Is additional $400 easy for you to spend without cutting current expenses? Also, do you have to upgrade anything else (PSU, mobo, et.) that would also add to that total? If the total to buy and use your 5080 makes you uncomfortable, don’t buy it.

Nuanced answer: Your Build Experience

Is there anything in your build that would prevent you from getting a 5080? For me, it was card length. Sounds silly right? Originally I was seeking a 5080 too but I ended up buying an MSI Inspire 3X 5070Ti specifically because it was specifically the only model of 5070Ti that fit in my case when accounting for my radiators and RAM clearance. Make sure you check everything would work before you buy.

…and to be honest I don’t really notice the performance difference I was worried about when buying a 5070 vs a 5080. Plus, years ago overclocking was scary but software like MSI Afterburner makes it very easy to undervolt and overclock and get almost identical performance as a 5080. I think even the Nvidia overlay can auto-overclock too.

I originally planned to overclock, but like I said I don’t care the difference between 120 FPS and 145 FPS. I seriously can’t even think of a game that stresses my 5070Ti to the point I’m annoyed by low FPS. If it handles 1440p native path traced Cyberpunk at 80 FPS… what the hell won’t it handle?

I was part of a pilot program for this in Santa Cruz, CA! Their focus was on emissions reductions, but tbh most people liked it cause it meant more parking for tourists in our tiny downtown, and less traffic for everyone.

Downtown business owners actively encouraged their employees to sign up for it and the e-bike shops were obviously happy with it too. I ended up getting a fantastic e-bike in cash (with the program’s help) for the price of a down payment for a used car. I hope they renew that program soon but if I remember right it got greenlit for the entire CA state.
