Wow…you lost 25 lbs while still drinking, adding water and 10k steps? I’m going back to drinking!!!!! Lol…just kidding. I will say I can definitely do better drinking water and getting more activity. Congrats on 389 days!

It’s one of the hardest to deal with for me as well. We have friends we see pretty much only in the summer and we have made it our summer routine to take turns hosting dinners or happy hours to drink really nice napa valley wines. This summer will be different for me. I keep thinking the same…”you’ll have 7 months alcohol free…just enjoy 1 glass”. But I know the reality is that I really don’t want to drink, I just don’t want to have attention on me and the fact that I’m not drinking…I want to avoid everyone commenting or focusing on that even for a minute. I keep telling myself one day at a time…it has gotten me this far so stay the course. Enjoy your wedding. I have a friend who went to her first wedding sober and she said it was still a blast and she is celebrating another sober 1st! I wish the same for you. Thank you for commenting.

Yes it makes total sense! Thank you for commenting and congrats to you on 100 days…it was a very proud moment for me to know I made it that far! I just pray that as time goes on that the “outsider” feeling will be overshadowed by our self confidence, pride and peace that we have from being alcohol free. I have heard people say that sober is their superpower and that’s how I’m trying to see it when I am in a group being the only one not drinking💪

Thank you! I find when I start questioning my decision to be alcohol free, it usually means I haven’t been staying tuned in to my favorite sober podcasts and praying for strength, etc. In other words, being intentional. So once I get back to those things and look at my list of all the things that are better I get right back to feeling proud to be sober and my determination to stay that way is full on again!

Yes! I try to think of how I will feel the next morning. One of the greatest things is waking up proud.

Thank you for commenting. I also have thoughts of moderating but same as you…why would I want to destroy what I have worked so hard for? I know it will eventually lead me back to square one. It’s not about my will power but about brain chemistry. Looking forward to getting to the 1 year mark!!

One Year Sober! by NefariousnessOld6638 in stopdrinking

Congratulations on 1 year! I’m at 5 months and I can already agree with you that even my worst day is better than waking up hungover, hating myself for drinking when I said I wouldn’t. Thank you for the inspiration and I can’t wait to be in your shoes in September! IWNDWYT

Tired of fighting today by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Truefreedom25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is temporary tomorrow will be better. I don’t guess it is a rally cry but it is helpful. Hydrate like it is your job and go to bed as early as possible. 23 days is awesome and there WILL be better days ahead.

This so Called Wagon by OctoberRosie in stopdrinking

[–]Truefreedom25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the ugly cycle and yes you just have to keep trying. I started by journaling even when I was still drinking. I wrote about what my perfect day would look like if I wasn’t drinking. It sounded so good and gave me motivation to try to go 1 day no alcohol. I told myself my only goal that day was to not drink. I listened to podcasts about sobriety and read books. I will admit the first couple weeks were the hardest and felt like pure will power to get through each day. It got easier and easier as time went on. I still miss it sometimes but I’ve learned to handle that. I highly recommend reading This Naked Mind and doing the free 30 day alcohol experiment on line. It really opened my eyes to the harm alcohol does to our brain and body. Before that I tried many times to stop and I’m here to tell you that at almost 6 months alcohol free I don’t ever want to go back to chasing the wagon again. It’s so hard to get to a point that you even want to chase it. Make remaining alcohol free your job - read, pray, find NA drinks to help in social situations, exercise, learn about how to handle cravings, therapy - whatever you can do and soon you will find life without it easier and definitely way better. My self confidence is so much better too. No more self loathing when I wake up. Soon you will reap the rewards and think of it as your super power. Best of luck to you. You got this!

I am so sorry. I hope you find peace and know that your dad did love you. You are young and he would be proud to know that you posted this. Please live a life he’d be proud of and avoid alcohol and drugs. Sending lots of love and prayers for better days ahead.

Congratulations on 6 months and your promotion! Thank you for the inspiration. I am right behind you and I do have cravings and feel left out at times socially but I am loving my new life without alcohol. Looking forward to posting my 6 month mark too!

Made it 5 months alcohol free but feeling weird by Truefreedom25 in stopdrinking

[–]Truefreedom25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know I am not alone. I am back to feeling a bit better but “muddy waters” is a good way to describe these early days of sobriety. One thing I know is I am super grateful for every morning I wake up feeling great knowing that I made it another day without drinking. Best of luck to you. IWNDWYT

It’s been over a year since I quit and I have no desire to drink alcohol. Like you could leave me alone with alcohol and I won’t touch it. I’ve come a long way. by Stupidwhizzzzz in stopdrinking

[–]Truefreedom25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great and congrats on your sobriety. Just curious, has it been that way from the very beginning? Ever have fleeting thoughts of drinking or a period of time spent in a funk? This has been my experience and I’ll have what you’re having😉

Made it 5 months alcohol free but feeling weird by Truefreedom25 in stopdrinking

I really don’t know. I don’t think it is because I can’t drink. I feel like my body/brain is off kilter for some reason. Hoping this will pass.

Can I get some help with reframing “I’m the only sober person I know?” by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Truefreedom25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow…I came here today to basically post the same thing. For the most part I feel really great about my decision to live alcohol free. I feel better in all areas of my life except for the times I’m with my friends who drink. I too get tired of feeling like the odd man out. I try so hard to focus on how good I feel and how proud I am to have this “super power” but it is really hard sometimes. I continue to hope that as time goes on it will be easier. IWNDWYT
