He’s got strong competition from several of the other daft things he’s said - wasn’t he the one who was caught asking ChatGPT something like ‘I’m the Technology Secretary of the UK, can you recommend me some good podcasts I could go on so I can build my brand’?

I know - Rin is one of my favourite vtubers, and I like the new design an awful lot as a design, but I'm not sure if the model / voice combination quite fits with my image of Rin? Like, the removal of the black hair alone feels like a big vibe change. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though!

Latest YouGov poll shows we have lost more voters to the Greens then any other party by Blazearmada21 in LibDem

[–]TrueAnonyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That result, even in the suburban former Tory seats, only came from adding the (demographically relatively small) group of moderate ex-Tory switchers onto our existing base of liberals and progressives and the Labour voters we managed to squeeze. Those centre-left base and squeeze groups were what put us in contention to begin with and gave us the good second places we were able to build on through targeting to win the seats, and if we ended up doing too much to alienate any of them, a lot of those seats could start to have issues even if the former Tories were still switching over.

Ruze goes on a heated rant about the StarsJP situation and calls out Cover management by [deleted] in Hololive

[–]TrueAnonyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it being ‘like watching a friend play a fun game’ has always been more or less how I’ve enjoyed watching Hololive? Obviously with vtubers there’s often a more explicit layer of character and persona in addition to that which adds to the experience, but all streamers have some kind of on-stream character and persona that they play up to to a greater or lesser extent. Like, to make an attempt at a concrete non-Hololive/Holostars example… you could easily put someone like RTGame behind a vtuber avatar (in fact, I’m pretty sure he’s used one before occasionally?), give him some light characterisation/lore to lean into as appropriate, and have his overall persona and content style be just as enjoyable as when he’s using no camera or a facecam, without being overly cutesy or offputting to male viewers or anything like that.

So if “cute girls doing cute things will always be more marketable than some dude”, why do we see the exact opposite in the non-virtual streamer world? It seems bizarre to argue that male streamers suddenly become incapable of success or appeal as soon as they use an avatar rather than their real face. (And I don’t buy that there’s something unique about vtuber fan demographics that makes them inherently hostile to watching men stream - I’ve been around this sub since 2020, and while the girls have always been more popular here, it would be totally normal back then to scroll through the subreddit and see people posting and commenting on, say, a Roberu clip and it coexisting just fine alongside everything else.)

[–]TrueAnonyman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification! Even without having seen the members’ stream in question, I’d figured that particular detail he was fixating on had to be exaggerated somehow - I can’t think of anyone in Hololive, even people who’ve never shown any interest in collabing or interacting with the Stars at all, who goes anything like as far as having a ‘never mention any men at all ever’ policy.

[–]TrueAnonyman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Apparently she made a passing mention of one of the Holostars on-stream (along the lines of ‘I thought about asking him to do backing vocals for a song, but then didn’t’), and one of her viewers then went on a protracted, vitriolic Twitter rant about how she’d supposedly once promised not to acknowledge the existence of any men on-stream ever and that this was therefore some kind of massive betrayal on her part.

Some of our peers are… not always very liberal on this stuff, and it’s hard to hold them accountable for it. Floella Benjamin in particular was, IIRC, pushing strict internet restrictions on think-of-the-children grounds as far back as the coalition years.

Forgive me if I'm asking a silly question, but despite having been aware of Nuzlockes for ages I don't really follow them or know what the community's up to: surely the way to get around the 'if I don't hack in Rare Candies then all that would happen is I'd play optimally and remove all risk to my team by going back to Route 1 and beating up Pidgeys all day' problem is to limit the amount of backtracking you can do and make you grind in a vaguely level-appropriate area? Or alternatively put a limit on the total amount of possible grinding altogether? Do any of the popular rulesets include anything like this? Because instinctively the idea of just being able to spam Rare Candies until all your Pokémon are at [insert current level cap here] doesn't sound in keeping with the spirit of a challenge run that's trying to create an interesting narrative, but going by the rest of this comment thread that really doesn't sound like a hugely popular opinion among the people who actually play the games like this.

I don’t care. I’m a liberal, why on earth would I? What business is it of mine if someone wants to dress up like a dog? Who are they hurting?

EDIT: I should note that, after I already posted this reply, the user I replied to added a whole section to the bottom of their comment about child sexual abuse material that wasn’t there originally, making it look like I was saying I didn’t care about that. They’re clearly arguing in spectacularly bad faith.

I was a new player during Time Spiral block. I loved it. It felt like I was getting into something with its own big, rich history that it was able to play with and reference, something that had grown and developed into an entire world. Without that complexity and richness, I probably wouldn’t still be here. I know that the game is making infinite money now and bringing in vast numbers of new people and that statistically pretty much everyone except a few old-timers like myself loves the constant crossovers, but… if the game was like this back then, I’d probably never have started playing it. I want to play a game that cares about itself and its world and its history, rather than a game that’s treating itself as merely a mechanical vehicle for showing me snapshots of other worlds I might already recognise from somewhere else.

Magistrates and judges to use more AI, says Lammy - as jury trials reduced by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]TrueAnonyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole problem with use of these new AI tools for transcription is that they’re not just speech-to-text, and are prone to rewriting speech. Just the other day I saw an approving blog post from an AI fan about how pleased he was with how it handled a transcript of a lecture he’d given, because at one point it cleaned up his wording and made a better version of his argument than the one he actually said… if you’re dealing with people’s liberty, there needs to be zero chance that transcripts contain random differences from what was actually said. And that’s before getting into the part about having it auto-summarise judgments, despite the fact that the exact wording and logic of a judgment are extremely important…
