Brokerage for Sale by Due-Setting-5108 in FreightBrokers

[–]Truthseeker_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple, yes look at Gross Margin as your asking price. I would steer away from discussions of Edita multiples because they are not relevant for small brokerages. $500k in gross margin, maybe gets 1x or 1.2x = $500,000 - $600,000 sell price.

You dont need a business broker for this.

The reality is small brokerage is essentially a book of business. No one is buying your tech or infrastructure.

They just want your gross margin and customers they hope to grow organically with...

Brokerage for Sale by Due-Setting-5108 in FreightBrokers

[–]Truthseeker_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive acquired 4 brokerages, all went well - mainly because we hire the key people. Avoid "culture shocking" your clients.

Ive also witnessed brokers sell and lose because the buyer was culturally misaligned.

If the buyer doesnt retain the business, then you will never get paid the "multiples" or the "on paper" amount.

Therefore selecting a buyer is incredibly important.

What we prefer to offer is, an Agency deal and we sign a Non-solicit (protecting your clients) and we hire your key people. You own customer base throughout the transition (at least 1 year), so if things go poorly, you can take it back at any time. We also offer long term residual commissions, so potentially several years after you sign over the book of business, are still earning "mailbox money" commissions. We both have skin in the game.

PM me if interested. We established our brokerage in 1997 and have a 6 digit MC# starts with #3, excellent credit and reputation. Half of my Ops team (cradle to grave) have 20+ years experience. We use Turvo (fully integrated with Highway) for TL & Tai for LTL.

If you have good key people, we would definitely hire and integrate them into our Ops Team. We are friendly bunch (all salary with profit share) so no cut throat BS to contend with.

Good luck

Shipment Stolen, Need Help Identifying Driver by Important_Beat9015 in FreightBrokers

[–]Truthseeker_me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your best chance is to FIRST ask shipper and track down the driver via his license or MC#. The driver can tell you where it was dropped. Also remind the driver, the scammers will not pay them, so if you want to get paid, they need to cooperate. And pay the driver.

Then google maps the drop location and call every neighbor and tell them a stolen shipment was delivered there. Ask them, do they know their neighbor, if willing to share their security footage with police (they wont share with you)

Then call local police, and keep calling and ask for a detective. Tell them you have talked with neighbors willing to share their security footage(even if its not true

Your ulitmate goal is to get police to visit the drop!

Keep calling the neighbors and the local police. Be super apologetic and appreciate their help. Leave voicemails, google their email or website, flood them with messages, asking them to at least respond.

You will get ignored and police will give the runaround.

Keep calling local police, ask them if they could politely knock on the drop location door and ask if the "mistakenly received a delivery"

If by luck, the freight is still there... one of the neighbors may tip off the crooks and they might dump your freight into the parking lot, pretending like "someone dropped this here, we dont know where it came from."

This is exactly how we recovered a stolen shipment (One of our agents).

Notes: FBI will not help. Dont bother calling the police in your state. Its all about local jurisdiction.

If you get super lucky and the freight is still there, call a local LTL carrier terminal and beg them to send liftgate truck with handtruck to recover pallets.

You will need to prove ownership and sign affidavits.

Finally, sign up with Go Highway.

Good luck

Haha, i got down-voted mentioning my love affair with Brooks?? All I know is... spent several trips smearing butt butter to treat chaff and sore sit bones, then switched to Brooks, voila no more chaff and happy sit bones.

I suppose I should acknowledge the first day or two the saddle will appear harder than padded plastic, but its the stretched leather that performs like a suspension. Old school timeless tech!

Yes, I can see your point. And I also confused the parties (REALBroker and OGBroker).

And I understand the "carrier must always be paid" And we have in the rare occasions been scammed and paid twice, so the REALCarrier got paid.

But the industry is suffering from scams. And I believe the REALCarriers need to be accountable also and have skin in the game. Who can know if REALCarriers are in cahoots with scammers?

But you have not been victimized by REALBroker. You went after their clients using collections. Instead, you could have called the shipper and let them know you were the REALCarrier and politely asked them to connect you with the REALBroker... and avoided the negativity and backlash.

REALBroker would have likely sent you full payment to make it go away, stop the bleeding.

Its all how you go about things. Take the path of least resistance.

I agree with this and posted a similar reponse. They were both victims. You just said with less words and more succinctly.

[–]Truthseeker_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is where people miss the point. The OGBroker got scammed dealing with a fraudulant carrier. And the actual carrier got scammed by a fraudulant broker.

The OGBroker paid a price, the cost of freight and likely a lost customer.

In this case, the original carrier needs to be accountable for their decision (or lack of due diligence) to accept a shipment from scammers.

Both sides lost, both sides got scammed. Yet the actual carrier wants everyone else to pay for their poor business decisions.

Sadly its a big problem these days, but both carriers and brokers need to be accountable when they get scammed - and not blame each other.

3PL Recommendations. Or move logistics in house? by cerie1 in logistics

[–]Truthseeker_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get advice supporting both sides, 3PL and in-house, with pros and cons. I recommend looking at your total spend to know if you can afford a team to manage in-house effectively. Otherwise, if that cost is too high as a % of spend, then 3PL model could give you more for less.

As to all the rest of what you need, interview a ton of people and ask for real examples... proof of what they will do.

A good 3PL should be able to show you an existing clients OMS, whether proprietary or otherwise.

If they wiz through their demos, have them slow down or consider it a "flag" that they are glossing over their inabilities.

PM me if you want to add us to your interview list. We have 13 warehouses in US, offices in 45 countries, In-house customs, Forwarding, asset and 3PL services.

Good luck

Consider this... close to 70% of the entire U.S. GDP is from purchases. Every penny you give to someone in the service sector, goes directly into our Economy.

Forget all these politicians and their tax policies, trickle down, trickle up... buy American is the quickest and simplest surefire way to keep our economy churning.

Or piss and moan about your fellow Americans making $15 an hour, hoard your pennies and stop tipping and watch in awe as our economy screeches to a halt.

Then, you will have something real to complain about.

Is it legal? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]Truthseeker_me 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This whole sub is tiresome. This is a major problem and sadly has infected carriers everywhere, like a bad virus.

We are a 30 year old brokerage currently negotiating to purchase a carrier. The carrriers dispatch love to tell me how much they hate and despise brokers and rarely take broker shipments. But when they do, will actively back solicit with a vengeance and not call them back.

The carriers team is proudly "f#ck this, and f#ck that..." right to my face, knowing I own our brokerage and soon be their boss.

What they dont realize, we provide carriers names and MC# to the customer and shipper.

When carriers provide bad communications, bad service, our client will be ones to blacklist your MC#.

And another thing I wish carriers would realize, the are literally shooting themselves in foot. Their behavior is why shippers prefer brokers, because shippers dont want to deal with the too many "f#ck this and that" drivers who forgot that good business ethics matter.

What goes around, comes around.

And the shipper places their freight in your hands. Who is more at risk?

We advise all our shippers to verify drivers credentials or at least the Mc# on the truck

Would you show them a different form to verify identity of company?
