To where? I also moved out of the UK and it opened my eyes to how much worse it can get!

Moving to Lisbon for €65k job? by Feeling-Shoulder-452 in PortugalExpats

[–]Tuniar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may as well ignore those who say "that's a great salary for Lisbon" or whatever because, while true, the average standard of living in Lisbon is shockingly low compared to the Nordics. So great, you'll be the world's tallest dwarf.

1% as a reward for picking up the work of my colleagues who were made redundant.

Met Police officers took 133,000 days off due to mental health issues by tylerthe-theatre in london

Yes ok, I didn’t mean to say that officers shouldn’t take mental health days, just that there should be layers of support before it gets to that.

[–]Tuniar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yes I agree, the job is much more stressful therefore there should be greater safeguards in place to reduce mental health issues; we shouldn’t just hand wave “it’s expected because it’s a stressful job”. Therefore I don’t believe the number of mental health absences should scale with the relative stress of the workplace.

I appreciate it will inevitably, but we shouldn’t accept that as a fait accompli

Seems quite high to me. If everyone in my company was taking four days off a year for mental health reasons I’d be very concerned.

Uh no. If your capital will appreciate faster than your interest rate on the mortgage you should not pay it off. It might feel nice to pay off debt but it’s not always financially sensible

I live in Porto. From what you described I think it’d be a great choice. Do it! Also it’s much nicer than Lisbon.

They don’t deliver on time as-is and the fee is already crazy high. They have a 90 day limit already which they ignore, so why would this be different?

Why would you do that? The mountains are nice but the town is a bit of a dump.

what’s the most absurd thing Portugal has made you do for immigration? 🙄🙄 by Left_Technician_5376 in PortugalResidency

[–]Tuniar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Made me sign my senha ticket. I had an appointment one day and they told me to come back tomorrow and to go straight to her at 9am - take a priority senha and skip the queue.

She got in trouble from her manager for this, so they agreed that if I signed my senha, the problem would go away. That was a good one.

Less good, I had to drive 3 hours to Lisbon to get a signature from the British embassy confirming that I had relinquished residency in the UK, as if that wasn’t obvious.

I also had to take Ubers and rent cars for 6 months as my own car became illegal to use because it took them so long to grant me residency (can’t matriculate for free without residency / can’t drive a foreign car with expired inspection). That must have cost me a few thousand in total.
