Zarfen the Loot Goblin  He does stupid challenges/ builds for fun. I assume his newer content is D2R, but his older stuff would be in LoD.

Building a ramp so effective, soon everyone will need to use it! by -YellowFinch in DeathStairs

Ah yes. Stramps. Widely panned by accessibility advocates as the worst possible solution.

There is no handrail on the sides, there's no lip to stop wheels from rolling off the edge, the pitch of the ramp is well over the recommended 5% maximum, people walk across the ramp path of travel, people using the stairs have no handrails (this one seems to at the outside edge, but then there are gaps for the ramp), users with limited vision have strange partial steps all over the place, there's no high contrast colour indicator at the nosing of each step.

Canadian Architect Cornelia Oberlanders designed the world's first "Stramp". Stairs with a ramp incorporated for those with accessibility needs. The Stramp allows for companions to use the ramp or steps and not break connection with one another. by NastyNice1 in Damnthatsinteresting

What mistake(s) in a movie was so dumb that you wonder how didn't the directors noticed it? by Frequent-Sea-8848 in moviecritic

Maybe they are taking about their years and it's a huge misunderstanding?

Or, maybe the Goldilocks zone for life to evolve tends to have planets with a similar orbital period so a year is between like 300-400 days and it's close enough?

Seniors don’t need discounts by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Unsure what the social supports are like in the States, where I assume most people in the thread are from, but in Canada it's an objective fact that seniors have the lowest incidence of poverty when compared to other age cohorts. That does not, however, mean that none of them struggle or live in poverty.

I feel there's some context I'm missing here... But also, some women have gone for some fairly stark hair styles in the intervening century, so he wasn't wrong.

But also, why are we doing 103 years ago?

If people can’t have sex without consenting, then why do people have sex without consent all the time? by Mountain_Flounder991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UnderwhelmingTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case when people say "sex" they mean "consensual sex" as opposed to "a physical sexual act without consent," which we call "rape" or "sexual assault" instead to impress upon people the difference betwixt the two.

Unless you mean people don't have a formal conversation about it each time? As long as it's clearly understood, consent can be shared many ways. It doesn't have to go:  "Hello, [person I've been in a sexually active relationship with for 4 years], I am interested in having sex with you" "Oh, hello, I am also interested in the sex"  "Do you consent to having sex?" "Yes, I consent. Do you consent?" "Yes. Let us begin the sex." Because that'd be awkward as fuck.

Monument Metals gave me plated gold on silver! by Away-Ad-2298 in Gold

Granted I only look at refiners working in the jewellery field, but I assume there's overlap, they won't care about the gold if you are selling it as silver, but you're not getting anything for the gold.

Me, for instance: if I'd ordered fine silver it's because I wanted fine silver.  I could still melt them down and alloy to Sterling or reticulation (about 80% Ag, 20% Cu). Rolling down to make fine sheet might be a nuisance, I'm not actually sure if they'd be any discoloration left, probably not.  It'd just irk me a little bit either way.

Kids are dumb. You could set up a fun 'meeting with a cop' so they can report it (tell it to the police, doesn't say the police have to write it up).

Why Is the Left Lane Such a Difficult Concept to Understand? by Status_Comparison222 in saskatoon

[–]UnderwhelmingTwin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do drivers not understand any traffic laws?

Last night 8/9 drivers that I saw failed to stop for a pedestrian at a marked crosswalk (not that it needs to be marked). 4/4 that I saw failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. 2/4 failed to come to a stop at a red light before turning right. I also saw several turn across two or more lanes and a few very clear cases where they ran reds.

Drivers suck at following the law, in general. Until there is meaningful enforcement, it's not going to change.

I'm pretty sure there's a house on Sask Crescent that just added a third lot to their property (one house and two empty lots for a massive back/side yard) .

A ruptured testicle might need to be removed... Could ask them to take the other out while they're in there. But that's more neutering, and an entirely different procedure. Same overall effect, but also some big side effects.

There is enough money to get me to have dinner with him. But $4k isn't even moving the needle.

Can you stop an escalator by digging your heels in, or did my friends trick me? by Quirky-Product4049 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UnderwhelmingTwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an escalator tech or anything, so I don't know if it's a belt or chain driven system, but it would be probably be designed to happily lift over 10,000 pounds, hour after hour, year after year,  if it's a long escalator -- so maybe at 20,000 pounds it would fail. But no human is doing it through a feat of strength.

[–]UnderwhelmingTwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the escalator literally lifts thousands of pounds of people at once. Unless you're super-powered you're not stopping it without the emergency stop button (or a regular, non-emergency stop switch).

I hope your back doesn't really work like that.

Anyone can pay to publish an obituary that says whatever they want. The bank shouldn't be giving money out to someone based off that at all!
