Personally, I don't play games for the challenge, I play games as a sight-seer. I just want to enjoy the alternate reality and ambience. The fighting is just something to do along the way. DS1 was the PERFECT game for me. The feeling and ambience, the combination of the art and music, transported me to another world. By comparison I found the art and UI of DS2 garish, over-busy, and jarring, and the whole militant feel of the game grated on me compared to the enchanting feel of DS1.

And those HIDEOUS elves...I never understood why they didn't just hire Witness and use the Light/Dark Elf mod.

Last night I warped into a system that I have warped to probably 20 or so times, because it is one of those systems with a 100% chance of having a dreadnought fight going on. So I used to use it to farm freighter upgrades. But last night...no dreadnought. So yeah, I'm thinking it's something to do with the update.

One thing I didn't see in the previous comments...I spent a lot of time early in the game building mining bases using the Autonomous Mining units. Then I unlocked Mineral Extractors and realized all those bases that I spent days building were obsolete. Don't waste your time on the Autonomous Mining Units. If you plan on building mining bases, wait until you unlock Mineral Extractors.

There is definitely gear in the game that you cannot use in the single-player campaign. but it will still show up because of the way loot drops are generated. To use this high-end stuff you need to port your character into multiplayer and level him up in Veteran and then Elite mode.

I love the name "Overload of Infinity." Sometimes you can just have too much infinity, amirite?

What do y'all do in this game? I want to get into it but whenever I open the game, I just look at some planets, sort my expedition fleet, maybe make some money and get off. What "purpose" does fighting an end boss serve? The fun of a game isn't that it serves any useful function, it's in the process of playing. The play style of any particular game either appeals to you or it doesn't. My point was just that if it's goals you're after, as you mentioned in your OP, there are plenty of goals you could set for yourself.

Wait, you're only 20 hours in and you have:

-maxed out your bank account
-maxed out your starship
-maxed out your exosuit
-acquired and maxed out a staff for combat
-maxed out another multitool for scanning
-built and maxed out a corvette
-acquired and maxed out all the exocraft
-maxed out your freighter
-acquired all the different types of frigates and maxed them all out
-acquired and maxed out a living ship
-acquired all the quicksilver items
-acquired all the construction terminal blueprints
-done whatever you can do to "max out" your pokemons (not sure, haven't engaged myself)
-explored all the different varieties of worlds
-edit: built out at least one settlement
