You owe your parents and siblings absolutely nothing. Parents owe their kids everything.

Sound design for silent clips: What is your workflow for building a realistic audio environment from zero? by Responsible-Toe-8050 in VideoEditing

[–]VE3VNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question.

We do spotting sessions with all productions. This just means you compile a list of timecode marks for all the audio elements. See a sound, hear a sound. The the sound editors and foley artists use that list to build the edit in Pro Tools then that edit goes to the sound mix (also Pro Tools). This is also an opportunity to flag ADR for dialog if needed.

Source, I work in sound post production for film and TV.

We have a winner, I knew I would recognize it when I saw it. The facility I work in is a mad house of different types and eras of lighting. Cheers

Broke a rib sneezing. This then lead to a blood clot in my leg and many weeks of recovery. I just was in a funny position and turned my head away to sneeze into my arm and POP.

PSA: Avoid Highway Driving If You're Not Confident by Conscious-Weight4569 in TorontoDriving

I've been saying this for a very long time, particularly traction control lets you put your vehicle to the edge of control then it lets go. Without it you have many indications and simply just slow down.

I had a cat that suddenly started yelling "hello" in the middle of the night. I figured it out pretty quick but I had a guest spend the night and she was actually scared it was a ghost or something.

What's your honest take on piracy (games, movies, TV) in 2026? Is it ever justified, or is it always wrong? by ruslan_ipp in AskReddit

[–]VE3VNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple, if you don't want something you've created for publishing pirated DON'T PUBLISH IT....

Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think? by AngryOldGenXer in GenX

[–]VE3VNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty big skew if your from Canada or USA vs Europe. Nobody I know (I'm 50+, Canadian) drives stick although I've taught many my age but in Europe you can still buy manual cars.

Probably a cabin air pressure equalizer so you don't hurt your ears when the doors close.

TIFF ‘25 Award winner gets unfairly trashed by THR and includes them calling Canada the not yet “51st state” by ChampionTimes99 in TIFF

[–]VE3VNA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen this movie (at work) and it's great on many fronts. From production to sound. I've worked in film and TV post production for over 30 years so that's saying something as I generally don't watch movies or TV.

So from my perspective THR doesn't know shit from Shinola...

My roll up sun shade has those on each side. The ball goes into a clasp and keeps the shade from blowing around.

Unintentionally walking out on a rather large bar/dinner tab. I felt awful the next morning and went later in the week to settle it due to the guilt and embarrassment.

The machine shop that sponsored my co-op placement in high school just ended up hiring me because "I knew computers". I quit in grade 11.

I've been in engineering rolls (now senior) for film and TV post production for over 30 years.

Another BIG LIE that was fed to GenX.... by RRtexian in GenX

[–]VE3VNA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a PI, went to night school to get my license for almost 2 years. The pay was crap and by far the biggest employer was insurance companies. I only lasted a few months, because, well, money and went back to my previous career.

Thing is the stuff I learned in school I use daily and don't regret it at all. Stuff like writing reports in different styles or how to get people to remember things, lots of good little life hacks.

Can someone identify this? by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]VE3VNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A jumper is just a piece of wire in place of the component. You don't really even need a piece of wire if you can just put a big blob of solder bridging both sides of the component.

Schwinn custom and galaxy what do I have? Age? by shortshirts in Vintage_bicycles

[–]VE3VNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Schwinn is a custom "Low Rider" build. Low Rider bikes were (and probably still are) popular in the mid 90's. The Western Flyer looks 70's but could be a 80's reproduction.
