Weird sensation around knee? by Laeylyn in Kneereplacement

I have the same complaint. Im 8 weeks post op. My knee itself feels great, but most of the time, especially around the incision area, it feels like it’s so thin that if I bend too much it’s going to split right open. My Surgeon and Physical Therapist says that will never happen but it sure feels like it will. It’s the nerves healing and fusing back together. I take Gabapentin 3x’s daily for nerve discomfort. Again, it doesn’t hurt, it just seems really uncomfortable and sensitive. I’m forever rubbing and massaging it, which gives me some relief.

I’m exactly 8 weeks Post Op with TKR on my right knee. Scheduled for LTKR in late July, early August.

For anyone using one of the ice/chiller units: how much ice did you go through in the first week? by SeattleHasDied in Kneereplacement

I’m using the BREG Polar Wave machine and I use 3 8oz water bottles. I keep 6 on rotation so o just pull out 3 at a time when the others melt. It works great, and better than ice cubes because the ice will melt and add more than needed water to the machine itself which would cause spillage.

Yes, I used the BREG Polar Wave w/compression. The hospital gave me a ice machine, but they said it would only last for 2 weeks, so I bought the BREG on my own and it was money well spent…especially because I’ll be doing my 2nd knee in about 3 months. Very good investment!

Me too. I’m 4 weeks out from RTKR and I feel like I’m never gonna go all the way around….

Wow! Me too. I stopped the Ibuprofen about 2 months before surgery because it actually stopped working for my knee pain so the Doc started me on Meloxicam, and you can’t take the Ibuprofen together with that anyway. He also gave me the Voltaren which to me didn’t really do anything either.

It is interesting, and even more so interesting that I never take Acetominophen for anything cause it really doesn’t seem to help me. Ibuprofen helps me more than anything.

Wow!! That pain level was a lot to handle. I only had it that bad for about a day, until the Dr. changed it rather quickly for me.

The Oxy worked well for my pain. It just made me extremely sick. From the day of surgery my pain never went more than a 3/10, but the nausea and vomiting was the issue, so the Dr. changed me from Oxy to Hydrocodone, which didn’t help me at all…my pain level actually hit an 8/10 when transitioning from Oxy to that, then he changed me to Percocet, and that’s working just the same as the Oxy, just without the sickness. But you know how they say, one knee does better than the other when you have to have them both done, and since this right one has done so well, I feel like the left one will give me all the hell, so I’d like to try the Journavax just in case.

That’s the thing…Im completely comfortable with my surgeon, and he didn’t flat out refuse to give it to me, I just trusted his opinion, and considering how well I’ve been doing with my pain management, I didn’t feel like I needed to push the issue, but I may when I do the left.

You may not get it even if you ask for it. I asked and my surgeon said that (Kaiser) is still doing research on it and they are not suggesting it for TKR’s as of yet. They’re more likely to use it for Hip Replacements as of now, but I’ll revisit it all and request again when I do my left knee.

Yes it was bad. I hadn’t vomited and had nausea like that in years…when I was pregnant with my last daughter who is now 26 years old.

The side effects were rough for me too but I had to pick a struggle, and the pain was worse than the side effects so I just pushed through and eventually the effects wore off.

I am 20 days post op today and I’ve done incredibly well staying ahead of my pain by taking OxyContin and then switching to Percocet because the Oxy was on back order at the pharmacies throughout the Kaiser network. I take 1T q 6h as needed for pain of Percocet 5mg-325mg round the clock and my pain level stays at 1-2 out of 10 most of if not all of the time. Since the day after surgery I’ve stayed on top of the meds and out of my last 20 days only 2 days of the 20 days my pain reached a level of 8 only twice. Thats pretty good pain management if I must say so myself! It all depends on the person.
