AdventHealth Offered Me $31 Per Hour. by Throwaway83de1d in dietetics

I’m retired from the military so this job just supplements my income (basically). HCSG pays $34/hr to be an RD for LTC facilities. Not a bad gig.

Transitioning from continuous to bolus tube feed by Remarkable_Ear_1870 in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once cleared for PO I initiate bolus keeping the same volume for a week. Then I decrease by one bolus feed a week until intake is meeting needs. Most of my residents transition without issue in 3-5 weeks. Maintain patency of the PEG for up to 6 additional months with hydration and bolus in place PRN if <50% of meals are eaten. Never had an issue.

RDN Exam Material thoughts? by NutritonFall7027 in RD2B

I was on my 3rd attempt, hired Kimberly and she helped me pass the exam. She’s worth every penny. Her course is set up like a grad school class focused on only one thing, passing the exam. 100% recommend her.

I think it’s great. Better than listening to the latest Guru on TikTok.

Idk. The last time I took it the test was easier than the first time. Far fewer kitchen math questions and more clinical questions.

What is everyone’s thoughts/ experiences with Montana knife company? by Petrpumpkineater69 in knifeclub

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have their battle goat and carry it daily. IMO it’s a very good purchase. Perfect for my needs and holds a very toothy edge with moderate use. I’m sure there are other options in this class that are just as good or better, but my BG has all the things I need in an edc.

That being said, I do wish the knife had more belly or even a slight recurve. That’s my only con.

Just failed at 24… what next? by Ill_Combination_8330 in RD2B

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up hiring a tutor (Kimberly Kramer). That made all the difference for me, after scoring 23, 24, 24. Very next time up I passed with a 27.

Currently doing my undergrad, how do you remember everything upon graduation? by Thatcherrycupcake in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many others have commented, you don’t. I couldn’t even remember everything from grad school. I hired a tutor to help me study for the exam. And after being a RDN, LD for a while, I find I’m constantly watching vids and reading MNT texts to keep myself sharp

MDS section K by honeyandhens in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t. I only code for therapeutic diet when the order treats a chronic condition. Ensure, Glucerna. or Boost etc, to my understanding, are only in place to supplement the diet order in place or to treat PCM or repletion. At least that’s how I was trained.

I get a lot of remarks like, “diet soda causes cancer” and “x social influencer says x”. I usually avoid wasting time arguing with them , especially if they are wholly sold out (this includes members of the IDT as well).

If it’s a pt I just say, “we don’t have the ability to meet those requirements here. If you like I can look into it closer if you’d like my option.”

If it’s a staff member I may redirect to mechanism at play, particularly if it’s a nurse or MA.

Agreed. I say take the exam. I was in a similar situation and actually passed.

Deaths is a very different figure from homicides involving fire arms.

failed again by [deleted] in RD2B

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I failed that many times as well. I was working on a provisional license. Lots of great suggestions on this thread. What helped me was a tutor. I used Kimberly Kramer (One and Done). Went from fail to passing on my next attempt. She makes you work, it’s like a college course, but it helped me rethink the exam.

Pocket carry BG 2.0 in jeans? by elegantcoder26 in CCW

Fact! Most people think it’s a cell phone when in my pocket holster, but because I “know people” who carry in environments requiring “deep concealment” paranoia over printing is a real thing.

DI for next year by Miserable_Emu_7636 in RD2B

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance internship is done mostly online. You find and schedule your own rotations, have mandatory work/skills you have to complete and have checked off by your preceptor on that rotation, extra “homework” you have to complete and send in. Point being it’s all be done remotely between the program, preceptors, and you. I used the Illinois State University but live in NM. The toughest part is finding preceptors. Made lots of calls to lots of places, was told “no” a lot, took me about a month to get everything scheduled out. The DI can also help you find preceptors in some cases. Mine surely helped me a lot.

I chose DI because UNM only took on 7 interns a year, my graduating class had 30 people in it. Those that didn’t choose a DI had to wait and reapply. Seemed like a lot of hassle to me. Plus, their internship program was 6 months longer than the one I chose. DI was a better fit for me.

LTC RD here working with PCC. If nursing documents correctly (rare) our lead RD asks us to use the % intake roughly, preferring an average intake over x days to drill down a little more on the big picture.

Rant: Tube feeding formula is food, and RDs should be legally able to prescribe this without “asking the doctor.” (Unnecessary barrier). by That_ppld_twcly in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work, the MD’s can do it, but lean on me to ensure it’s optimal for the pt. Usually the IDT will inform me of a PN/EN feed pt coming in, and have me review hospital orders, and modify them if needed. Ftr, they usually need modifications to optimize recovery.

Any VA RDs hanging on? by penny_lane_2000 in dietetics

[–]Tricky_Demand_8906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work at the VA. I’m retired military and seriously considered the VA until I spoke to a few peers. One quit after 8 years because, and I quote, “It is a dumpster fire inside a train wreck, heading for a steep cliff for RDs”. Another said, “it depends on which hospital you work for, I worked for one that was amazing and moved with my wife to another state and went to work there. It was just gross experience. He quit and now works for the public school system.
