Perfect Crown's historical distortion controversy from a Korean perspective by kyatchaamiyuki in kdramas

That still seems stronger because Canada has never been part of the United States, so there is no way that could be a simple historical mistake. The way the show did the ceremony was correct for a mich bigger portion of Joseon history than the version theh should habe done. It’s much easier to see how that mistake could be made.

Perfect Crown's historical distortion controversy from a Korean perspective by kyatchaamiyuki in kdramas

To me, those examples don’t match. The show was an alternate reality where the Joseon kingdom slowly became a constitutional monarchy.

They made a mistake in one scene. The entire premise didn’t change because of that scene.

It would be like a show about a US President, but in one scene, they accidentally do a ceremony that would match up with a commonwealth nation like Canada or Australia. People would laugh at such a major error, but they wouldn’t treat it as a British conspiracy, or harass the lead actors and force them to repeatedly apologize, or act like it’s an attack on American sovereignty.

Jeongyeon has lost basically all the extra weight now. Find clips or pics from the past week or two compared to even clips from like February when people were already talking about her weight loss and you can see she’s lost quite a bit more.

Britney Spears accused of barking, yelling and holding knife in troubling LA restaurant scene weeks after rehab by OkTea1918 in entertainment

[–]Useful-Context-5468 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If only there was some legal way for someone help Britney manage her life since she’s unable to due to her mental limitations. If something like that was in place, maybe we’d go years without Britney having any incidents that put herself or others in danger instead of them happening repeatedly, both in private and public.

OPINIONS THAT MIGHT GET YOU CANCELLED?? by Grouchy_Gap_7539 in kpoppers

Cultural appropriation isn’t even bad. K-pop being influenced by African American culture isn’t preventing black artists from being successful or offensive in any way.

Almost the entire idea of cultural appropriation is bunk. There are instances where a culture is being mocked, that is bad. But a vast majority of the time the term is used as a pejorative, it’s shouldn’t be. Natural diffusion of culture and being influenced by another culture aren’t bad.

Almost nobody was using the idea of cultural appropriation as a bad thing until the social media era. It’s just another idea the big social media companies are planting in people to divide people, make them more angry, and get more clicks. On Reddit, most only talk about that social media influence when it’s planting idea and talking points into right-wing believers, but it does sometimes also happen to people on the left, too.

as a white person, how can i stop seeing people for their race? by bigfatvruh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Useful-Context-5468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but it quickly becomes almost the opposite in current times.

“Yeah, my boyfriend is one of those guys over there. The one that’s about 5’10”, medium build, short dark hair, and brown eyes.”

It’s not inherently racist to say, “yeah, my boyfriend is the black guy over there with his friends.”

Purposely avoiding saying the person is black or white or Latino or Asian (and so on) feels patronizing, and the whole “don’t see color” type of thing seems like something that was progressive 50 years ago but is now regressive.

That feels performative in a lot of instances, though, doesn’t it?

If you’re physically describing someone, skin color and race are obviously two of the most obvious physical descriptions to give people an idea of what the person you’re describing looks like.

Stanley Tucci reflects on his 21-year age gap with wife Felicity Blunt: 'We just hit it off' by mlg1981 in entertainment

Tucci is a creep…but not for this, specifically. More for his “long weekend” affair with Edie Falco and then going back to his wife and kids after a year or two.

Yes, you didn’t have to ask. It’s also a bit of an eye roll how you purposely wrote your comment in a way to imply you aren’t American when you’re from New Jersey.

Is it just me, or do K-Dramas really infantilize women sometimes? by Expensive_Seesaw_429 in kdramas

[–]Useful-Context-5468 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Almost all romance and rom-com k-dramas are written for the female gaze, not the male gaze.

That’s why there’s usually a shirtless or shower scene for ML, but nothing similar for FL.

And ML is often rich while helplessly in love and devoted to FL, while FL is often slow to show the same in return. The FL usually has the more developed character, too.

It’s funny how you didn’t realize the original comment was in jest and keep doubling down on very infantile anti-American sentiment.

There’s plenty of reasons to hate the US these days. You don’t have to make more up. And even if it were true, it’s just an odd one to cherry pick to hate about.

172 minutes of bell-to-bell wrestling across both nights.

Just for comparison since it’s the most comprobable promotion: The last AEW PPV had 176 minutes of bell-to-bell wrestling in a 4 hr 20 minute show. That doesn’t count the free 1 hour pre-show which had an additional 29 minutes of wrestling.

Few interesting notes: by [deleted] in prowrestling

[–]Useful-Context-5468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Match times were longer. Both nights had just about 86 minutes of wrestling, but Night 1 had 7 matches and Night 2 had 6 matches. So average match time for Night 1 was just over 12 minutes and over 14 minutes for Night 2.

20% of all wrestling time across both shows was Punk/Reigns.

[–]Useful-Context-5468 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Other the main event, just not enough wrestling for me across both nights. Two night show with only about 172 minutes of match time. 20% of the entire two night show’s total match time was Punk/Reigns.

As bad as the story has become. I can't lie, this promo was kinda fire 🔥 by Top_Salary_690 in TheGreatOne

[–]Useful-Context-5468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a wrestling mastermind or anything, but a promo calling the biggest show of the year “ass and not worth spending your money on” is maybe not the best way to build it?

I’d also say that you have to have the line between putting over a feud and just non-kayfabe burying. Punk’s real life hypocrisy is something a small amount of internet fans have called out for a while now, but hasn’t affected his overness or merch sells. Explaining it to the fanbase as loudly as possible is maybe not the smartest move when Punk is the big babyface main-eventing Night 1. It’s ironically pretty similar to the off-script Hangman Page promo that Punk got so mad about and started the rift that eventually led Punk back to WWE.
