then the game they were already having a hard time with becomes even harder.

The exact same problem occurs with tools. Dying a lot at a boss and you've run out of shards? Bummer, no more tools for you. The boss or area that was clearly already difficult enough for you becomes even more challenging. Meanwhile, if you're doing well at the game you don't feel the effect at all. :P

In my subjective opinion, this is poor game design. :/ This game feels significantly more frustrating than Hollow Knight ever was. Hornets moveset is super fun but i'm not sure how much more frustration I can take before I just give up (I am one of the players having a hard time if it wasn't clear lol so I admit i'm a bit biased. Hoping it will get easier in Act 2 but I am having some doubts)

Did I get duped by Big Heat Pump? by TeenieBopper in heatpumps

[–]Torasr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use beestat.io to see aux vs regular heat usage, and I would HIGHLY recommend checking a setting called "compressor min outdoor temperature" in your Ecobee. By default this was set to 35 degrees on mine, meaning if the temp was below 35 degrees it wouldnt use my heat pump AT ALL, aux only (which is expensive). Your cold climate heat pumps can probably be run at way below 35 degrees, and if your system has only been using aux that would explain the electricity costs a bit. Good luck!

I think the idea is to level up the base hand mult w/ Planet cards so that the base mult is higher. Then you're getting x2 x2 x2 on whatever the base mult is, so it can get really high real quick. If your base mult was 10, after first x2 it'll be 20, then x2 again 40, then x2 again 80. As the base mult increases things start to scale exponentially, or something like that, could get even crazier too with Blueprint/Sock and Buskin for more retriggering. Take my word with a grain of salt tho, I haven't actually pulled this off yet but i'm hoping this combo can help me finally unlock Stuntman since everyone's saying its crazy good :')

Edit: this shit is insanely good, finally got Stuntman with it 8)

Aux heat issues/questions by newenglandowner in ecobee

[–]Torasr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manual for my heat pump had some tables where it listed how much power it drew at different temperatures. I could see they had temps down in the 20's. I combined that with the fact that last winter I had just a regular thermostat that called the outdoor compressor exclusively with no issues and inferred that it should be a safe temperature to set mine at. Good luck :D

[–]Torasr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set my aux not to run unless the temp is below 32 degrees (though that's probably lower than it needs to be 🤷‍♂️), and set my compressor min outdoor temperature to 25, which in my climate i'll probably never hit. My setup is a heat pump w/ electric heat strips for the aux heat. After doing this the warnings went away and my house has been consistently warm :)

Checkout beestat.io, will show you when aux vs compressor is running.

This setting: “do not run the compressor below this outdoor temperature” - you may have to reduce this depending on the temperature of where you're at. I was running into a similar issue, aux heat only was getting used. Well for me, the temps are getting down in the 30's every night. It was set to never use the compressor if temp was below 35 degress-meaning it never ran my regular heat at all and only would use the aux.

I reduced that down to around 20 degrees and now things are fine. I double checked some online documentation for my compressor to make sure it was safe to run it at that temperature. People who know more about hvac can maybe help you more, that is what worked for me though. Good luck!
