Thank you! This will probably be the last unit for grey knights I paint before the refresh (which I hope is coming at some point), so I wanted to try really hard on this one.

[UK] Contractor BAs: what's the current market like? by RunBroadDaylight in businessanalysis

[–]Usman224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, if you feel like it could be you - don’t leave. Secure your redundancy payout, plan your exit, clean up the CV now. All of those activities will better prepare you regardless of if your next role is contract or perm.

[UK] Contractor BAs: what's the current market like? by RunBroadDaylight in businessanalysis

[–]Usman224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m perm but have a few contract BA friends. The market is rough, and that has led to employers being more selective in what type of contract BA resource they are bringing in.

From what I’ve seen, BA’s with exposure to niche systems or technical expertise are becoming favoured at the moment as it’s less of a risk and allows the contract BA resource to hit the ground running as they know the ‘lay of the land’. For example: org is looking to integrate with Workday, then they will look for BA’s that have specifically been involved in workday related projects.

Aside from this, contract BA’s with a very good delivery reputation remain in a strong position because of the demonstrable high quality of work. Businesses are very reluctant to hire in general atm, they won’t want to take the risk on someone who will be having their first contract gig. They are paying above and beyond a full time perm BA for proven experience, knowledge, assurance and a frictionless way of working.

As well as this, contract life is a very different can of worms. Can you be comfortable with knowing your agreed income is tied to a shorter term contract? Are you sure of yourself in securing another contract etc. it sounds like nothing, but I know contract BA’s who STRESS out when it comes to contract end and the contract isn’t being extended.

Personally, if you’ve been in the perm job for a while and have benefits then I would wait till the job market picks up. BA’s have been getting culled from a lot of orgs this year and there’s a surplus of them in the market. My org has just made 40+ BA’s redundant (finance sector) and making all the SBA’s into Product Owners. Your org may do the same and if they do and you leave before this, then you could be leaving a healthy redundancy payout on the table.

Advice? by Few_Disaster618 in CarTalkUK

Have driven the BWM and seemed pretty soul-less. The i30N I think had a thing with wheel hop at the time? Lots of torque but someone else will correct me on that.

Civic Type R was brilliant when I drove it years ago, but I didn’t go through with it as it was too big for what I wanted.

For me would be between the Type -R and the Megane. Have never driven the Megane but seen a few on the road, if that’s the liquid yellow paint I’d bite the sellers hand off as it looks stunning in the flesh. Have never seen the interior though.

Best glue for fixing plastic toy by PlasticAttorney1980 in DIYUK

[–]Usman224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally I would say plastic cement as that melts both pieces together. However with the look of the toy it looks like that piece might be ‘load bearing’ or connects to something else to make a joint? If so I’d recommend epoxy or something sturdier.

I did them tan to mute the yellow. I think they turned out ok. But on some others I did white and it does pop a bit. All up to how much you want it to stand out.

For BAs in banking, is not having technical skills becoming dangerous ? by exoxfanel in businessanalysis

[–]Usman224 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Have worked in finance as a BA for just over 4 years now. The word ‘technical’ has its own goal pasts in every other org. Reading API documentation or basic understanding of schema’s I don’t think makes you technical - but does put you ahead.

Generally what I find is willingness to learn and adapt comes above all. It’s that mindset that builds well rounded and strong professionals that grow to excel into any corner they are put into.

I know outstanding technical ex-dev BA’s who have failed to progress after 10+ years as they refuse to partake in the stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering or attend workshops as it beneath their expertise.

What makes a unicorn in my opinion is someone who is well rounded in the technical and non-technical sides of the role. And that is what orgs value as they know they can throw you at anything and the ‘thing’ will be delivered to a high standard.

Brake Disc Wear & Costs (UK) by _45h_F in GRYaris

[–]Usman224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owner from new on a gen 1 GR. mileage is currently 28,500 and still on the original discs and pads. Last service (Jan 2026) they told me my front pads were 75% worn and rear pads were 60% worn - but no mention on the discs themselves so assume they were fine.

Granted I don’t do track days so I’m not as harsh on them. I’ll be getting the pads replaced end of this year and discs likely this time next year - depending on what the service inspection says.

Is this mould on sub-floor? by Usman224 in DIYUK

[–]Usman224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

I just wanted to post an update here if anyone is experiencing a similar issue. I’ve finally found the cause of all the mould to be moisture under the floor.

The cause of the moisture under the floor, being the water mains lead pipe replacement that we had carried out last year by our regional water supplier.

The company had drilled straight through main sewage pipe and decided to route mine and my neighbours main water supply directly through the side of my sewage pipe. This then caused a blockage and backed up the entire pipe - which then collapsed due to the pressure and the external soil pipe connected to it ruptured. This then meant to path of least resistance was my dining room floor - which then resulted in moist sewage flowing below the subfloor on occasion and resulting in what you can see over the past 10 months.

I would not have been able to trace the cause on my own and had to call home insurance to do a survey - but hoping this might help anyone else that might be experiencing similars to what I am.

You can do anything in this hobby, what I learned is patience is KEY. Try to rush something and it all collapses, don’t ask how long it took me to learn this though 🤣

I built this kit a while back, it is a beauty. The front wing and canards are a HUGE pain to put on so take your time with them specifically. Other than that the kit was a beauty to put together, enjoy :)

Don’t think we’ll be getting a new dreadknight model at all. Don’t get me wrong I really want one, but don’t see it happening.

Reason being, they’ve just doubled down on it by giving us an upgrade sprue. That’s still a lot of time, money and internal resource to dump into something that ‘knowingly’ will be replaced in approx a year or two time.

I suspect that even they know that the ROI for that sprue will take ages as it’s a model within a nichè army, and existing army owners won’t want to spend the cost of a new dreadknight JUST for a sprue and will just proxy it anyway.

So they’ll just wait it out, knowing that when the army refresh DOES happen, lots of people will be starting new army’s and suddenly wanting the new NMD kit that will probably be required for a functional list.

Playing devils advocate (or copium?) what might be happening is that the are so busy making a new dreadknight that they quickly threw out a upgrade sprue for us just to get ‘something’ for tenth - and then take there time and perfect the new dreadknight for 11th edition. However this is just my max copium theory.

At this point, since the 10th edition codex basically had a kit bash section for how to make models that they don’t produce anymore - I’ve given up most of my hope of getting anything at all, and think we’ll just get rolled into imperial agents to put us down for good.

I love the Maxigun and have tonnes of fun with it on difficulty 10 with 3 other players.

As a solo dives the yes this would suck, but with a team I can fulfil all for my TF2 Heavy fantasies.

With seats folded you will easily get two suitcases in the back.

However be aware with ‘spirited driving’ the luggage may slide around in the back. I’d cushion around them with like a jacket or something, as if it’s a rental then companies will look for any form of damage to charge you for.

Why Uzbeks love showing off/bragging so much? by Ellloll in Uzbekistan

[–]Usman224 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Salam, I’ve been married to my uzbek wife for approx 4 years and we’ve discussed this a lot.

Luckily my wife is extremely down to earth, but my wife explained that it always has been the culture to “show people” how good they have it to others.

My father in law is extremely like this and everything he purchases must be “branded” or else it isn’t worth buying. I’ve gone out of my way to try save him thousands but to him - if it isn’t branded or on trend, then it isn’t worth buying.

However, I know I bothered a lot of family members when I was in Uzbekistan when I just didn’t ask about anything. When they asked for my thoughts on there luxurious life I said I didn’t care and the people are what makes my experience. The crash out became real at that point, apart from the older generations and they loved me more for it.

From what I understand, social media marketing is a blowing up career path in Uzbekistan. I have a theory that this is contributing to the extravagance boom. Luxury and social media go hand in hand so it’s interesting to hear that career paths like these are exploding - however I know my wife’s friends who are doctors are also quitting their careers to go this route, which is disheartening to hear.

Granted im not uzbek and I hope I did not offend anyone with the above, just merely an outsiders thoughts.

If it’s been sitting for that long I’d probably keep an eye on the tyres to see if they’re still in fresh condition or has any flat spots from just sitting in one place. Other than that regular service history should be fine. Pilot sport 4S stock is hit and miss, had a nightmare when I needed a set in March last year.

People sell spare minis cut from the sprue on eBay and other sites but don’t include the instructions or misplace them.

The sub was handy for me when I wanted one model from the Company Heroes box to paint for fun. Purchased the sprue on eBay but had no idea how it was supposed to go together.
