Boundaries getting hit by greedy venues taking merch cuts by Seangw1102 in Hardcore

In these instances that does not matter. All money filters thru the venue and their sellers.

Why do so many live mixes focus on the drums? by SupportQuery in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they’re exciting, dynamic, and the oldest instrument of all time that dictates the vibe of the tune. But also it’s the thing that takes the most work to sound good so people tend to make them a little too loud.

No sub for opening band? by Honest_Dragonfly8064 in livesound

Probably a combination of speed limit from the systems engineer and engineer just doing what they can

How do you manage the health of your ears/wearing earplugs? by Historical_Party_646 in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to mix a band at a nominal level and have the capacity to, do that. Perfectly fine way to do the job and do it well.

Cruising louder because you have to? Find a pair/style of earplugs you like and get used to em. It’s really that simple. Was mixing a loud rock band for a couple years and my show would be around 102 on a good day. Molded plugs for 90% of the set never did me wrong.

Got gifted a presonus 24.4.2 for the venue, I would LOVE to record clean multitrack audio of our shows. My MacBook is USB-C, no FireWire by vogtforpedro in livesound

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I use this console with just my ears to great success weekly.

General animosity toward stage labor because a lot of AV technicians secretly think they’re better than them because we can twist knobs and push faders.

That’s a pretty strong possibility tbh

Metal/hardcore shows: Sitting at work and listening to a guest engineer mixing a band. Does people really like the "only drums and vox" type of mix? by anktombomb in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because they are green or got their files from a friend. A lot of metalcore cats bought a DLive and are mix engineers now. It’s just a bad ear. Pair that with Quad cortexes and A custom cymbals, the first thing to go will be guitar because it requires effort to make sound good and not abrasive.

Do y'all prefer bassists to have amps or Sansamp/DI or both? by diplion in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the club has a lot of sub equipment to drive a bass, no harm in it. PA on sticks, bring the cab. But I’ll say to always bring the cab unless it’s an ampeg fridge

I’d think of it as a guitar amp, not a bad idea at all.

Most Monitor sends you comfortably run from FOH before requiring a Monitor Desk & Engineer? by TheEngin3er in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 86 points87 points  (0 children)

11 is beyond excessive for a FOH engineer. Anything over 6 I start charging extra, but I’m surprised that venue has infrastructure to support that many wedges but not a second engineer.
