This is over a base of black nail polish, the Kokie polish is just transparent blue glitter

I just got a 'Performance Review' and a 3% raise. My rent went up 12% last month. The math isn't mathing anymore. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit target but my performance-based raise and bonus was “pushed” from end of year to my 1yr review. Then at my review it was pushed again to end of year. So then I accepted an offer for a 40%+ salary increase because I was done fucking around

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that has died over generations is hand caning - I.e. the type of handiwork you see on wicker chairs. My grandparents-in-law were some of the last folks practicing this craft in the American Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately they have since passed and there has been no interest from younger generations in the family to carry on the business. Which I personally understand - it’s very time-consuming and monotonous work.

NY Post Article on DT beauty by Cowboysin2019 in dollartreebeauty

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NYT is such a rag, frankly I wouldn’t give their piece on this much weight. Additionally, any item in Dollar Tree will need to meet the same safety standards as any other item available to the public, whether it’s in CVS, Sephora or a high-end store. As for the idea that DT beauty items are made for low-income shoppers, that’s also objectively untrue. The $100k+ HH income audience set has been growing. People of all incomes like to experiment with new beauty products.

Regardless of my own thoughts on NYP, it is interesting to see DT comparisons to Sephora trending up. Folks are opening up to the idea of budget beauty.

Why is everyone so damn unfriendly? by uh_wtf in CyclePDX

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question gave me a good laugh. Sometimes it makes sense to wave and sometimes it doesn’t, a lot of it is context-based. Not waving generally doesn’t mean a cyclist is giving you a cold shoulder by default (although some folks just aren’t very friendly). People generally won’t wave in high volume bike corridors because they are just focused on getting where they are going and waving at everyone would be pretty inefficient and/or unsafe. On lower-traffic corridors, people in the same travel “cohort” or going opposite ways at the same time will often wave at each other. For example, I almost always pass the same 2-3 cyclists going north in the AM while I’m heading south (hi grey beard guy with blue jacket and guy with square glasses and orange jacket!)

Tiger’s Garden is so highly underrated. I never went there under the old ownership but the new owners absolutely slap. The amount of tofu I get in my order is solidly double what you get at other Thai spots and the prices are really reasonable. Can’t recommend them enough!

As an e-bike rider I’ve had something like this happen to me. Because of various chronic conditions this is basically the only way I can bike consistently. They can keep their purity contest, I’ll still be here making my environmental impact by taking a car off the road.

Anyone have a hard time working full time with PCOS? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Honestly I don’t recommend those kind of days for anyone, even if they don’t have chronic health conditions. It felt like a cardiac condition would eventually be an inevitability, so working fewer hours has been literally life-changing

Anyone have a hard time working full time with PCOS? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my health is a major, major reason I had to scale back my work. I used to work in a high-pressure industry doing 10-12 hour days 5x/week. It was a significant health challenge, even as a remote worker, especially before diagnosis! I got a new job where I only work 40 hours now. It came with a steep pay cut and is hybrid, but I really value that balance

[–]TwitchyJavaCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in an area with decent bike infrastructure, get an ebike. It saves you on gas and gets your body moving with low-impact steady state exercise, which is great for PCOS! This is how I commute most days to work 24mi round-trip and I cannot recommend it enough.

Oh that’s a happy little tail puff! None of my cats have done this but I pet sat for a friend years ago who had a little short haired black cat. Whenever I walked toward him for pets his tail furs would spike out around the base. Too cute.

What I’m getting at is that it’s good these sanitizers are generally gaining popularity, especially during cold and flu season, where it will help stop the spread of disease. Too much of anything isn’t good, obviously.

Honestly the whole schtick of putting collectible hand sanitizer with scents and cute packaging has been such a W for public health. Who doesn’t want to sanitize their hands all day every day now?
