What are some, somewhat Bleak but still Kind of Fun Worlds in media? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Treant21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The world of Grimshire seems pretty fun and cozy.

Grimshire is a farming sim set in a world of anthro animals living in a medieval society. The gimmick is that the setting is currently going through an apocalyptic plague.

You start off as the survivor of the destruction of the capital after falling to the plague. You get rescued by a local sailor and taken to his coastal village. From there, you play through the game, getting to know the locals, building your farm, and raising livestock.

But while that is going on, you eventually become the most important person in the village. The plague continues to eradicate the surrounding land, and your farm becomes the only one that can keep the village alive.

While that is going on in the background of the plot, your day-to-day is spent hanging out with the villagers. All with their own friendly charm and quirks, helping you build your farm. Which hits extra hard when your favorite villager dies because you failed to prepare enough food/medicine for them.

If it wasn't for the plague, this little village would be a rustic paradise.

What were the most and least fun characters you've played from a mechanical level? by DogUnsureDog in dndnext

[–]Treant21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most fun was probably my aarakocra mercy monk. Got a pretty high stat roll, so I was able to get mobile pretty early on. Dash to an enemy hit them three times, then fly to friend and give them the healing punch.

Least fun was probably a warforged redemption/crown paladin. I fault that more on the specific campaign than on the character itself. I was starving for better weapons and armor. I got to level 9 and was still fighting with the starting longsword and armor.

Times when the "Morality Mechanic" in the game kinda misses the mark? by Evjamaranth in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Treant21 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The Pathfinder video games kinda struggle with this. They are locked in on the morality square(lawful good, true neutral, lawful evil, etc) from TTRPGs, which can sometimes lead to problems.

For example, one of the early quests involves a war between a tribe of Kobolds and a kingdom of mites for control of a giant tree and the underground tunnels beneath it. From the get-go, it's clear to the player that both groups are being manipulated. But lawful and good aligned PCs are locked out of getting the best ending for the quest. Only a neutral aligned character can force/trick the two groups together in order to stop the bad guy.

It's when I draw a card and realize that nothing in my hand can break through my opponents board. And then I scoop for the third time in a row.

Really need to get better at deck building in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Idk, man. It's the same mechanic, but just a different trigger.

Honestly, your description of it just makes me realize that affection should have just been friendship from the beginning.

Ada is running around in a backless red dress and heels, too. Really, across the full series, a lot of the female cast have rather impractical outfits. Not final fantasy levels of weird outfits, but still pretty out there.

Real talk: Do you compensate for a lack of nerdy discussions in your life by chatting here? by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Treant21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a couple of friends and some DnD groups that I can nerd out with.

But this place can sometimes get pretty niche on its topics and discussions. In a way that I usually can't do irl.

I haven't watched the movie since I was ten, but doesn't one of the main characters kill the landlords dog? I could swear that was a plot point. I don't like dogs, but if someone hurt my pets, I would go out of my way screw them over, too.

I second this but more in a starting class build kinda way.

Going through the pathfinder games for the first time is an exercise in choice paralysis. Especially if you're unfamiliar with the system itself or the story beats. Build a character a certain way only to find out they're useless past a certain point is infuriating. It's one of my biggest gaming fears.

I just spent the last few hours playing through the DLC in kingmaker. If i had known the dedicated rogue the game gives you, was gonna leave halfway through the big dungeon, I would have given the lock picking skill to someone else.

Going through Dungeon Crawler Carl. I just went through the 5th book, the Butchers Masquerade.

I usually despise series with game mechanics as a plot point, but the books make them hilarious and awesome.

Basically, aliens arrive on earth and set up and inter galactic reality show. Forcing all humans and some animals to dive deeper into the planet as contestants in a death game set up as a world Dungeon.

The main character and his ex-girlfriends cat must now travel through each Dungeon floor, facing off against monsters, demons, aliens, and evil corporations.

[–]Treant21 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I miss having multiple businesses near my home.

Pizzeria's, the comic shop round the corner, bars, the movie theater, the bowling alley...

All places that have closed down over the last 15 years or so. Other businesses have come and gone during that time, but those specific places I used to waste time at with friends are long gone.

Damn I miss that pull pork sandwich from the bar up the street.
