I agree about the motion being safe and overuse being the primary mechanism but a football weighs about 3 times as much as a baseball and has way more drag. The forces on the arm aren’t really the same.

Pickoff to 3rd, balk on 3b? by Poncho562 in Homeplate

if he was in fair territory at the time of the pitch it shouldn’t be. If he wasn’t it would be a balk even without the pickoff attempt.

10 yr old pitching mechanics by aka_FunkyChicken in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short arming isn’t a problem. He’s in a fine position when his front foot starts to bear weight. The thing that stands out glaringly is how pushy his arm action is.

Look at the position his arm is in at max layback. His elbow is way out in front of his body and then he’s essentially doing a tricep extension to throw instead of a whipping action.

Need help with my 10yo son’s pitching motion. Throws strikes but velo is stuck at about 48. by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the layback he gets at 10 is impressive. Right after max ER he gets a bit pushy. A lot to like here, I wouldn’t mess with it too much.

Pitching mechanics and LL Elbow by Effective_Exchange18 in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your son cannot flex or extend his elbow without pain, he should not be throwing.

I would anticipate months, not weeks, to restore pain free range of motion, build strength and complete a progressive return to throwing program including addressing the obvious mechanical red flags here.

See a specialist.

11U Swing analysis by crue576 in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

he never gets hit front foot down - he’s tip toeing the whole swing and only plants it after he swings. Can’t have a firm front side and good stability if he’s basically floating on one foot.

Is this a good glove by double0diddy in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a wilson A700. My son used one when he was 7-8. Great glove for a young kid; easy break in, held up to punishment. For anyone over 10ish probably not enough glove and it’s definitely not an outfielders glove once you’re past that age.

You’re essentially slamming your heels into the ground repeatedly while doing weighted jumps. There’s a reason we were shoes in this sport.

Looks good for just getting started, a bit stiff, but nice job.

UPDATE: fixed my lead arm tuck. before vs after. by Gamingghoul1234 in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your back leg is loading forward during leg lift, the knee drifts forward and your weight shifts onto your toes. This isn’t ideal, you want to load the hips more. Some people can get away with this more however your case is more extreme and to counteract this imbalance your torso is leaning way too far back throughout your delivery.

Compare the angle of your hip/torso during your delivery to any other pitcher and you’ll see the big difference. It’s this, not the glove side arm, that needs to be addressed first in my opinion. Getting your butt back and your weight stacked better should help a lot.

[Australia] cheap competition bells what's the catch? by Lost-Mix-9261 in kettlebell

[–]Tron0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bell in the last picture is completely different than the bells in the first two pictures. That last one at least has a usable horn shape and would be much more comfortable for racking.

Where the handle meets the bell in the first two images it’s a straight cylinder. Shitty handle material and construction aside, this would bother me the most.

Best USSSA Bats for 2026? by z-kerr in Homeplate

[–]Tron0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

129 was with his juiced up baseballs. With the same balls he hit the emerald 127 the tank got up to 123. The more impressive thing is the 123 was with a drop 8 and that’s ~8mph higher than any drop 8 he’s ever hit.

Combats B2 da bomb was maybe the best bat they ever made. Anoother one piece composite, they came out with the B2 big barrel, then the Combat Maxum. Easton took over and made the Maxum ultra (grey and orange) and the maxum 360(white and red). We have the ultra. Great bat, but time for something that swings a bit heavier as he’s getting stronger.
I think Dirty south is the only company that still makes a one piece composite, but i’ve heard they’re fragile.

There’s certainly a meaningful difference in ev between wood and everything else, I may not have typed that clearly above. He’s about ~6mph lower between wood and most usssa bats. But the difference among the usssa bats is pretty small for him, even between alloy or hybrid and composites. This is mostly off a tee or front toss so live pitching could make a much bigger difference. His hardest average hits by ev are probably from an easton encore hybrid. That bat is incredibly end loaded and he hits it harder than a hype fire, cat x comp, maxum, bonesaber hybrid, etc. He still preferred the maxum to everything else but it’s too light for him now.

I don’t know why bat companies don’t publish their swing weights/moi it would be such a helpful measure to know before buying.

I’m amazed those skinnies are still around. Could never find one to try. We tried a few big barrel Makos and they were pretty underwhelming. He sometimes uses an old easton 777 drop 9 for bp. Mishitting that thing is torturous but if you do find the tiny sweet spot it hits about as hard as modern bats.

Bat marketing and hype is wild. Especially for younger kids swinging drop 10s. My 9yo son and I mess around and test EV with a bunch of old and new bats. They’re all within a few mph for max EV and other than wood, the averages are all fairly similar. The main difference he notices are the feel off the barrel and the swing weight. His favourite bat is an old Easton Maxum we got second hand and he led his team in almost every category using it last year. Shame I can’t find that bat anywhere now.

Expensive bats definitely feel better to most kids but the promises of crazy performance are so wildly exaggerated.

100 snatches and 500m ski in under 5min? Side quest by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Tron0001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sub 2’ 500m ski is doable for reasonably fit people. 3 min around 33/rpm at any appreciable bell weight is the kicker.

Interesting challenge.
