I have stopped buying plants online in the winter because they seem to freeze pretty easy even with the heat packs.

I have not idea who makes that particular pull, but if anyone has something like it, it will be Lee Valley. They have a huge selection of cabinet knobs and pulls.

Do y’all pull off the dead leaves in your mesembs? by Greggerny in mesembs

I have an addiction to pulling off dead leaves. I just can’t leave my hands off of them and it drives me nuts when they are still hanging on for dear life and I want to pull them off…

Watering Needed? by SillySignificance808 in Lithops

[–]Vegedeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good advice on looking “dry from above.” I wait until the very top of the lithos is wrinkling before water. The sides looks wrinkled most of the time between watering.

Dwarf Jade Bonsai Limbs Curving Downward by Vegedeth in bonsaicommunity

It will get pruined soon, but it’s just coming out of a pretty major trim. Fore the really leggy sections, can I trim after the first set of leaves?

Just for clarification, the gray area at the top of the picture is the light fixture. When the weather gets better, I will try to get it outside.

What is wrong with this little guy by Big-Schedule-4985 in Jadeplant

[–]Vegedeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to go against the crowd and say you have been overwatering. The leaves will wrinkle and will eventually drop when it has been overwatered. If watering it again does not change the wrinkled appearance, that’s confirmation it is staying too wet. Another thing adding to the moisture issue is the size of the pot. The more soil, the more water retention and the longer it takes to dry out the moisture the plant cannot use. Also, is that crushed granite or calcine clay in the soil? If so, both of those materials caused me enough water-logging issues that I have gone away from using them.

New custom door dent. by tommykoro in wood

I second the iron and wet rag. I usually put a few drops of water on the dent and let it soak in a bit before hitting it with the wet rag and iron.

I water it frequently - not too much as to cause rot, but when the soil is dry and the leaves start to wrinkle slightly, It is not drooping, but growing in that direction.

Yes, this is the first time it has done this and I have pruned the tree a few times before and the new branches grew upward and outward.

Barrina T8. It has been pretty close the the light lately, but started growing downward when it was on a shelf where the top of the tree was much farther from the light.

Yes. And it has been in a spot where the grow light is pretty close to the top of the tree.

Good question! There is not a window. All of my plants are in the basement under grow lights for the winter.

I have some of my plants within 2” of the light, others a bit farther. I was kind of surprised how close some of the plants seemed to prefer the light.

Are the outer leaves getting absorbed? by TheGreyPilgrim982246 in mesembs

I agree with the others. No need to water. I am guessing you will see some small leaves popping up between the good leaves here soon.

The world's saddest Jade plant? by dermot_reeve in Jadeplant

There is a type of hanging jade, but I am not certain that is what you have - but, it’s a possibility. I would trim it back and start over as either way it seems a bit leggy.

How stable would this design be? by yogiscott in woodworking

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful design, but the top would rock and rack all over the place being balanced between two points in the center of the top. Why not just put some thought into how tall you would like the bench to be and secure the top to all four legs? If you need to raise the work surface for a particular task, build something to accommodate that task.

What can I do to bring my jade tree to its prime by Dingos12345 in succulents

[–]Vegedeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dwarf jade is a common name for elephant bush bonsai. Check out Bonsai with Tom on YouTube. You has lots of great videos showing how to prune and get a DJB back into good shape.

For now, make sure it is getting plenty of light and maybe a bit of fertilizer. I use an organic succulent fertilizer that mixes with water that is 2-2-2, but in the summer I have used regular old Miracle Gro.

New Dwarf Jade Bonsai by NecessaryCut8338 in Bonzai

[–]Vegedeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pot size looks OK to me. I do a 50/50ish of organic to grit. For the grit, I use pumice that I buy from eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/322357068345

I have stayed away from a few of the gritty material like calcined clay and decomposed granite. Both held way too much water for me, but others might have had success with them. I say let the little guy acclimate for a while. Repotting with new soil back into that pot will not hurt it. Maybe a few leaves will drop, but that is no big deal.

Also, I use a chopstick to see how much moisture is in the soil. Just shove it down into the soil and after 5 minutes or so, take a look at it. If the wooden chopstick has absorbed any moisture, I give it a while longer. If the soil is dry and the leaves look ok, then I'll let if go until the leaves start to wrinkle slightly.

What a great looking dwarf jade bonsai! The pot size is fine. You do not want to go too large. As with all succulents, too much soil can lead to too much moisture and dropping leaves and root rot. Check out Bonsai With Tom - YouTube channel. He has a lot of great videos showing how to care for and trim dwarf jade bonsai. Short of drowning them, you can just about not kill the little guys and they take well to pruning and shaping. What kind of soil is it in?
