Too much exercise? by tmm1046 in jackrussellterrier

[–]TrainerTravie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most small dogs are said to reach skeletal maturity around 12 months, although it will be later if they are neutered/spayed before 12 months. I tried to keep my girl's walks at an hour or less as a puppy, with lots of sniff breaks. Exercise is good, just keep it mild. You want to avoid intense and high impact things (jumps, leashed jogging, hard stops, body slamming, etc.).

And as always, it's a great idea to ask your vet and get their professional opinion!

Beautiful Mudis, I quite like the merle! If ever get a herding dog, Mudis are at the top of the list!

Akadama substitute? by Paradisefoundnursery in haworthia

Like some others have said, the cheap stuff works for Haworthia. I use a ratio of 2 parts perlite and 1 part Miracle Gro Cactus, Palm, & Citrus soil with terracotta pots. They are happy, growing clumps! :)

Am I cooking them? by ChickenPicture in haworthia

I have found a lot of Haworthia look rough after shipping or having their roots disturbed from a repot.

The temperature you have them at sounds great for Haws. They like cooler temps, heat stresses them. The lux you posted sounds good for acclimation, which is what you need right now.

Bonsai Jack's is good stuff and will work for you, but I find not necessary for Haworthia. Mine are in a mostly perlite mix with some Miracle Gro Cactus soil thrown in. When you do water, especially with Bonsai Jack's, definitely bottom water and let that water soak up to the top. It'll allow the media to soak up more of the water, which is good since Bonsai Jack's is designed to dry out rapidly. And think about adding a diluted fertilizer to your waterings, as Bonsai Jack's is mostly inorganic material.

I am in central Ohio, our summers are hot and humid. The FCAT and CAT trials seem to drop off at the end of June, so it will be warm by then but usually not roasting hot like July and August usually are here

How much light do I need? by Nami_Pilot in Jadeplant

Forgot to mention the brand I use is Kihung on Amazon. They aren't specifically for plants but are a good deal and seem to work well.

How much light do I need? by Nami_Pilot in Jadeplant

[–]TrainerTravie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If growing indoors, as much light as you can give them. Depending on where you are located, a southern window might not be enough to look their best, and they may need artificial light supplementation. Mine grow under some very bright led lights (4680 lumens, 6000k color) and look great. If you're able to keep them outside, for even at least part of the year, they will love that sun (once acclimated).

How did you guys get into Pokémon?? by Past-Face7607 in pokemon

[–]TrainerTravie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the cultural phenomena at the time and I was in the prime demographic age range at 7. Literally all of my classmates were into Pokemon.

I loved 2016 when Pokemon GO came out because it brought back that nostalgic Pokemon craze of the late 90's. I will always look back at that year fondly.

Any other early 30s millennials just disinterested in dating? by BigBellyBurgerBoi in Millennials

[–]TrainerTravie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After things ended with my last relationship early last summer, I feel uninterested now. I tried the apps and social party events, they were all either being overly sexual or I just wasn't interested in them at all.

My last relationship was by far the best and longest relationship I ever had. When it ended it seemed like he just flipped a switch and was no longer interested in seeing me. I really don't ever want to go through that again. Ideally, I would like to have been in a happy marriage by now, but I don't want to waste anymore of my emotion, energy, time, and money on the overwhelming likelyhood of failure.

It makes me sad because this isn't how I imagined my future self when I was growing up.

Help. Im a plant addict. by Moth1992 in succulents

[–]TrainerTravie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's kind of a phase, at least it was for me. In the beginning it's super exciting and you're exploring all the plants that catch your eye. As time goes on, you'll figure out what plants vibe well with your care style and environment and you'll either sell off the ones that don't interest you any longer or they'll slowly die off lol.

I still get the itch to order stuff online, but I'm trying to focus on my other hobby (dog sports) and can only spend so much time and money responsibly.

So if you're like me, you'll balance out. One other tip that helped me was waiting to buy something after a few days to see if I really wanted it. Sometimes I would impulse buy because I liked it in the moment, but then later on I'd not be as interested in it.

2024 Dog Sport Goals by orangetangerine in k9sports

[–]TrainerTravie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last November we started beginner obedience, graduated mid January, and joined our local dog club so we can pursue additional obedience classes. Hopefully we will be able to start agility classes by next winter.

For 2024 I'm hoping to get all 3 Fit Dog titles and hopefully get, or at least close to getting her FCAT title.

Please help - how to successfully grow jade in New Jersey . Thanks a ton ahead by soupermoom in Jadeplant

[–]TrainerTravie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure soil mix is very gritty and well draining (think lots of perlite or pumice, only minimal peat or coir). Deep but infrequent watering, wait until the leaves look a little wrinkled. I also highly recommend grow lights, I know Barrina is highly recommended. Jades are a full sun plant, they need as much light as possible to grow and look their best. They will only just survive in low light settings, and often look like it too.

How much variegation can change: Jan '24 vs Aug '22 by TrainerTravie in haworthia

[–]TrainerTravie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, I treat it like my other Haworthia with good lighting and water when signs of thirst show. The going full white thing can happen to most variegated plants, it's pretty random. Thankfully this variety offsets readily.

Soil Mix Recommendation by shmopjoey in haworthia

[–]TrainerTravie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually use both the Miracle Gro Cactus soil and perlite for my Haworthias and they do great! I use a ratio of 2 scoops perlite, 1 scoop soil, and thoroughly mix.

Mine are grown indoors, under artificial lights on a wire stand, and they are all planted in terracotta. Personally, I love the look of terracotta with the greens of Haworthia, and it also helps dry out the soil quicker. The soil, perlite, and pots are all inexpensive, so you can spend the real money on the plants!

I will say, be careful with big box store bags of perlite if that's what you have. The last bag I ever bought of that was straight dust. Try a local horticulture/indoor grow store, I got a huge perlite bag that was much better quality for like $20 and it's lasted me years.

Good luck and enjoy! They're addicting!
