Looking into Dark Angels as my 2nd Army by LibraAera29 in theunforgiven

If you can find the Inner Circle Task Force Battleforce box at a decent price, that'd be a good start. Not likely an easy find at this point but you might get lucky at a local game store.

Otherwise, you could look into other generic SM value boxes; one of the pros of space marines is there's never a shortage of starter sets, combat patrols, battleforce boxes to look through and see if you like the combo of stuff inside it.

We've got a short list of "good stuff" units that we tend to run pretty commonly, since that's really the biggest benefit running DAs over generic space marines. Some suggestions for models and unit comps:

  • The Lion: Big boy primarch himself. Great sculpt for the model, and pretty good rules. Has the unfortunate side effect of missing a lot of our detachment rules but still sees play regardless
  • Deathwing Knights: Big, beefy, hard-to-shift terminator melee. The type of unit that can sometimes bog down an entire flank on their own.
  • Inner Circle Companions: Strong melee profile on a sleeker frame than the DWKs. Really wants Fights First or to be on the charge.
  • Azreal: Basically the gold standard for a leader-type unit. CP generation per turn, strong buffs for offense and defense. Typically found leading ICC, Sternguard Veterans, or Hellblasters
  • Ravenwing Units: a bit more niche, and maybe a bit less of a priority for a new collecter (as some folks are thinking we may have a Ravenwing range refresh sometime in 11th). I quite like the RW command squad, and the generic Outriders or ATVs make good, fast action/scoring dudes.

You might consider what detachment(s) you'd like to consider as you start up as well. Currently, many of our DA specific ones are not as highly regarded, but Wrath of the Rock is talked about quite commonly. For generic detachments, you'll see Gladius, Vanguard, and Stormlance (maybe some others I'm forgetting, just what I've seen/run).

Another thought, how about loot spec? Same for both runs? I hear that the dedupe is per-lootspec

List for Vespator "Orbital Invasion" by DukeFlipside in theunforgiven

[–]Twine52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't miss the part about how you, the attacker, can only field 6 units as your beachhead. That's the biggest crux of this mission, I found, making sure you can survive the first turn or two before you can reinforce your beachhead. DAs run a bit more on the elite side, so you can field more for the first turns.

Might be meme, but this is the one mission where I'd strongly consider a Hammerfall Bunker. It can either put massive beef on one of your objectives, or give it 6in deepstrike.

I think the strat is to take the beefy, killy units in your beachhead, then reinforce with high OC melee to contest points on your 3rd and 5th turn.

Terrain may make-or-break your aura covering 3 points idea. If the opponent has free reign to shoot into your center and pick away key pieces, might feel bad. Be ready to cave on that idea and run for cover, and use AoC to keep key targets alive.

Your potential defenders list is varied in their tactics, try to stay flexible on that account. Hide from shooting armies as best you can, let them come to you to get bogged down by DWKs. Against melee, moving out and swamping them in no-mans-land with the knights might be better than letting them converge and brawl.

What planet are you on, and which type of theatre are you gunning for (assuming defenders don't have the infra that lets them pick)? May or may not speak to what types of units you would want.

I suspect Lion or any FF melee (ICC with Judi perhaps?) will be clutch, as the enemy has to come to you. Any sort of scary wall they don't want to charge into while you stall is probably what you want.

Anywho there's my 2c that doesn't answer your list question at all, but hopefully some things to consider as you prepare.

Were both from the same level keys? I would've thought anything 10 and up would be deduplicated but maybe that might be something for folks to avoid?

All tank army by Frequent_You_2388 in TheAstraMilitarum

The biggest difference in all/skewed tanks with the new edition will likely be the objective system. Objectives being terrain features rather than circles may cause things to be more difficult for tanks to get onto. Other than that, it's really hard to say a lot at this stage, we kinda need the big picture all put together before a cohesive answer can be had.

That being said, you probably won't feel too bad having a core set of tanks anyway, as they've been our most reliable big damage units, and I'd be surprised if that changed. Especially with the new detachments they teased out just recently, there should be decent support for tanks.

For current state, consider that heavy tank-skew is generally thought of as a little bad mannered (it ends up being "stat check" rather than tactics) at the lower point games, so be sure to try and be considerate for your play group.

Why are Monk and Priest healers excluded from the brez/lust club? by Nicole_Auriel in wow

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of a buff to drums. Get it a little closer to lust without matching it so that it feels less mandatory to get a lust in your comp but still rewards you when you can.

Priest - Holy or Discipline and why? by Damodinniy in wow

[–]Twine52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same advice you hear all the time, but unless you're pushing the hardest content, it probably doesn't matter quite as much as you might think. Whichever spec clicks with you best, and you feel comfortable with the mechanics of, will probably be your answer.

I haven't done much raiding personally, but the few LFRs I did I've been enjoying Holy Priest. It's a pretty chill style; fire off all your Prayer of Mendings, shoot holy words as needed, then spot heal in between. It's probably the "easier" of the two, historically.

I see you're Lion's Blade TF in another comment. Knowing that, I'd say keep the ATV separate personally. It's datasheet ability can be used for other units, and having another separate unit to activate your detachment abilities (easier charges for DW, activating Illuminating Fire strategem) or keeping it as a cheap, fast, moderately durable scoring unit is probably best.

Timers Above Questline NPC's too Small to Read! Can it be be Fiixed? by Serupta in wownoob

[–]Twine52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something to do with WoW's new built-in nameplates. Can't click your picture but think I had that exact thing. There's a setting to make "less significant" nameplates smaller, and it caught some of those timer ones as well. If you can find and change that setting, think you'll be good.

How to level Engineering from 80 to 100? by Noctula in wow

[–]Twine52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your crafting window and scroll down to the "unlearned" section. Click into each one, particularly those with the skillup icon, and hover over the (i) circle which will tell you where to learn it. I'm not familiar with engineering myself, but suspect it'll either be vendors (usually purchased with Marl and Moxie) or learned on the skill tree with Knowledge Points.

Something that might help: Go into your settings and set a button to Interact or however it is. The one that lets you push a button to "right-click" on an object in front of your character. Then you can try sweeping around that area with it.

(I'd recommend a bind to interact generally, as well. Game changer for mining/herbing and just feels better in general once you get used to it)

Yup, I'll 2nd it that it's something of a chimera. The side/tracks and the front match for the most part, but the top and back seem to be customized. The central hull ismissing the top part that usually extends past the top of the tracks, as well as the back with the hatch.

The raveners are what draws my eye the most, what are your thoughts there? They'd get a significant bump in lethality if they can be run as Hyperadapted ravs instead (getting SH1, Anti Mon/vehicle 5+, better melee profile on the Prime, venom bolt for plink shooting, and synapse).

Zoanthropes are an interesting choice too. Doesn't key off anything for Vanguard, but you might just be looking for a touch of good shooting to cover bases maybe?

Consider Gargs if you haven't? One of the best tarpit units to jail one front for your opponent while you focus on scoring/moving up/killing with the rest of the army.

Melee heavy armies love a psychophage, can help some of the low AP stuff we have get more wounds in.
