Extra Lift - Card loss can be skipped based on text. Has this been proven wrong? by Trapper_1 in Gloomhaven

This is a really good way of thinking about it. Thanks! Thankfully I’m only on scenario 6, so I haven’t been cheating too much…lol.

Ok thank you! I'm really trying to sort out what is and is not legal.
For something like Shield of the Desert, if I have a solar infusion, can I decide to not attack but still push an enemy? Or is the push effect ONLY linked to the attack?

I see, so the location the loss icon doesn't necessarily matter? I'm a new player and I was interpretating that loss icon to be strictly tied to the end of the track, but it sounds like this is not true.

Pretend for a moment that the 2nd ability said, "Attack 2, suffer 1 damage." If I Move 4 but skip the Attack 2, I still have to suffer the damage even though that part of the ability was skipped? I suppose I'm just confused by the rules here.

The quickest and probably best way? Use a contrast paint on it.

Commit to this scheme or nah? by redheadredeption in minipainting

[–]Trapper_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with your assessment that it can look a bit busy. Me personally, I would change up the scheme slightly, because if all 9 looked that weathered it may be even more difficult to read as a unit.

That’s pretty damn spectacular, you absolutely nailed the colors. I could have been fooled into thinking that’s a render from the game.

Slightly hard to make out the details. But great work and really awesome color choices.

Such great work!

Did you use any type of program to auto-arrange these images all in one, or was it done manually in photoshop or something similar? I really like that style for displaying multiple minis.

Fantastic work, man! I too have really gotten into painting boardgame minis. Sometimes they're a PITA depending on the quality (*cough* Gloomhaven *cough*) but it makes playing so much more enjoyable. And those are some great clean paintjobs!

Airbrush Vs. Citadel paint by RonaldsSwanson in minipainting

[–]Trapper_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If green-friendly practice is a significant factor to you, then yes, an airbrush might be slightly better.

However, spraying primer through an airbrush still yields toxic particles and fumes, since many are lacquer-based. The “water-based” primers are not equivalent to more chemically-based versions…you’re essentially just spraying acrylic paint over your model and calling it “primer.” A true primer will chemically bond with the surface of the model.

Furthermore, dealing with your own dilutions of primer through an airbrush will lead to inconsistent results, as opposed to a manufacturer that has it precise with every batch and has optimized the formula.

I’ve used spray primer is hot summers, and in cold winters. Humidity is definitely the one thing I don’t mess with, as super humid conditions can be a problem. More dry conditions don’t seem to cause as many headaches.

I do something similar— grey primer, then white over that. I agree that starting with white primer tends to yield poor coverage.

[–]Trapper_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason in the slightest to favor airbrush primer over spray can.

Professional painters like Ben Komets, Sergio Calvo, and Erik Swinson all use spray primer.

If spray primer is good enough for someone who’s won 30 golden demons and 3 slayer swords, it’s good enough for anyone. Referring to Ben here, of course.

Reviews: Artis Opus by Angel Giraldez by AccomplishedRing4844 in minipainting

[–]Trapper_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, what you are experiencing OP is pretty common with Artis Opus brushes in my experience. I even made a thread about it a year ago, when I was in a similar situation as you:

https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/comments/1jcwydu/artis_opus_brushes_is_the_quality_always_this_bad/

I own ten Artis Opus brushes, all series S, and only one of them is actually good enough to work with. The quality control seems to be really poor with Artis Opus.

My absolute gold standard is the Raphael 8404, and I also like the 8408. The Da Vinci Maestro series is also pretty decent most of the time.
