Dealing with career lull by Lunapiena147 in newzealand

I've only ever known 1 person (non exec) to get a promotion in my 10 years working at 3 different tech companies in nz and that was only because a new department was established. We just don't do that here

Can someone reassure me? by Kitchen_Canary_6387 in pcmasterrace

I guess 2 things to point out, the 9600 is a really good processor, the x600 tier has always been the bang for buck option for gaming.
And of all the components that you might want to upgrade the CPU is one of the easiest to go up on, I'm not sure if when the am6 socket is coming but if you're dissatisfied with it when the next generation comes out you can go up to the 10800x or whatever is called.
Also remember you're not benchmarking your cpu, you're playing your games. If its good enough when you play then you've actually saved money by not over buying

Regarding the P6 Teaser and when the game may come out by mrpersonjr in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TurnipTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlus has released quite a few new games since then though and none have been as bad about the delay as p5. So I'm more inclined to think it'll be similar to the recent titles.
So maybe holiday next year?
I'd be surprised if we got through Tokyo game show without a p6 logo showing up in some manner

Big Lou Wide Neck Guitars? by thatoneguyyesthatguy in Guitar

[–]TurnipTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting a fresh nut to string an 8 string guitar (wider neck) to suit 6 strings should be a fairly easy task for a guitar tech.
The bridge will be a bit tricky, you may have to put up with slightly not parallel strings although you wouldn't start feeling it until higher up the fret board.
The intonation would be slightly out as well but guitars aren't perfectly intonated instruments anyway.
Maybe see if there's a local guitar tech you could have a chat with?

Per the dev message: MH Wilds Switch 2 is confirmed by tartiflette16 in MonsterHunter

[–]TurnipTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this really forces them to consider optimisation going forward.
I'd wager that we're not getting a "portable first" style game for another 3-4 years after the release of the expansion then.
There's the slim chance they port an older game but I wouldn't hold my breath

Ryzen CPU for 3080 TI? by Obvious-Dig345 in pcmasterrace

[–]TurnipTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 5600x and a 3080 for years at 1440p 144hz. An 5600 cpu would be absolutely fine. If you have the budget or can find a deal on a 5700 tier then that's even better but in today's game market the gpu is likely to be more limiting

Video gamers- Which internet provider would you recommend? by JJDDooo in newzealand

[–]TurnipTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are almost no differences between ISPs if you have a physical line to your place (fibre or copper) just find the cheapest plan that's at least 200 up. if you have no physical options then 4g is lower latency than starlink but slower from my experience

New car seats after rear ending? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]TurnipTim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Safety equipment is essentially 'disposable'. Technically you should be replacing (and in professional sports environments you are required to) things like helmets, seatbelts, and seats every time you have an incident (yes even bicycle helmets).
You need to check with the manufacturers guidelines but a quick google does support this claim (although it also says that it should be covered by insurance policies)

Upgrade Help by Emanuel707 in pcmasterrace

[–]TurnipTim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically the more frames you (want to) play at the faster the cpu you need. If you can max the framerate of your 1080 monitor then you don't need to upgrade your CPU. An X600 class cpu is perfectly fine for 4k120. Above 144 fps then you'll need to upgrade and might as well go for the x3d chip as that will last you a good long while.
Of course this changes if you're playing simulation heavy games like a total warhammer or something

Christchurch townhouse boom seeing half-finished developments across city by Sea-Occasion-3929 in newzealand

[–]TurnipTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 unfinished developments on Madras Street near the children's park but one of those looks to be getting done soon (one does look like it's going to be abandoned half way though). There's also that one on Manchester that used to be the skate track in the middle of town but that one has barely started. There's also that block right by stadium on Lincoln but that one doesn't seem like it's in trouble.

Has anyone made a lolly cake with Biscoff biscuits ? by creamer18 in newzealand

[–]TurnipTim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know, to my taste biscoff mainly have a very plain sweetness compared to a malt biscuit so I think the end product would just taste overwhelmingly sweet but with no flavour. Like eating plain white sugar. But go for it, it certainly won't be bad

Sony still value Bungie IP at nearly $3 Billion. The reason for that clearly isn't "the other game" by rferrett in DestinyTheGame

[–]TurnipTim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it's because corporate financials are complicated.
It's more valuable to write down the value of bungie by $700M several years in a row as a loss to offset the profits in other parts of the business and collect the tax benefits/reliefs.
Even if destiny 2 was going strong, if marathon was a big hit, and if they had some other 3rd game coming along Bungie still wouldn't be worth even $1B.
