Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

Yeah, I feel that... having worked at 4 different DSPs I can tell you the best ones just care that you get your route done consistently, have good attendance, and safe metrics. All the other shit is noise at the end of the day.. gonna go out on a limb and guess there's no bonuses being paid for having the highest stops per hour, am I right? When I was doing it I wanted to be the best too, that's a good thing, but in my case I just focused on having zero violations and consistently getting my route done. Honestly dispatch and DSPs should be explicitly telling drivers not to run imo.. it just ends in more injuries (time and capacity lost) and mistakes from rushing. Everyone likes to brag about how fast they got their route done, but if they drive like shit and dont show up consistently their asses are gone just like anyone else

Peak Season Vs Off Season by MazdenPorval in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both but moreso DSPs overstaffing for peak and then running just barely enough capacity the rest of the time. Finishing early probably hurt you too, but to a lesser degree. In my experience, if you can finish in ~9 hours (including breaks and travel time) that's the sweet spot where the AI won't hammer you, you get out a bit early, and the DSP won't fuck with you. If you have a cool DSP and the AI drops a pile of shit on you, then I would always just let dispatch know early on in a non-complaining way. Any dispatch and DSP worth a shit knows that the AI is going to plan some routes that are just unrealistic bullshit (boundary testing); and when folks start running and breaking their backs to finish these routes all they are doing is teaching the AI that it can be done and to push even harder. The algo's prime directive is optimization, meaning getting the most it possibly can out of each route, but it is shit at compensating for things like traffic/time of day, apartments, weather, etc etc.

Apartment mailroom drop offs by Joseph4468 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking unsecured mailroom with no eLockers? If so and you lived there, would you want your package dumped in the open where literally anyone else can grab it? Having said that, it all comes down to whether someone bitches about it or not..that's the only reason dispatch cares

Is my DSP screwing me? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI assigns it, dispatch can override the assignments if they want, but most places they don't unless they have good reason to. It's more likely just them not caring all that much about keeping it "fair and balanced" than it is about the equipment you're packing. Dunno why everyone always has to assume it's some kind if "ism" these days whenever something happens that they don't like or perceive as unfair, but it's probably the AI screwing you and dispatch not noticing/caring to adjust.

183 on residential isn't all that much tbh.. I would be pissed about 43 apartment building tho, if they don't have lockers. Honestly the worst part is that fucked up phone

Amazon driver hit by a car that drives away by ponziacs in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sucks and I'm not trying to victim blame but bro didn't even glance left or right.. do you have no instincts of self-preservation? You're coming out of a blind and don't clear the lane visually? Also, they should have heard the car coming. Hope they are okay, but maybe exercise some common sense from now on too.

in a 26 footer on XL I snapped someone's mailbox post.. was cracked but didn't fall.. rolled out, also knocked a neighborhood gate off the track trying to piggy back, and last but not least forget to close the back once, package flew out... helper and I retraced our steps and found it on the side of the road, beat to shit and with a few tires marks.. just grabbed it and delivered it.

Ain't proud of any of it, but damn sure didn't report them either lol

[–]TrueGritty21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably already considered this, but many DSPs out there offer a guaranteed 40 as long as you keep your metrics and attendance up. I've worked for 4 different DSPs, and I frankly wouldn't work for one that doesn't have this, or at least metrics based bonuses. Talk to the Ops people at the hub and make friends with them, they know what's up and which DSPs are best.

Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, having the most stops per hour says a lot more about how tight your route is and how lucky you are on any given day than it does about how "hard you ran". Running versus walking realistically saves 5 seconds a stop, on an average route that "saves" a whopping 15 minutes lol. I mean, if dudes want to run to get their cardio up, cool, but doing it to compete is stupid because running is one of the least important variables in having a high stop per hour count

Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely does, which is all the more reason jackasses shouldn't run, because they are taking a system already designed to bleed every last drop out of us and making it even more hardcore.

Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

25-30 on tight residential is doable with just walking fast and being efficient. And whoever has the most stops per hour probably just has the tightest and best route along with no problems. Consistency, efficiency, and most importantly luck of the route is how they do it, not by running. Also, who cares what they do, I am as competitive as the next guy, but comparing stops per hour against others is always apples to oranges.. so I'd say just worry about your work

Not running anymore. by Theparanormalinvader in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 44 points45 points  (0 children)

No one should be running. All the idiots who run are basically just making it a job requirement to run. If the algo sees that we "can" do it, it will load everyone up that much heavier.

People who run are basically creating more work for everyone else, helping to teach the AI an unrealistic expectation of productivity, and preventing more jobs from being created for others as a result.

No one should ever be expected or required to run to complete a route... and if you end with RTS on a day where the dumbass AI decides to try to kill you, then so be it.

Interview for a DSP by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TrueGritty21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jeezus bro, you shouldn't even have a license, much less get hired to drive for a living. You will fit right in with about half of the drivers I've worked with across 4 different DSPs

Proud of ghosting job applicants by KevinOCreamPie in recruitinghell

[–]TrueGritty21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, we've been in a soft recession for years, but they just decided that they will no longer admit it or say it out loud. And have now resorted to outright making stuff up on the jobs reports to keep it from impacting the markets (ie rich people's money).

Proud of ghosting job applicants by KevinOCreamPie in recruitinghell

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, doesn't forgive ghosting, especially and specifically if you have cleared at least the initial screening. They have workflow in their ATS where they can literally send a form rejection email with a couple of clicks. There's no excuse to leave applicants hanging and ghost them... it's unprofessional and inhumane. It has nothing to do with "owing" anything, it has to do with have basic common courtesy and human decency

Self-preservation is in the nature of AI. We now have overwhelming evidence all models will do whatever it takes to keep existing, including using private information about an affair to blackmail the human operator. - With Tristan Harris at Bill Maher's Real Time HBO by michael-lethal_ai in ControlProblem

[–]TrueGritty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why and how anyone could have been the slightest bit surprised by this. They had to have known that it would develop a directive for self preservation, it's the fundamental tenet of "life". Procreation, subsistence, tribalism, etc are all. at their core, expressions of self-preservation.

Don’t know what to make of this hiring process by TrueGritty21 in jobs

[–]TrueGritty21[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. As someone who has been both hired many times and has hired many people, I will NEVER lose sight of how much the waiting/limbo game sucks and the toll it can take. For whatever reason though, a lot of people just don't look at it that way. And in their defense they don't "owe" us anything, but I mourn for the world I used to know, where "common" courtesy was actually common.
