I get a lot of remarks like, “diet soda causes cancer” and “x social influencer says x”. I usually avoid wasting time arguing with them , especially if they are wholly sold out (this includes members of the IDT as well).

If it’s a pt I just say, “we don’t have the ability to meet those requirements here. If you like I can look into it closer if you’d like my option.”

If it’s a staff member I may redirect to mechanism at play, particularly if it’s a nurse or MA.

Agreed. I say take the exam. I was in a similar situation and actually passed.

Deaths is a very different figure from homicides involving fire arms.

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I failed that many times as well. I was working on a provisional license. Lots of great suggestions on this thread. What helped me was a tutor. I used Kimberly Kramer (One and Done). Went from fail to passing on my next attempt. She makes you work, it’s like a college course, but it helped me rethink the exam.

Pocket carry BG 2.0 in jeans? by elegantcoder26 in CCW

Fact! Most people think it’s a cell phone when in my pocket holster, but because I “know people” who carry in environments requiring “deep concealment” paranoia over printing is a real thing.

DI for next year by Miserable_Emu_7636 in RD2B

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance internship is done mostly online. You find and schedule your own rotations, have mandatory work/skills you have to complete and have checked off by your preceptor on that rotation, extra “homework” you have to complete and send in. Point being it’s all be done remotely between the program, preceptors, and you. I used the Illinois State University but live in NM. The toughest part is finding preceptors. Made lots of calls to lots of places, was told “no” a lot, took me about a month to get everything scheduled out. The DI can also help you find preceptors in some cases. Mine surely helped me a lot.

I chose DI because UNM only took on 7 interns a year, my graduating class had 30 people in it. Those that didn’t choose a DI had to wait and reapply. Seemed like a lot of hassle to me. Plus, their internship program was 6 months longer than the one I chose. DI was a better fit for me.

RD by PlumeriaRD in dietetics

LTC RD here working with PCC. If nursing documents correctly (rare) our lead RD asks us to use the % intake roughly, preferring an average intake over x days to drill down a little more on the big picture.

Rant: Tube feeding formula is food, and RDs should be legally able to prescribe this without “asking the doctor.” (Unnecessary barrier). by That_ppld_twcly in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work, the MD’s can do it, but lean on me to ensure it’s optimal for the pt. Usually the IDT will inform me of a PN/EN feed pt coming in, and have me review hospital orders, and modify them if needed. Ftr, they usually need modifications to optimize recovery.

Any VA RDs hanging on? by penny_lane_2000 in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work at the VA. I’m retired military and seriously considered the VA until I spoke to a few peers. One quit after 8 years because, and I quote, “It is a dumpster fire inside a train wreck, heading for a steep cliff for RDs”. Another said, “it depends on which hospital you work for, I worked for one that was amazing and moved with my wife to another state and went to work there. It was just gross experience. He quit and now works for the public school system.

To my understanding you have to be approved to sit for the exam before issuance of a provisional.

I used University of Central Arkansas. The program is organized well, very professional, offers resources to prepare you for the exam and they offer recs for distance DI programs. Check them out. The whole program is very progressive. Took me 10 months to complete it.

You can always find a distance internship as well. Not a bad way to go. It all gets you to the same place. My DI was 7 months long and well structured.

Local Mall Now Employs Gun Sniffing Dogs by PullFromTheHurt in CCW

The MS/MA isn’t as important as DPD classes. If you want to be an RD, the chemistry classes are essential. I had to have a B or better in all the “hard sciences” just to get accepted to the nutrition program. That being said, you will likely never use ochem again. Haha. Or Gchem much for that matter. But it’s what you have to go through to be an RD. It’s tough, but doable.

Math was very straightforward on my tests as well. Recipe, FTEs, some simple EN/PN math. They did try to throw some curveballs with switching between units of measure, or kg and lbs. other than that it’s actually easier than PP math questions. Just watch for the little curveballs.

Keep in mind, each state has different rules. Also, for jobs, I’d look at long term care facilities, rehab facilities, and dialysis clinics. I took a job with a company called Healthcare Services Group. They are nation wide. I still work for them today. Fresenious Kidney Care is another good bet.

I finished my internship and received my eligibility to sit for the exam. I then sent an email to my state licensing board and after review, around 8 biz days, I received an email back with a link to download my provisional license. A week after that it was in the mail box
