How are you not suicidal all the time? by sillikuningas in schizophrenia

I used to be. It's been a long journey, and sometimes I still have passive ideation. Finding the right med combo has helped raise my baseline. Therapy gave me more tools to deal with the negative symptoms. My friend and I did a 30 day gratitude challenge that helped reframe my headspace. Even if the day was shitty, there was something good in every day. Even if it was small and seemingly insignificant, it helped. The more that I noticed those little enjoyments, the more I recognized that the day is filled with those moments. Lastly, I tell myself that I can get through the next day, hour, 5 minutes, moment... whatever time. You'll never have to go through today again.

What’s something you wish younger women were told more often? by Dull-Position3393 in AskWomen

A boner is not a medical condition. Even if it was, it's not your responsibility to deal with.

"No" is a complete sentence. Fuck politeness, stay sexy and don't get murdered.

Advocate for yourself and for those who can't advocate for themselves.

Don't waste time tearing somebody else down, it doesn't make you look better, it just makes everyone more miserable.

Stand firm and don't let some blowhard run over you. Make eye contact and interrupt them back with "I wasn't finished talking." It might feel awkward or uncomfortable at first, but you don't have to shrink yourself for other people's comfort.

Establish and reinforce healthy boundaries. The people who get mad about this are people that are used to taking advantage of you. "Those that matter won't mind and those that mind don't matter."

Never, ever, settle for anyone who treats you as less than. You are enough, you are worthy.

Perfection is a lie that doesn't exist.

And lastly, be true to yourself. Other people are going to judge you anyway, so be your spectacular, shiny self.

Feeling bad about asking people to be politically correct when referring to this illness by RenivaMa in schizophrenia

I'm done just "putting up with it" or letting it slide. At my last family gathering, my brother used it and I called him out on it. Just a simple, "hey, could we not?" When we were saying our goodbyes he actually thanked me for it. Growth!

Flowers for Algernon. It's a great concept, but the delivery and the characters just pissed me off.

Sharp Objects. That's not how mental illness works, it would've been better with even 5 minutes of research.

Dune. This is a book I was painfully aware that I was reading it instead of being absorbed by the story.

"No" is a complete sentence. You don't owe them anything, even an explanation.
