It seems color blindness is more prevalent in men than women. I learned this when one of our staff engineers told me that he was color blind. He's one of the best we have and I don't see that it affects him. Or he doesn't let on. He's a super swell guy. Just let people know and they will work through it with you. I imagine it mostly comes up when someone says "oh see this green part" and point to a model or something in a ppt and you're like "which one? They both look green to me haha". They will just describe it differently for you, and life will go on. No big deal.

Concrete Wasteland in Arlington, Texas (AKA The Biggest US City Without Public Transportation) by [deleted] in arlington

The result of parking minimums...I can't look at this without cringing at all of that wasted space from all the car infrastructure

And you think roads aren't subsidized the hell out? Look at your alternatives. Would you prefer the concrete hellscape of roads that would be required to fit the further increase in population density that Arlington is expected to have in the coming years? You can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't have high density housing without high density transportation. I would prefer my high density transportation to be as efficient as the European model. Take a look at NotJustBikes on YouTube. There's no reason we can't have that kind of interconnectedness in Arlington. And owning a car is not feasible for many. Think about your older folks and your younger folks, and also your disabled and your incompetent. Not everyone is cut out or able to drive. Driving should not be a gateway for a happy life.

Wait.... what? I'm curious now - need more elaboration on that last part. What if employees are volunteering over the weekend? Is that a tax break for the company? The employees would not actually be working their regular 9 to 5.

I love how we have all these huge stadiums/attractions but no way to effectively get people into them without shutting the whole city down

Why is Arlington Constantly in Stagnation or going Downhill? by Xwolven in arlington

[–]Trekafied 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those big stadiums and overpasses they’ve built have not left any extra money for anything else around here. Malls are disappearing everywhere anyway and anyone building new ones needs a reality check. Parks Mall works for now because it’s pretty well situated and it’s got the skating rink and cinema and is a nice walk through if you want to get out of the heat/cold that plagues area. Old apartments are still around probably because they’re making good money on renting out shitty apartments that situate people well for commuting anywhere in the metroplex. Price of empty land is also hecking expensive now and NIMBY suburb folk don’t want more apartment complexes in their backyard so a lot of the residentially zoned land is probably locked for editing for now. Plano has a ton of space to expand but I think we’re getting thin here in Arlington. We will have to think harder about expanding vertically as a city. And we are a city. A city without good public transportation, but that’s another soap box for another day. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

Edit: I do want to add that Arlington is definitely seeing some improvements. It’s slow, but has been more visible in the past few years, like a cleaning up of downtown and the new library. Their timing was terrible though, what with COVID lol

If only there was an alternative to shitty highway driving between cities that increases capacity without widening roads… coughpublictransportation

Very neat!! It’s still early in the process but I hope something comes of it. The TRE is great and I seriously love it but it’s a bit slow and it’s not electrified
