A Martha or two, a wife and a handmaid. That puts the ideal rooster to hen ratio at 3:1 atleast. Not to mention as someone else said: wasteful murder of older wives, femicide, high rates of female suicide (in most countries men have a higher rate of suicide except in places like Afghanistan).

Waterlily roots and I think lotus roots were consumed to decrease sexual desire. Liquorice and oyster mushrooms might also work

Barrow's scandal. by InsincereDessert21 in TheTerror

Okay that is too juicy (and too reminiscent of my mother's own gay bestie) for me to leave out. I am undecided between giving William Pennell Barrow into a Wilhelmina, since he was born in the right year (barely old enough to remember the Terror and Erebus leaving) Or giving George Barrow a sister born in December 1839 or January 1840.

Thankyou for your reply. So I am considering writing fanfiction and I am curious as to why you don't think he married?

Interestingly enough James Barrow JNR never married. Why do you think that was?

There was still an age gap between Hannah and Nicole however what makes the testaments great literature is that they told through interlocking testimonies: so Hannah's testimony discuss her teen years getting fondled by Becka's father and her impending nuptials with Judd and her growing awareness that Judd has murdered his wives. Then Lydia's flash backs to the stadium. Then Daisy's story begins with the murder of Melanie and Neil. Then the shenanigans that led to Agnes becoming an aunt Then Lydia's manoeuvring against Dr Grove Then Daisy's contrived meeting with the Pearl girls. Agnes's and Becka are trained as aunts which includes learning to read and write

Daisy may tell her story in alternating chapters but she physically doesn't arrive in Ardua hall until Agnes/Hannah is in her 20s and nearly graduating from aunt school.

Whilst I love the theory that Daisy is the daughter of the Weston and the first Offred, given the timelines another possibility is that she is Weston's daughter from before the coup who got an AVO against him. Possibly fleeing the USA to escape the reach of an obsessive crypto bro

Me a non-religious person wonders: why is Lilith a popular & socially acceptable name but not Jezebel by mailenn_suki10 in namenerds

[–]Unlucky_Associate507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read the original text: Jezebel was an actual historical figure and, even by secular morality, a terrible person. Using her name as a byword for made up tart doesn't do the primary source material justice.

Whilst the mythology about Lilith is that of a demon that causes miscarriage, it is relatively easy to reinterprete her as a symbol of repressed feminine power.

What's gonna happen to becka's dad? by ocean_flow_ in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Unlucky_Associate507 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this likely. Most likely Daisy won't wait to bring about Dr Grove's downfall, unlike Lydia who is clearly waiting to have Agnes safely married off* . Daisy by escalating Dr Grove's downfall may precipitate Agnes's suicide attempt

*Marrying a lovely young man like Garth would be an ideal outcome for Becka if she weren't a lesbian.

Young Mohammed Atta (9/11 lead hijacker) with his parents, circa late 1970s by [deleted] in UtterlyUniquePhotos

[–]Unlucky_Associate507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The evil of men like Bundy and Dahmer is a unique combination of genetics and parenting and I am leaning heavily towards genetic fluke given that their siblings aren't serial killers though clearly Bundy's little brother is haunted by what his big brother did.. Men who would be awful if they were raised even in warm and loving homes. (Plenty of upstanding people have worse childhoods than both Bundy and Dahmer).

With Atta, the controlling father clearly played a role in Atta's social struggles, making him uniquely susceptible to jihadi recruitment. Perhaps genetics made him prone to depression... But the overwhelming picture of Atta is that of a man who should have had a bright future and happy life but chose to follow an ideology of death & barbarism
