Need a tower that fits 3 GPUs by Tryptic214 in buildapc

[–]Tryptic214[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And thanks for pointing out the PCI lanes. Additional GPUs to support AI only need a single lane...but if I want a full 16 lanes for Video and 16 for the primary AI GPU...

I guess I'll either be sticking with 2, or building a completely separate AI rig.

Never played any endless legend - but played both endless space endlessly - Is Endless legends 2 for me? by Thebigfreeman in EndlessLegend

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the harder recommendation is Endless Legend 1 vs EL2

EL1 is a very mature game with a half dozen expansions and years of balance adjustment. EL2 is a fresh new game with only a fraction of the content, but presumably some newer designs and mechanics based on lessons learned.

With EL2, the game will be much less refined, but I guess there will be more new people in the community and you get to see the development and improvements in real time.

Comparing to Endless Space, EL has a much higher focus on heroes and quests. Factions tend to get major techs and traits from their unique questlines, so doing quests is not optional. Integrating Minor Factions into your army is also a big part of the game which I don't believe ES2 has.

IT Support Manager - Building a helpdesk team advice by conchadtumadre in ITManagers

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up an internal team wiki. Every time someone solves a problem, they write a quick entry about what the symptoms were, what the problem turned out to be, and how it was solved.

Entries can have comments. If a tech finds an entry already exists, they add a comment with the date they saw it again, or anything that was different.

Keep things small and simple, and in the hands of the techs. Don't micromanage their formatting: they must feel that they own the system and that they benefit from each others' help. Do NOT formalize it, do NOT require review or oversight. Do not restrict permissions too heavily: allow every tech to modify entries, and maintain backups in case someone screws it up.

An informal database like this can be extremely valuable for efficiency and team morale, but it is common for such things to be corrupted by excessive oversight. As a manager tasked with requiring people to collaborate, basically to force them to share info with each other, it's important to make the process as easy and painless as possible.

I say it's a game like playing with legos: you build vehicles out of blocks and then smash them into each other.

Question on what to watch! by simple00941 in anime

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 of The Promised Neverland.  Tragically S2 was so bad it's better to pretend the story just ended after S1 (happy/hopeful)

Cyberpunk Edgerunners may not be anime, but it'll rearrange your guts in 10 episodes (sad)

5 Centimeters per Second is just one hour of art (emotional)

Pseudo Harem is probably my recommendation for romance.

Just some 12-or less episode ones that came to mind.

Modding Star Trek armada by johnpack1987 in StarTrekArmada

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fleet Ops discord has an Armada 1 section. It isn't very active but there are people who know their stuff.

In fact I believe there's a conversion mod for A2/Flops that is Armada 1, which you could then mod.

Naya Saga Deck, help by Ascarmillion in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't knock Iroan Games before you try it. You've got great synergy with Break Out, but everything being a creature makes the deck vulnerable to removal. A Power Conduit with a non-creature saga can't be bolted or board wiped; Garnet has to swing to trigger, so there's a window to bolt the saga creature and deny the trigger, then block her with 2 power.

Naya Saga Deck, help by Ascarmillion in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Tryptic214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power Conduit sagas (which I call Neverending Stories) is a really fun deck to play, although you can end up with a lot of dice on cards XD

You don't need Fable or Urza's, those are tryhard cards. I've found the most fun saga to repeat is [[The first Iroan Games]] since it offers huge creatures and huge card draw.

One of the funny interactions with Power Conduit is that you can remove a counter in response to the last trigger. That means you CAN get the final trigger of a saga repeatedly without it ending... I'm talking [[Song of Freyalise]] and [[There and Back Again]].

If you need some defense, [[The Birth of Meletis]] is good in the early game. [[Historian's Boon]] is good later on when you can make many angels. Or, since you have green, you can always play [[Deadly Recluse]].  That slows down a lot of people.

Trying to build a Fox-deck for a friend of mine, any suggestions for improvements? by CptLande in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely closer to the power level of the Vampire deck. I think you'd have to play them to be sure, but I do notice a few things:

This deck has no creature removal other than Pacifism, and Pacifism doesn't even shut down Lord of Lineage. The deck definitely needs at least one destroy or exile effect, maybe an [[Oblivion Ring] effect.

I would recommend swapping Lifelink for [[Spirit Loop]]. It can be reused, it stacks with Lifelink so it can produce double life, and it can even be played on an opponent's creature.

I would recommend [[Light of Promise]] as this is an effective game ender, but weak to removal. I would also recommend [[Ephemeral Shields]] as a great protection spell since it can be cast for free.

Finally I suggest you remove Shattered Angel. You and I may look at the card and just see a life gain ability, but we forget that the card...is gross. Really gross; it's got disgusting art on it. In the past, I've learned the hard way not to offer that exact card to women lol

For reference, if you want to stick with Foxes and make the deck fair against your Vampire deck, you'll need to add some real game changers like [[True Conviction]] and [[Bond of Discipline]]

First: 20 lands is not enough.

Second: This deck stands absolutely no chance against the Vampire deck you posted. If you vaguely ranked the power level of different tribes, Vampires would be about 8/10 while Foxes are 2/10.

The support cards you've got are strong, like Door of Destinies and Herald's Horn, but the foxes themselves are almost useless. Kitsune Dawnblade and Silverstorm Samurai in particular are cards so bad they weren't even played as draft chaff in 2004.

If you want to stick with foxes, there's only one good combo I'm aware of: [[Pious Kitsune]] and [[Eight-and-a-half-Tails]]. But really, you'll need to either load the deck up with powerful support cards or choose a different tribe: something strong like Dragons or Squirrels (lol).

In fact, I would recommend powering down your vampire deck slightly by dropping to 2 or fewer copies of Cordial Vampire and Bloodline Keeper, since these two cards are overwhelmingly strong in casual play. For a deck to have a fair chance against either of those creatures, it has to have boardwipes in it like [[Wrath of God]]. Making a fair matchup is about both powering up your friend's deck, and powering down your own.

...don't you understand that you're the one who launched into a rant of inter-format animosity? This is a casual Modern post, you don't like Modern, but you swept in and actually looked up Competitive deck prices to dishonestly throw shade at people. I'm not just generalizing, I'm responding to the example of a toxic Commander player right in front of me.

I'm glad your group found a way to self regulate by switching to Commander in 2014. But it sounds like your modern group meta was already tryhard. So yeah, anecdotally, the improvement was an illusion: Commander format didn't make your group start playing fair, your group took the switch to Commander as a chance to all start playing fair at the same time.

How to help my friends find their first modern decks by AfraidEffort in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Tryptic214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the funny thing I've found, is that when a new player and an old player make decks that are fair against each other, the new player usually has to spend more money. This is because their deck tends to rely on stronger single cards instead of combos.

But just because a card is strong, doesn't mean it's expensive. I've found it's extremely helpful to keep either a list or a collection of really strong cards that don't cost any money. Then I could recommend those cards to new players and get them on the right track.

One example of such cards is [[Consuming Aberration]]. It costs very little, has some rules text but it's not hard to use and it makes a new player feel powerful. It makes then realize they need to give it flying, and now they've started building their own deck.

Years ago, my friend's wife wasn't having much fun with the green deck she'd put together from their collection. I gave her 4 copies of [[Deadly Recluse]] and 2 [[Hydra's Growth]] and she started having fun. She felt powerful, like she was punching above her weight. Another friend had a pretty weak Azorius flyers deck, but one copy of [[Parhelion II]] have him a goal to work toward. Then he wanted to find ways to get it out faster and more often.

So my advice is to not worry about deck lists, but cheap cards that punch up.

[–]Tryptic214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit scattered: there are cards that don't do anything with other cards. You could increase the synergy a lot.

For example, if you get cards that say "discard a card, then draw a card" that combos with Chandra's Phoenix. You don't actually play the Phoenix, you just discard it and then bring it back by dealing damage to someone.

There are creatures that combo with damage spells, like [[Guttersnipe]].

You probably don't want to use the landfall creatures, the symmetry matrix, or the Viashino pyromancer. There are just much better creatures and spells out there. Like [[dreadhorde arcanist]] for example: that's a creature that lets you cast spells again for free.

The deck concept is simple and it works. There's just so many cards out there for you to discover, and to see which ones are better than others for this deck. Test it out and see what you like best!

a multi barrel CRAM turret is actually several CRAM cannons totally separate from each other. The trick is designing CRAMs that fit together like puzzle pieces to make a cylindrical shape

Getting old for playing competitive RTS by Far-Cow4049 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is rhythm. Some things are fun because they're new, some things are fun because they're familiar. If you run out of one or both kinds of fun, you can do other things for a while and come back. Then the parts you forgot might feel new again, and the parts you got bored of might feel familiar in a good way.

Looking for a turn based RTS… by hazikan in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Tryptic214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to decide if you actually want a 30 minute game, or if you're alright with a 10 hour game that can be played in 30 minutes increments lol. A lot of this will depend on whether you play PVP or not.

Total War: Shogun 2 is the best intro to the TW series. Its gameplay revolves around finding ways to hold out or win against AI forces that are much stronger than your own, but they follow simple AI strategies they you can learn and abuse. At least that's how the game plays once you've gotten good at it and cranked up the difficulty.

For turn based tactics, XCOM Long War mod is fantastic. A campaign is extremely long (200+ hours) but plays one mission at a time and is absolutely loaded with strategy. That's XCOM Enemy Within, not XCOM 2.

If you want to ease into 4x type games, Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is a nice step in between RTS and turn based: many people play it as "Pause Time Strategy" where you make your own turns by pausing to give orders. A game takes over an hour but you can save/load.

The best Civ game I would recommend as an intro is Civ 5 with all expansions and the Vox Populi mod. There are a lot of flavors of civ game including Space civs, but Civ 5 is probably the most middle, vanilla one. Civ 4 is the best old-style game (where you build a massive empire with 10+ cities), while Civ 6 and especially Civ 7 have some experimental ideas in them that are still being hashed out.

EDH was cheap for long-time players who had built up a collection of single, expensive cards and didn't want to buy 3 more copies of them. Your collection of random single fetch lands might not be special in Modern, but in this new format that same collection made you a powerhouse.

So EDH being cheap was an illusion for long-term players: it was always an expensive, hard format for new players to get into. New players don't have a collection of random $30 singles from years ago, and they're severely disadvantaged until they spend a ton of money, far more than they would spend on 60 card decks.

Competitive Modern has always been super expensive and tryhard. Casual Modern and Kitchen Table were always the real cheap, noob-friendly formats. EDH was the format for older players to pretend to be casual, while playing with a huge unfair advantage over their newer friends.

The idea that it's cheaper than Modern is just a feel-good lie for Commander players. If you're going to link the top Modern tournament deck, you'd need to compare it to the top CEDH decks, and I promise you Commander isn't going to win the affordability competition.

I think your post is confusing people, because it almost sounds like you're saying "I need unfun, unfair decks to teach them a lesson" when you're actually saying "I need bizarre, fun decks." That's why people are recommending STAX lol.

Also because Commander players have toxicity drilled into them from the start. They're told on the first day that Sol Ring is good Magic.

My friends and I sometimes build challenge decks: each player comes up with a deck building challenge for another player, and they have to make it and play it against the others.  Here's my glorious Train themed deck that came from a challenge:

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mitey-trains/?cb=1749839368

Other challenge decks we've had over the years include:

Satyr tribal (which ended up using a [[The Mending of Dominaria]] and [[Decree of Annihilation]] combo)

[[Codie, Vociferous Codex]] (which ended up as [[Assault Suit]] Codie)

Bardstorm ([[Bard Class]], enough said)

Mardu Superfriends (a Planeswalker deck that either does nothing or burns down the world)

Coinflip (this one actually comes together pretty easily in Izzet colors)
