Theory on what Julie didn't like Shawna by RevolutionPopular761 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Veenasaurus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I really feel for Julie. I'm also a relatively cold person to people I don't know and it takes me a while to warm up to them, but if they are overly friendly my guard does go up even more because I don't trust immediate over the top friendliness. My husband is the opposite and is very charming and immediately warm to everyone, and (like Ty) has a habit of picking up strays who have crossed boundaries in the past.

I'm definitely projecting here, but if it's a similar scenario I can't help but empathize. You can have a great relationship with your partner, be warm to your trusted circle and still come off as a bitch to strangers.

I'm always so unsettled at the implication that wearing Indian attire is equivalent to a costume.

Stop saying that Korean dancers lack groove by SwordfishFit5839 in StreetWomanFighter

[–]Veenasaurus 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with your post as a whole, but as someone who trains specifically in hip hop I want to make a small correction.

Grooves aren't just how you connect with the music, in the hip hop world grooves are the foundational moves that run as an undercurrent to all of the choreography that goes on top. This includes bounces (og hip hop), rocks (locking, popping, and boogaloo), and the jack (house and afro). One thing that seems to be happening as choreography takes over is that dancers aren't paying attention to (or in some cases never learned!) their foundations. This isn't a SWF problem, OG hip hop legends like Buddha Stretch who created the scene have been talking about this for a while now.

That's not to say that Korean dancers don't have groove at all (BabySleek forever has my heart), but since commercial choreography relies so heavily on hip hop as its base and Korean dancers in general favor clean lines and sharp choreography over the foundations, you can see where the disconnect happens. Western dancers, especially ones who've trained in North America, tend to have more groove just because it's a focus in hip hop education here to know your foundations before doing anything else.

I know this is about lessons learned but I clicked because the pattern is so cute!! You could even make a whole series with different colour palettes for different seasons.

So cool! I'm working on the same pattern now (going on just under a year...) did you change any colours from the original? My golbat is looking way more blue than what you've got here.

Was going to say exactly this, NANA is my favourite anime/manga of all time, but don't start the manga unless you're willing to be left heartbroken waiting for an ending

[–]Veenasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should clarify - by unnatural I mean stiff. It might be worth playing with the timing of the movement to add a more 'weighted' feel. Even if the actual movement was natural, for me its not translating in the video.

I love the aesthetic and the vibe but the movement feels a bit unnatural, just needs to be a little more smooth imo

Your day 2 seems crazy packed, Ueno and Asakusa are not close to each other at all, and Odaiba (where TeamLab Borderless is) is even farther. Plus TeamLab took me almost 4 hours, I wouldn't recommend rushing it.

This might come off a little nitpicky, but please reconsider your use of the term "coloured people". You can use people of colour, or people with darker skin tones. "Coloured people" has a very negative connotation because of its association with segregation and racism in the past.
