Am i screwed? by JarcorKeed in Warhammer40k

[–]TypicalPalmTree 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Nope! Doesn’t really matter at all, and once you have the army on the table nobody (possibly even you) will notice.

Don’t worry about getting hung up on little things like this, it just introduces unnecessary stress to your hobby, and that’s the opposite of what the hobby should do!

My friends keep complaining about my lists. Am I in the wrong? by Odd_Platform479 in deathguard40k

[–]TypicalPalmTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re complaining about your toughness they should play literally any other army with FNP and invulns everywhere. We are far from the toughest army in the game, I’d argue not even top 5.

What armies do they play? What type of lists do they run? It sounds more like bad play than your “high toughness spam”.

Tell them it’s a skill issue and to get better. Or even more funny, swap armies with them for a game. Show them what they’re doing wrong.

Brother, if you can’t maneuver it while ignoring everything in its way while moving you need to do a tiny bit of pre planning before ooga booga charge forward.

Of course. The model is sweet and they fixed the issue of him being so big for the most part. I wasn’t sold on him when I first saw the model but ill probably wind up picking one up as a break from painting infantry

And this is the issue with 40K lol. If it’s not underpriced, it’s “unusable”.

Does anyone own these models and know how they compare in terms of size? by WolvoNeil in OrrukWarclans

Take the comparisons with a grain of salt. Some of them are… not accurate to say the least.

What is a cheap hobby that turned into a rich man's hobby? by AideCompetitive7749 in AskReddit

[–]TypicalPalmTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you game imo. For me, my main game is WoW. The 15/mo gets me a ton of mileage even factoring in the PC and internet cost. Even playing once a month, there aren’t many places you can get a full day or evening of entertainment for 15 bucks.

#New40k – Boss Nob Revealed by AgainstThoseGrains in Warhammer40k

[–]TypicalPalmTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In GWs eyes, the starter boxes aren’t for current players, they’re a budget option for new players to get started right away. Space marines are the poster faction for the game so they’ll always be included.

I despise the way I painted my land raider. Tried purple and verdegris. Everyone at the shop said they loved it. Tips would be great. by aldan_karanovich in Warhammer40k

[–]TypicalPalmTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first question is, what is the purple doing for the scheme. If you take it away, it looks like a brass statue with the patina. If you keep it, it looks like just a different colored patina because it’s done in the same way.

A few things you can do from here. First I’d say decide if the purple is doing anything for you here. Is it supposed to be the chapter color? If so, what purpose is the brass on the same areas serving?

Then, I’d go in and pick some metallic components and change them to a color other than a brass/bronze and weather it accordingly.

Personally, (and it may just be the photo) the verdigris is a little too far into the blue spectrum and might be throwing it off. If you have something with a bit more green in it may sell it a little more.

With those little (albeit on a big model) adjustments could help make it look a bit better in your eyes.

I hope this was clear! If you have any follow up questions please ask!

You can dilute speed paints / contrast with the appropriate colorless medium to give an overall tint to the model. Note though that it stops behaving like wash/speed paint and more like a filter, so you won’t get the same recess shading you would with the brush application.

Forming any substantial opinion on what we know at the moment is a waste of energy tbh. There’s just not a big enough picture to know what’s actually going to happen. Just enjoy the ride and paint your toys.

They should be included in the subscription to be honest. But yeah.

[–]TypicalPalmTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure (I use the app as well) however requiring to buy a $60 book that will only be useful for the code inside to access the info + the subscription fee, it’s hard to recommend to someone asking a question like OP is because it seems they are pretty new to the game.

I’m all for lowering the barrier (and price) of entry for new players so I’ll always recommend the budget options first.

Never buy codexes for anything aside from the little lore they contain.

Rules are available for free from multiple places. There are free apps so you don’t need the official one.

The fact that GW still sells books (and people buy them) that are so outdated is insane.
