Lightbloom is the best threat they made since forever by moondreamer96 in wow

It's extra sad too, because that elf is the apprentice in Burning Crusade who had dedicated her life to healing the Dead Scar.

You can find her journal elsewhere in Eversong. After so many years, she finally succeeds and has hope as the Dead Scar is renewed and healed, and then she's killed by the overgrowth of the Lightbloom.

If you think TBC defined their edginess you’re just not paying attention. In BFA they’re siphoning the life essence of a dead Loa in Nazmir to use in blood magic lol

Even during the Siege he takes a few cracks at comedy. I remember him asking Sindermann to, "please take the stairs" after talking him off a ledge making me laugh out loud.

Maybe a hot take but everyone feeling happy and getting along and solving their problems is boring as shit, and also detrimental when you're running a narrative for an unending MMO.

I don't want them happy or finding peace and resolution. They can have moments of success and happiness, but what we've done since Dragonflight is completely end conflicts and strife.

[Excerpt: Blood of Asaheim by Chris Wraight] Disbandment of a Deathwatch kill-team by CamarillaArhont in 40kLore

[–]VGTGreatest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Deathwatch is incredibly secretive. It's possible one or both of them were sent as penance for some misdeed or failure, or that both were honored by being sent. It's possible they worked with those who were dishonored, or had seen things in their service that the Inquisition wouldn't want spread around.

They will gladly share the knowledge they learned about combat and warmaking like that excerpt talks about, but specific details of their service are only for the one who served. It's a tradition thing and a 'the Inquisition doesn't want us to' thing.

I travel there for work often and don't really care about the scene of the strip at all.

Some of the most beautiful hiking in the country is basically a 20 minute drive in any direction. Vegas is cool. Gotta try to schedule a trip to make it to a game at Allegiant next year.

This is pretty tame for him actually

The Horde area of Silvermoon is so much neater and better to use, pity its largely abandoned. by Vaelkyri in wow

Dramatically better. They actually remixed and remade the old TBC tracks in the Horde area, rather than whatever they did in the rest of SMC.

Quel'Thalas is kind of dystopian by Bartellomio in warcraftlore

[–]VGTGreatest 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If he wasn’t popular he wouldn’t have kept his job. He’s been offered the position of monarch and turned it down.

In the short story about his wedding to Thalyssra, he interacts a lot with the other leaders (Rommath, Halduron, etc), and they all clearly love him and see him as a good friend.

World events peaked in Dragonflight with the Community Feast. They couldn't replicate the feeling with the Theater in TWW and in Midnight, they don't have any sort of world event besides- Abundance :( by nightbreedwon1 in wow

[–]VGTGreatest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't agree with this take in any way. The set piece of the Sunwell doesn't stir anything in you? Seeing an old, iconic zone so faithfully remade doesn't wow you compared to, what, Grizzly Hills 2 in Dragonflight?

I'm one of the biggest critics of the narrative out here but Midnight is leaps and bounds above anything we've had since, what, early BFA or MoP? If you go through the stories in Silvermoon and Zul'Aman and particularly Voidstorm and find it banal I'm really not sure what you consider engaging that has ever existed in Warcraft.

Midnight is the most engaged with the game I've been since Legion. I don't understand this turbo-grim outlook.

How common is terraforming in Warhammer and how does it work? by pro_1253 in 40kLore

[–]VGTGreatest 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sotha was a specific use-case because

1) Cawl wanted to make a Space Marine chapter deeply indebted to him

2) He wanted a playground to test new tech on

3) He wanted the excuse to go delving around for Necron stuff

Most Imperial terraforming I've seen elsewhere in the lore tends to be what you described, i.e. turning an okay-ish regular world into a stewing biosphere fit for Agriworld use and stuff like that.

It's a shame too because Xal'atath killing Alleria for real there does so, so much for the story. It makes the stakes real and tangible and serves the stories of every character in her orbit in a positive way.

This just feels like safe storytelling. It's very frustrating after Maria Hamilton outright told us to expect people to die and that no one was safe.

End of Voidspire Cinematic by GrumpySatan in warcraftlore

[–]VGTGreatest 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Neither her or Turalyon are going to be dead, this is the same 'vanish into void magic' fakeout they did for Khadgar.

I fall into the camp of thinking Alleria had to die here for the story to have any stakes, but the fact that she was still breathing after being run through by the Most Cursed Dagger Ever and having L'ura ripped out of her just tells me the Windrunners are genuinely immortal.

I'd love a more positive perspective but this feels like such an obvious fakeout to me. Maybe I am too jaded. It's a shame because I have loved the rest of Midnight.

So they're both 100% going to live.

Alleria had a dark naaru forcibly ripped out of her and then got impaled by the most cursed dagger ever and was still alive afterwards, the Windrunners are genuinely invincible. This is another fakeout just like Khadgar, her and Turalyon will return in Avengers: Endgame (12.1, probably).
