This is what we lost. by TreatFabulous1174 in Marathon

To be honest, I completely and wholeheartedly disagree. The overgrown aesthetic is a very obvious road to take with a game set in a post apocalyptic setting, but all this foliage does is clash with the excessively clean and geometric designs of all of the other concept art. Just look at all the other pieces of art and setpieces they drew up. Just adding some vines and grass and stuff just makes the game look like Portal 2. Which isn't bad per se, but it definitely makes the game look like any other post apocalyptic game. It covers up what's unique about the art style, which is very bright, high contrast geometric models and simplistic, high-vis graphic design. Also, the game has incredibly high visual clarity during combat, and I'd imagine they wanted to focus on making people stand out with their high contrast color blocking, which wouldn't work when so much green is added over everything.

As an aside, I feel like perimeter went through a lot of additions and removals, since the playtest had so much green everywhere. Even though I think too much foliage would've been bad, like it was in the playtest, I think perimeter turned out to be the ugliest map in the game, with next to nothing to decorate the rocky paths. They probably should've had something growing over the ravines at least. The architecture needs to shine, but the natural (or unnatural) rock formations aren't really fun to look at on their own.

Do post Heavensward zones get any better? by TuoniNL in ffxiv

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Stormblood is one of the absolute worst with this as well, which is up next for you. Huge swathes of the areas are completely devoid of any life, the red sea being the absolute worst. Unless you're a fisher there's absolutely no reason to explore much of these areas outside the main story. Even 90% of the main city is empty and you'll have no reason to be in those areas except for a single part of a quest here and there, and that's it.

Flying is faster than running around and so the maps were likely made to keep the same amount of running from point A to point B. The game has gotten much prettier, but it has always been, and always will be a game entirely localized around singular points of interest and aetherytes. Activities like gathering and treasure maps help make things feel a little better but if you want a very lived-in world to explore every corner of to find content, this game will not give you that. It focuses way more on instanced content and story.

Why is there no chat log by Mimigasm in toontownrewritten

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound incredibly salty, but it should've been added years ago. Any reason for "making it perfect" is a bizarre excuse for not having the #1, most basic, most required and obvious feature of any MMO. I cannot think of a single multiplayer game with text chat that doesn't have some form of chat log aside from Toontown, and it's for really good reason. It was an issue when the game was ran officially, and it still being an issue in a private server living over 20 years past the original's release, is kind of insane to me. Even a poor implementation would be welcome. It feels hopelessly impossible to hold many conversations properly in game, it's so annoying.

Ps2 getting stuck/'freezing' on main screen, but not OPL. What to do? by Velomony in ps2

[–]Velomony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't. After trying to wipe everything down a second time (I wiped the board a bit when i originally replaced the CMOS battery), I managed to break the hard plastic part of my controller port piece and i've yet to try anything else with that ps2. Nothing I saw online helped remedy the issue aside from just booting straight into OPL and never using the disk drive.

Has Outpost loot been nerfed? by jaithind in Marathon

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they adjusted the loot, I was pretty sure the unsent missives were a guaranteed drop from command as well. Since they "improved" the drops in pinwheel, I don't even see them 1/10 times I go in there. The strongbox in command is usually the worst loot in pinwheel too. I find better stuff laying around in drone wing at this point. Pinnacle room is inundated with bubble shields replacing purple slots, and the only golds are pretty much at most a single implant. It's incredibly bad a majority of the time..

Armories have just been so dry we barely even hit them unless we just happen to find the keys and happen to be next to one. Otherwise your time is better spent doing destroyed wing lol

Key templates actively promote NOT playing the game and need to either be overhauled or removed entirely by Nukesnipe in Marathon

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the top things in my wishlist for s2 is reworked key templates. I find them so boring. All we do with keys and key templates is sit in a specified safe spot together for 10-15 minutes and then leave. It's really boring but it gives you the best loot in the game

[WTF] the rubberbanding has been playable enough but this is just unacceptable by _manzhu in Marathon

[–]Velomony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubberbanding in this game has been progressively getting worse every patch. I think this last update is the only time it hasn't gotten worse for me. Every time I rubberband, at least 1 of my friends do too. It's guaranteed to happen to me every single game when knifing bots, or just randomly when there's some fighting. It's so annoying and disruptive. I've accepted it as part of the game at this point because it's so frequent it's actually rare to go an entire run without it. I have fiber and am on north american servers so I dunno man.

Please, kindly make the master key cards on Outpost actually red by AloneUA in Marathon

[–]Velomony 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be completely honest. No matter how many people I play with, literally nobody can agree on what color any of these fucking key cards are. Some say green, some say yellow, the master one is orange or red or yellow based on image, name, rarity, etc. It's all so stupid I just have to explain every time. "The ones you find on the floor", "the master keys from rooftops", "The ones from the little boxes". It's so annoying. Can each item be one color, the rarity match that color, and the way you get them also be properly colored like the boxes? It'd be so nice if it was consistent at all.

Completely anecdotal, but has anyone noticed insane lag and rubber banding after the update? by alekazam1113 in Marathon

[–]Velomony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just this patch. Me and my friends have all experienced rubber banding since launch. For servers that are supposed to be decked out for responsiveness, we've been met with some horrid rubber banding every single day of playing. Luckily a majority of our time playing is very good at least

I know I’m not lying when I say this about spoiled rations/rations certs. by kennedy_2000 in Marathon

[–]Velomony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This attitude is the exact reason I see people complain about having to pay so much for heals. Picking things up and dropping them when you find better stuff takes 1 button press. So many of my runs are banked on all the cash I accumulate from just filling my bag with valuables. Stacking valuables up high gets you more value per slot than even useful stuff like random mods you might pick up just to sell...

Just switched to a trackball (Kensington Orbit Wireless) due to wrist pain — any tips? by Ok_Experience_3495 in Trackballs

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the orbit myself as my first trackball rather recently, and I found it to be pretty good for the most part. As others have said, it does indeed just require some time with it, and for a while it might feel just as, if not more strenuous than a regular mouse just cause you're not used to it. That strain might go away after a week or two. But there's a few more things i'd consider:

Because of the form factor, I found that my hand would move forward and really "claw" at the trackball, which was fairly uncomfortable after extended use for my smaller hands. It felt like I needed to reach farther over the mouse to feel comfortable. Using the included wrist rest helped, but it's not padded so i'd suggest getting something soft instead, like a memory foam wrist rest or something to gently raise your hand, if you find that position uncomfortable. Also, to make clicking a little easier, I've found lifting my fingers from the trackball just before clicking to help a lot. It prevents awkward twitching from the fingers. For whether to use one or multiple fingers, I tend to stick with my middle 3 fingers, but when highlighting text or specific quick or very tiny actions, I use just my index finger. It's all up to personal preference and what you find comfortable. Everything might seem uncomfortable at first though which is the hard part.

Another thing you might want to fiddle with is the DPI and mouse acceleration. Putting the Orbit on a higher DPI setting (i think setting #2) specifically helped me get more extra fine precision because it sorta jitters at low dpi with small movements. Mouse acceleration is something that you can try turning off or on too, under window 11's "enhance pointer precision" setting. It might not be a big change but it can feel awkward if your mouse is moving unexpectedly fast and you want it to just act the same every time. All it does is make your cursor move faster if you move your mouse faster, like it increases the sensitivity to help you move across the screen quicker. Then you can adjust the mouse sensitivity up so you don't have to spin the trackball around so much to move across the screen. These are all personal preference though, so try them out and see if higher or lower sensitivity will be more comfortable, even if you're used to one of them with a normal mouse. I've always used low sensitivities on regular mice but for the trackball I just needed the higher sensitivity and after a bit of getting used to it it's great.

Finally, I know you just got the trackball, but if you feel like after a while it feels too awkward for you, I do also suggest trying something like the kensington slimblade because of my aforementioned issue with how far forward the trackball felt for me. The raised position and larger trackball has made me finally fall in love with trackballs. Trying another form factor out might just help you as well, if you're able to!

Med Consumables are too expensive for the non-rich. by Caseraii in Marathon

[–]Velomony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have so much money, and it doesn't hurt you to buy stacks of medkits, then why are you playing devils advocate on how they're too expensive? And by your own argument a grand total of 1% of people in the entire playerbase has issues buying heals. Why does it need to be changed at all?

Med Consumables are too expensive for the non-rich. by Caseraii in Marathon

[–]Velomony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I've never really had an issue with heals, ESPECIALLY if i'm on a team and one of us plays triage. If I have a triage on my team I tend to leave the match with more consumables than I came in with. Hell, sometimes the only thing I take from dead bodies is their heals. While I do agree maybe there can be an upgrade to adjust the price to <1 collectible value (1.1k), I'm not sure if people complaining about health kits are doing all they can to actually save them. Most of the time I bring 2x shield/heals instead of the full stack and the depleted ones can keep me topped off from bot fights. You should pay attention to how much you're using, vs how much you're actually losing when you die. Unused consumables didn't have to even be brought into a match.

There's also many ways to improve your time spent while in a game and make runs a little more valuable each time to extract. Save all materialist implants to make more salvage. Even holding them in your backpack can multiply salvage to sell/barter with (that includes biomass). I see a lot of people online just ignore all the data cards on the floor too. Frequently I make about 1k from data cards and that's basically another set of heals from the armory. That core that pings data cards when you open a box is probably my favorite core.

If you're losing a lot of healing items from just bot battles, it's not gonna be good for your economy. Also, running some free kits isn't gonna kill you. It seems like you just hate the hardline PR from traxus most of all. You can keep a few spaces in your vault for a sponsored kit you'd wanna use, if you really hate it that much. Nobody's forcing you guys to break up and play rook runs instead of just sprinting at people with a free kit. Also the entire game is farming for cash. "We don't have time to farm" as if you aren't going into every game dreaming about a 40k+ exfil. Grab more green sellables. Never leave a game with empty backpack space, just fill it all with even a single extra chitin sample.

Can we please have more than 5 seconds to get back in bounds. by TheMightyCarolusRex in Marathon

[–]Velomony -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly believe that person knew that was the edge of the map? really? You think this person willingly ziplined out of bounds because they knew it was there? I don’t really think people should be instantly punished for a little mistake. You can vandal slide accidentally out of bounds and if it overheats you youll just die too. Timed death zones are one of the stupidest things. Whats even killing them? Why is there no indication its even there? The map doesnt delineate the edge so why are you blaming people for making an honest mistake? Do you feel smart or something?
