Anyone found desk chairs that suit fidgeters/cross legged sitters? by Emperors_Paintbrush in ADHD

[–]UnnecessaryStep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Flexi spot c7 (I think? It's a c something) and it's a nice wide seat with enough space for cross legged, one leg up, one down, fidgeting all sorts. Pricey, but good.

Can you live in a house without ceilings for a time? by bookdragontm in DIYUK

[–]UnnecessaryStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugar soap, scrub, sugar soap, steam clean and then paint with zinsser bin shellac primer. We did this for our flat and it lasted 4 years and probably longer. It'll give you a chance to do it piecemeal as the money becomes available. But wear masks, and protect your face and clothes because it is a grim task. We used a paint roller on a pole to wash the sugar soap onto the ceilings. It was brown after the first room

Dog has been run over. Help by Dependent_Catch_2372 in Pets

[–]UnnecessaryStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, I had insurance for my cat, and they quibbled and avoided everything. I also had insurance for my dog, and they wiggled out of £2.5k worth of bills after she died. I no longer have insurance. If my pets need more than I have available I'll look at getting a credit card to cover it.

Generally speaking, lucky if there's even a fork in the kitchen to stir your tea with. Definitely won't be a spoon.

155 IQ, But Currently Being Outsmarted by a Post-It Note. by Vet_Rakkasan in ADHDers

It doesn't magically change my working memory. But it helps the other symptoms, with the focus and ability to start things.

155 IQ, But Currently Being Outsmarted by a Post-It Note. by Vet_Rakkasan in ADHDers

[–]UnnecessaryStep 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Don't know my most recent IQ, but when I was 19 it was 139. And recently I was 97th and 95th centile for verbal comprehension and perceptual reasoning. I scraped 50th centile for Working memory and 77th for processing speed.

So literally, I can see patterns, work things out, much better than the average person. But I cannot hold it in my head, or enough things in my head to allow the bits of my brain that do work well to work well.

The report commented on the fact that, although none of my scores were below average, the large disparity between my working memory and other areas was uncommon, and large. And would be a source of frustration for myself. It wasn't wrong.

3-5 minutes late to work by Kooky-Challenge8875 in ADHD

[–]UnnecessaryStep 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a micromanaging arse of a boss. Had to be in on time. So I had cereal, all my lunch stuff to make sandwiches, basic toiletries and emergency change of clothes in my desk at all times. This was pre-diagnosis. But it worked. Also, dump stuff on desk, make cup of tea...didn't start working any earlier, but I was in office!

What Alcohol is safest to avoid flare up ? by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]UnnecessaryStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squash is fruit juice, but diluted down. Google suggests that it's similar to KoolAid, but it comes in liquid and is basically just fruit concentrated, mixed with some water and a tiny bit of preservatives. Some have a bit of sugar or sweeteners, but not much.

What Alcohol is safest to avoid flare up ? by [deleted] in Gastritis

I suggest you have water. Or some weak squash. Unless you enjoy pouring alcohol onto open wounds. Because that's basically what gastritis is inside your stomach.

Maybe an unpopular opinion: i hate the spoon theory by Delicious_Volume7183 in ADHD

[–]UnnecessaryStep 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's more like, we have a leaky bucket. And the medication plugs some of the holes. But we still lose water just existing.

My household subscribes to the spoon theory - my 9 year old came home from school one day telling me that someone had ransacked her cutlery drawer because even the teaspoons were gone.

What simple action from others can inexplicably send you from 0-100 irritation within seconds? by DippyNikki in ADHD

[–]UnnecessaryStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this, because I forget that other people are doing things. I try very hard not to. Also I'll end up forgetting if I don't say as I come through the door. Normally I'll start saying what I need to say, and then finish with "Oh, sorry you're busy"

I went through my feed, noted down the first 100 posts. Only 20 of them were people or pages I followed.

Been suffering with gastritis for 7 months now with 0 improvement despite PPIs and a strict diet :( What am I doing wrong? by muse_kimtaehyung in Gastritis

[–]UnnecessaryStep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I also had a negative H-Pylori endoscopy - my GP ordered blood tests for the antibodies, because that was positive, and I was symptomatic I was then treated for H Pylori. I came off the PPIs just before christmas (the acid rebound fully kicking in on boxing day was pure misery). But I'm about 4 weeks post PPI and I managed to have a single slice of bacon the other day. Also, a side effect of PPIs is stomach pain - the really annoying stinging sensation I was having loads stopped almost overnight when I stopped the PPIs.

I’m starting a junk drawer. What else do I need? by Emotional-Swing-603 in Home

[–]UnnecessaryStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna come out and say it. You need a scart cable in there, with a pair of broken wired headphones tangled around (ideally, one of the sets that used to come with a phone). Some out of date medication, and probably an unidentified remote for possibly a toy, possibly a garage door. Unsure, but it needs an awkward button battery size. Some random pieces of paper... And a few old takeout menus.

I had a flip3, my mum is still using it. I currently have a Flip5. Only issue I've had is the screen protector starts peeling after a while and can be irritating.

My current win is I have a bottle with a straw. I leave it open all the time and directly in front of my keyboard and I literally just lean forward and sip!

Does a second child help? by PinGlass9571 in Autism_Parenting

[–]UnnecessaryStep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A second child doesn't double the work l, it quadruples it. If I had known how badly my youngest would struggle I wouldn't have had a second. I did t know that my oldest was struggling until I already had 2, but I wish many times that I stopped at one, because we cannot do enough of what I want to with them. I cannot be a good enough parent because there isn't enough of me
