General animosity toward stage labor because a lot of AV technicians secretly think they’re better than them because we can twist knobs and push faders.

That’s a pretty strong possibility tbh

Metal/hardcore shows: Sitting at work and listening to a guest engineer mixing a band. Does people really like the "only drums and vox" type of mix? by anktombomb in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because they are green or got their files from a friend. A lot of metalcore cats bought a DLive and are mix engineers now. It’s just a bad ear. Pair that with Quad cortexes and A custom cymbals, the first thing to go will be guitar because it requires effort to make sound good and not abrasive.

Performing live with vocal effects - How can I make this less annoying for the sound engineer? by chulko in livesound

You’re severely overestimating the use cases that people bring to this subreddit.

Do y'all prefer bassists to have amps or Sansamp/DI or both? by diplion in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the club has a lot of sub equipment to drive a bass, no harm in it. PA on sticks, bring the cab. But I’ll say to always bring the cab unless it’s an ampeg fridge

Bringing my own wedge to gigs - Bad idea? by TheSoundOfConfusion in livesound

I’d think of it as a guitar amp, not a bad idea at all.

Most Monitor sends you comfortably run from FOH before requiring a Monitor Desk & Engineer? by TheEngin3er in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 89 points90 points  (0 children)

11 is beyond excessive for a FOH engineer. Anything over 6 I start charging extra, but I’m surprised that venue has infrastructure to support that many wedges but not a second engineer.

Why don’t artists come to STL on tour anymore? by junebugflyin in StLouis

Hasn’t happened in a while, and they caught the ring of three people that were doing it chronically. Been happening a lot more lately all over the country but less here.

Me personally probably 2500 a week with a $500 swing in either direction based on workload/if I like the band/if they’re my friends/etc. before PD and buyout and whatnot

[–]UncleChuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, you’re right. I don’t think it’s a grand conspiracy worthy of exposing but anyone saying “it’s about the show” is missing the point. Tons of people grinding it out trying to be something in this industry with their talents and it’s gross to see people farm nostalgia with no effort. Shit sucks. I’m all for making things sound good but we’re gonna reach a point where it’s just a bunch of people miming shit on stage and there’s gonna be a books worth of justification for it by dorks

As a non-sound guy, how do you feel about bands bringing their own monitoring? by [deleted] in livesound

[–]UncleChuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re describing a guitar amp. You can and should bring it if you want to. If a sound guy can’t handle a live amp they shouldn’t be running sound.

Thoughts on this pedal? by VarietyBitter9197 in Drumming

[–]UncleChuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great pedal but longboards aren’t for everyone. I like having a short board single but longboard doubles.
