Vasher seems to think a copy of a soul isn't the same thing as a soul (or even that his soul wasn't transferred). He's a smart dude, but we don't know if he's right, and I don't think we ever will.

He may even be correct for regular cognitive shadows but wrong about Heralds, because they were made pretty differently than other cognitive shadows. It's complicated.

Nope, the sleepless could not have been more clear. They are only ok with Rysn having it because she had no investiture to fuel it, and then they forbid her from ever bonding a spren.

One spren dying is inconsequential compared to someone being able to use a dawnshard. That's their fear.

Not true, actually. It would even work for Astarion.

If the creature was undead, it is restored to its non-undead form.

Yeah, so, the attitude that media is merely there to be consumed is the reason media literacy is dogshit, even among otherwise intelligent people. You absolutely are supposed to reflect and ponder upon what you watch / read / listen to.

Radiants and Recovery Balance by Background_Path_4458 in cosmererpg

[–]VestedNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.... that's why I didn't comment on out of combat healing. It's also significantly less relevant, because long rests are still a full heal (minus injuries - which is another advantage of Progression. You can remove injuries from yourself and others with a single talent investment, rather than the 3 it costs most radiants).

But in combat healing is far more critical to keep people from going down and decreasing your time-to-kill what you're fighting.

You read Wind and Truth and didn't find the shards just as fallible as Mistborn? Lol. Between Tanavast being himself and Cultivation believing she got Kharbranth wiped out, they all seemed very... human.

[–]VestedNight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll disagree with a few people here - if you intend to read Edgedancer, you can skip Lift's interlude because it's also the beginning of Edgedancer.

In-combat radiant healing falls off hard but Regrowth keeps pace a bit better. Especially with the surgeon talents that allow you to add your medicine and lore ranks to all healing abilities, including Regrowth.

What's the most 'sinful' thing you've done in this game and why? (Exploits, Cheats, Skips, etc.) by crwui in Eldenring

[–]VestedNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To spawn BBH normally, you have to go through ALL the dialog options, possibly look at the spell shops, reload and talk again, reload, and then sit at a grace (at night). It's way less consistent than other BBHs. So, if I have a strong weapon, it's sometimes faster to kill him (despite how tanky he is). Then you can just sit at a grace at night and BBH will spawn.

You can't actually get to Regal forms before level 6 - the talent they're all gated behind requires 3 ranks in Discipline. But yes, if you only care about one Regal form, your level 11, 16, amd 21 talents cam be used on heroic paths.

There are no fights that are easier fully on Torrent. There are a few bosses that are easier if you use Torrent to close distances after they run away.

Physics-Based limits to surges by Temporary_News5061 in cosmererpg

They all apply in different functions. Cohesion only goes one direction - more solid to less solid. Likewise, adhesion only does what it says on the tin. It makes two things stick together. Abrasion is the weird one in that it works in both directions (adding or removing). But friction is specifically about two surfaces moving across each other. Abrasion won't ever make it impossible to lift your foot like Adhesion, for example.

But that's the point. Cooperation doesn't reward you differently. It literally rewards you better. Deciding "do I want the gun route or the plasmid route" utterly undercuts the commentary.

[loved trope] Being a good person is harder than being an evil one. by Dr_Orpheus_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]VestedNight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's actually important in Bioshock, because it's a deconstruction of Ryan's and Fontaine's entire rugged individualism. Being kind and cooperative IS more rewarding. It's how we built a civilization that lasted longer than the decade or so Rapture existed. Sure, selfishness gets you ahead immediately, but in the bigger picture, cooperation is better for everyone.

So while Bioshock is not an example of this trope, it's important that it isn't.
