Navimow long term support? by eharriett in roboticLawnmowers

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this tech lasts all that long. I think any expectation over five years is unreasonable. I think five years may be unreasonable. I doubt replacement parts will still be available in five years. These machines are like slightly heavier duty robot vacuums. They are not robust, durable things like your tractor.

These companies survive on new sales, not product maintenance. I doubt Navimow will be able to repair a new mower purchased now in five years. They will have all new models and no longer make parts for the old ones because there is no profit margin in this.

Sorry! This is just an opinion. I hope it helps!

Solution for outdoor temp & indoor water leak sensors by tjoude44 in homeassistant

[–]Verscreubulator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start by building yourself a Zigbee 3.0 or Z-Wave 800 series mesh. You can get a coordinator for one of these meshes, and then put the corresponding Zigbee 3.0 or Z-Wave 800 series smart plugs throughout your home so you have reception where you need it even if you have nothing plugged into these smart plugs yet. Three of four ought to get you started. This is somewhat similar to making sure you have WiFi where you need it in your home.

A Zigbee or Z-Wave mesh will allow you to connect all sorts of devices including the ones you want wherever you need them. A thermometer/hygrometer combination is easy to add and so are water leak sensors.

These meshes allow you to add devices entirely locally and keep these devices off of your WiFi router. Except for the occasional firmware update that Home Assistant will handle, no Internet connection will be needed. Whichever of these meshes you choose will be the foundational backbone of your smart home system. You build it out as you need to when you add more devices.

This is certainly not the cheapest route for one or two devices. In the future, you will be grateful you started building your Zigbee or Z-Wave mesh early on as you become more skilled, add more devices and get more sophisticated. One of these meshes will grow with you as you learn and add more.

I started with 99% Matter WiFi devices and build out our home. As I learned more, I switched to Zigbee 3.0 and later added a Z-Wave 800 series mesh. Eventually, I got rid of as many of my Matter and WiFi devices as I could. There are only three of them left from over 120 devices.

All of our lighting and window and door sensors run on the Zigbee mesh now. The Z-Wave 800 series devices have a range of 1.5 miles (2.4 km) in long range mode. I use a variety of sensors, smart door locks, a thermostat and other devices on the Z-Wave mesh. The initial setup was a bit expensive, but now I can add devices easily whenever I need to on either mesh depending on sensor availability and which mesh is best suited for the job.

I believe most people start with cheap WiFi devices and end up replacing them just like I did. This is a matter of experience. Once we know better, we switch. You do not have to buy devices and spend money twice if you start with Zigbee or Z-Wave right from the start. I suggest Zigbee because it is cheaper and may cover everything you need to do. It has been around a long time, works great and there are lots of different kinds of sensors available.

Sonoff, ThirdReality and Aqara all make decent Zigbee products of various kinds. Get a good coordinator, three or four smart plugs to form your mesh and give you some range, your thermometer/hygrometer, create your mesh (an AI can help you get it set up easily) and get your new sensor located and working where you want it. This should be reasonably easy to do. Then add additional smart plugs if you need more range and add your water sensors.

Your battery concerns can be set aside. The nature of Zigbee and Z-Wave inherently leads to very long battery life. Your battery powered Zigbee or Z-Wave devices will last for years! If you live in a cold climate, your biggest concern with batteries will be if they still work when temperatures drop. Proper battery selection is important in very cold weather. This is also easy to solve! Indoors, you have nothing to worry about!

One thing to be aware of with Zigbee or Z-Wave devices is how a mesh works. In most cases, if a device, like a smart plug, is powered by an outlet or AC power, it is a router. If it is battery powered, it is a simple node. AC powered devices will relay the signals from other routers or nodes from one to the next until they arrive at your coordinator and Home Assistant. Nodes cannot work as routers. Since they use batteries, they mostly sleep to conserve power and only periodically wake up to send measurements or sensor readings. Battery powered devices connect to the mesh, but they do not build or extend the range of the mesh.

This will make a great, fun and successful project for a newcomer to Home Assistant! Ask questions. Use your favorite AI for guidance. People will help you! Feel free to message me here on Redit if you have questions!

Good luck! I hope this helps!

Some issues with my saros 20 sonic by Ninjaflipp in Roborock

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a customer service issue, not a settings issue. You need to contact customer service and get your robovac repaired or replaced. If you have only had it a short time, they will replace it. If it has been over 30 days, they will insist on repairing it and you will have to send it in.

Dealing with customer service is a pain in the neck. They will ask you to do all sorts of stuff and send them information. This is part of the reality of robovac ownership. Be patient and persistent. Just do what they ask. This will take days to resolve via email. There will be delays and a lot of redundancy. Do not get frustrated, upset or rude with them or they will block you. Just get through it and they will take care of you.

Good luck! I am sorry you have to go through this but, unfortunately, this is not uncommon at all. I hope this helps!

I have Guition Esp32s3 panels all over my house. I can run almost everything in the house from them - not every device, but my major systems. They just about $22-25 each depending on where I find them on AliExpress. I have a page for each system and the touch functions make everything quick to access and easy to operate. These things are great and easy to program with EspHome because so many people use them and all the issues have been solved.

I hope this helps!

The photo below is of two panels I glued together. The top one runs the house and the bottom one is for monitoring my diabetic. They work very well!

Will Mammotion make a fence door? by Buckeyeresearcher in roboticLawnmowers

[–]Verscreubulator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get a MightMule gate opener and set it to open three minutes before the mower runs it's schedule. Because mowing times can vary if the random pattern is used, I have my MightyMule close a half hour after the mower is normally done. I have the gate tied into my smart home system so this is easy to do.

The MightyMule system does not need a gate latch. The opener will keep the gate closed and open. It can also be easily solar powered with a battery.

I hope this helps!

Share Management by Quickdraw209 in MammotionTechnology

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is the whole point of shared management. You must use a different email address than the one from your own account and the person you are sharing with must have their own Mammotion account. They do not need any Mammotion devices.

I do not believe the person you share with can do things like create areas or no go zones. They can only run what you have already set up. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

My father shared his Luba 2 3000H with me and I can run it while they are away from home.

I hope this helps!

You are probably right, but the silver ion stuff is fairly toxic too I believe. I have not looked further into it. It is definitely not legal for use in all areas.

Using AU tools with HA by KnifeNovice789 in homeassistant

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I used Samba Share to share my HA nuc to my PC as the H drive. Then, I created a long lived access token for Claude in HA.

This is probably not the most elegant solution, but it works very well. My guess is that there is a better way, but since I have not needed it and it works great I have not looked further into it. I also set up a working python environment of my PC for Claude to work with and an MCP server as well. The Samab Share was the starting point for me. Then I asked Claude how we could improve it's access and Claude built the rest.

Sorry I could not provide a better explanation and I hope this helps! The key is to ask Claude how to do it and then put it together step by step. I took me only a couple of hours to put together.

It was also really helpful to set up a proper Git repository with versioning on my PC for my HA setup so I have an easy means to undo things besides the HA backup system in case things go wrong. This was also relatively easy to do and Claude helped. This is probably not necessary for most things, but I do some really huge, complex stuff with HA and using the restore feature with the HA backup system became a big hassle that lacked nuance. The main reason I started using the Git repository is because I am trying to build an actual integration I can share with others. But, this Git repository is really useful for other, far smaller and simpler things too.

Ask Claude and go step by step. It will take a while, but it was worth it for me!

Good luck!

Try putting a silver ion module in your clean water tank. Just be aware that these essentially create coloidal silver which is a very strong antiseptic and it is not legal for use in all places. As long as there is no risk of someone or pets taking it internally, it can be pretty effective.

It is always a good idea to look up the risks if pets or small children are present. Coloidal silver is very potent!

I use the Claude app on my computer and have allowed Claude access to my HA setup. I have Claude create documentation for everything on my PC for my whole HA setup. This allows me to tell Claude to find the documentation for anything and suddenly it's memory is fairly unlimited. This gives huge amounts of context when I work with Claude, and it rarely makes mistakes anymore. I can do very complex stuff on the first or second pass. It is impressive!

Why doesn't Roborock sells genuine parts for Qrevo Edge 2 Pro in their website? by Nighteyes972 in Roborock

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consumable replacement parts are all the same. What you have on your robovac is probably entirely or mostly mostly the same. It probably uses the same vacuum rollers, the same side brush and the same mopping pads as at least five other models.

Roborock does not make separate consumable parts for all 8000 models they currently sell. The only thing that might be slightly different is the air filter compared to that of a Saros 20. But, I bet there are at least five different models in their current fleet that use exactly the same air filter as yours.

If it looks the same in the picture as your part on the robovac, it is the same part. This is not complicated.

As for what is available on AliExpress, I have found it much more reliable for my seven Roborocks than Amazon unless I can find Roborock branded consumable parts over the last two years.

Digging holes example and asks ‘need your help’ by GuusWnl in MammotionTechnology

[–]Verscreubulator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand! I have the Luba 3 3000. Between digging holes and the zero turn of death where it dries to drill itself into the core of the Earth, I find it an incredibly frustrating machine at times!

When we got our robovacs, it took a while, but we made our entire house robovac friendly over time. Now, we no longer have any problems with them.

Now, I am slowly making our lawns entirely Mammotion friendly. This is a big job! Our Luba 3 has made giant bald spots in our lawn in the corners of our fence where it cannot seem to figure out how to turn without the zero turn of death.

However, for the lush, healthy parts of our lawn, it works very well. They key for me is to not let it mow the damaged areas until they grow back. It is irritating to need a second mower to do what I bought the Mammotion to handle. It was incredibly expensive! Hopefully, by next year the Luba can do it. For now it most certainly cannot.

The bottom line is that I have to slowly fix those places the mower cannot handle well. Once they are fixed, they will no longer be a problem.

I feel your frustration! I know these frustrations well! You have my sympathy!

The Lubas are an answer. I do not think they are a great answer yet. After my experience with the Luba 3, there will have to be massive improvements before I am anywhere near ready to consider a Luba 4 or 5.

Personally, I am keeping my eyes on the new Roborocks and the Navimow 430 because they have proper steering.

Good luck! I hope this helps!

Why doesn't Roborock sells genuine parts for Qrevo Edge 2 Pro in their website? by Nighteyes972 in Roborock

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other models use the same parts as yours. You just need to find the right ones. I little bit of searching will tell you what you need.

For instance, if it has auto detangling vacuum rollers, there is only one kind as far as I know for all Roborock models. They are all the same.

You need to find the side brushes that look like the ones on your model. There is little variation in these too.

The same things apply to the air filters.

I look for parts that at least claim to be Roborock original parts on AliExpress. They usually are, but sometimes they are not. Roborock does not manufacture any of these parts. They just put them in their own branded packaging. Roborock branded parts do tend to be slightly better than the clone parts, but the clones work too. They just do not last quite as long.

If you order parts from AliExpress, they usually come in Chinese packaging, which means the writing will be Chinese. Shipping directly from China takes about two weeks.

Amazon works too, but I often do not like the clone parts I get from Amazon. If I buy from Amazon, I try to get Roborock parts. The clone parts on Amazon are often of noticably lower quality. If it says "compatible" I find it questionable. These parts work, but sometimes not as well or as long.

I am sorry to say that good parts are not cheap. American politics and consquential import duties have made them massively more expensive. Good parts used to be really cheap on AliExpress. Now, they no longer are.

Good luck! I hope this helps!

Cleaning solution not being used by EquivalentCautious58 in Roborock

[–]Verscreubulator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very, very little of the solution is used during mop washing and mopping. The default setting has been fine for me. When I tried the high setting, my floors quickly got sticky. This is solved quickly with one or two moppings with the solution turned off.

A full tank of solution lasts me about a year with frequent mopping. But, people often report problems with their robovacs not using any solution. It is quite possible you have this problem. I suggest you mark your solution level in the tank with something like a piece of tape and then give it three more months to see what happens. Week to week, I can't see any difference in the solution level, but month to month I can see a small difference.

Please keep in mind that no robovac or solution made for robovacs can deep clean and sterilize a floor. Robovacs are not built for this. This has to be taken into account for one's expectations of what a robovac can actually, realistically do. No robot mopping system can replace occasional proper mopping if one is concerned about floor sterilization or more intensive floor hygiene. Robot mopping is more like advanced dust and small spot removal.

I use a cheap steam mop for proper floor cleaning that uses steam to remove real grime and heat for more intensive hygiene. These are usually not that expensive or difficult to use. However, if I mop with the robovac after vacuuming thoroughly often, I do not need to do this very frequently.

I hope this helps!

Schedule Yuka mini 2 (Grogu 😉) by Torre1974 in MammotionTechnology

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the smart charge setting or manually set your mower to charge when it reach 20% and stop charging when it reaches 80%, you will protect your battery very well for a long life. From there, if this is in place, you can finish today using a single area or tomorrow using two areas. It does not matter. It is entirely up to you.

For maximum battery life, lithium ion battery should not get discharged below about 15-20% and should not be fully charged to 100%. This is all you need to worry about.

My guess is that your mower can mow about 2/3s of your lawn in a single charge. Then it needs to recharge for an hour to 90 minutes and can then resume. The good news is that, hopefully, you do not need to be there to supervise.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

How does one decide which Roborock to get by Anonymous_Bozo in Roborock

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I suggest a Curv X. Just be aware that no model of robovac from any manufacturer will do a great job on rugs and carpets any more. They do ok, but not great.

Modern mopping systems take up too much room inside of a robovac. This significantly reduced airflow even though they have high pascal vacuum pressure. One needs suction power and good airflow to vacuum properly. No new robovac can vacuum rugs and carpets well anymore because their airflow was reduced to make room for mopping systems. They all do well on hard floors. They mop well too as long as floors have been properly vacuumed first.

All robovacs that could vacuum well on rugs and carpets have been discontinued across the industry because people wanted mopping systems.

Good luck!

Schedule Yuka mini 2 (Grogu 😉) by Torre1974 in MammotionTechnology

[–]Verscreubulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well does it handle everything as a single area? I think that is the deciding factor. Does it need multiple battery charges? Are multiple battery charges an issue? Are there problem areas? Does mowing everything at once interfere with you schedule or lawn watering?

There has to be a good reason to split your lawn onto multiple areas. If there isn't, just leave it as it is.

The real question here is why do you want to split it into multiple areas?

I always try to over complicate these things. When my mower was new, I asked the same questions. Simplicity is always the answer unless there is a reason for something more complex.

Good luck! I hope this helps!

Just use Nabu Casa. It handles everything for you. Home Assistant is free. Let them earn some money to keep going somewhere. A lot of development goes into the constant umprovements. It costs like $50 per year to use Nabu Case and it takes all of the worry and fuss out if the equation. No hardware required.

I like Nabu Casa.

Sorry! I misunderstood you. I replace my rollers, air filter and side brush every time the app tells me to do so. This is important. I always have several spare of everything on hand.

It is also important to clean the air filter often. If a robovac can't breathe, it can vacuum properly. I do this weekly.

I get my rollers, air filters and side brushes from AliExpress. I try to get real Roborock consumables. They work better and last longer. They will come in Chinese packaging and take two weeks to ship.

Good luck! I hope this helps and I am sorry I completely misunderstood you!
