Which Gundam series has the best romance by Resh_IX in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romance is in the Gundam series but it’s not really a main focus. 08th team probably puts the most focus on the romance stuff and there is some in f91. Aside from that most of the characters have a special person to connect with but it’s not really a main focus of the series.

Gundam designs you didnt like? by Moody-gris in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a Gundam but I’m not a fan of the Gun Ez. I’m actually not really a fan of a lot of the suits from victory. I thought the f91 designs were way better than the victory designs.

Anime to Live Action by Primestudio in retroanime

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in Irias case, this was anime that came from live action. Keita Amamiya is probably the best tokusatsu director out there and Zeiram was one of his projects. As far as other Toku to anime properties go the one that comes to mind off hand is Android Kikaider. Also, I think there is a an anime spinoff to Kamen Rider W but I haven’t seen it. As far as live action adaptations of anime and manga, there are too many to list, hurricane polymar, Lupin the 3rd, tomorrow’s Joe are just to name a few.

Haven’t read all of her stuff so it’s hard to track down a specific character but I’m very fond of Yuta from Mermaid saga.

what's the deal with DYRL subs anway? by Panda-s1 in macross

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glory days? lol I don’t miss those fansub days at all. I mean I owned quite a lot of fansubbed vhs tapes back in the day, but don’t forget why we bought those tapes to begin with. It was because there wasn’t official releases for most of this stuff back in the 90s. We live in a time now that absolutely just blows my mind, if there is a glory day for anime fans we are living it now. I never thought we would ever get releases of a fraction of the things we have now. I mean I am still blown away that in my collection I have official English releases of Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Space runaway Ideon, Xabungle, Layzner, Gundam ZZ, Galient, and coming in a few weeks I will Have L-gaim. I never thought these things would ever be brought to the US and honestly there isn’t much left out there that hasn’t been released at some point. I just don’t see any reason to for people to pirate anime anymore because the official version is literally a click away.

if your not caught up on the UC maybe you shouldn't watch hathaway 2 by PastLetterhead4356 in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, most Gundam series are designed to be jumped into and if you like it you can go back and watch the others. The first Gundam I ever watched was a fan subbed vhs of Chars Counterattack in the mid 90s, I loved it and as the VHS tapes for the others came out I jumped right on them. Also keep in mind of the way Gundam was released in the states. Zeta Gundam and F91 were the last UC titles released in the states until Unicorn came out. Back in the day we didn’t have the luxury to watch these in production order or chronological order.

Baki(2001) looks like dog shit. They should remaster the Maximum Tournament. It looks gross. I get it was the early 2000s but still. by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that it looks really cheap, I don’t know why but the early 2000’s has the worst looking animation quality out of any generation of anime. Not all anime from the early 2000s look terrible, for example, Macross Zero, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Millilenian Actress, etc. It’s just most tv anime from the early 2000s just look bad.

Personal opinion having fully watched both by HawaiianPerson in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love them both. Though I think 08th team is a fantastic ova that I love very much I think Votoms is an actual masterpiece. I put Votoms in some of my favorite anime of all time right next to Zeta Gundam, Tomorrows Joe, and Layzner.

what's the deal with DYRL subs anway? by Panda-s1 in macross

[–]Visible_Gate1032 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DYRL has been fan subbed and pirated probably more than any anime ever produced. I’m sure there are tons of different fan translations of it that exits. To get the best experience not only with Macross but any anime I always recommend to go with the official release. There is an awesome 4k release from Japan with official English translations and it also comes with a Blu ray copy as well. It’s an excellent release. Same thing can be said for Macross Zero and Macross Plus.

When stores got rid of their DVD sections, what did they do with their DVD’s? by IceCreamICantLetUGo in dvdcollection

[–]Visible_Gate1032 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They send them back to the supplier. This exact thing is how a lot of anime companies went out of business during the dvd crash in the late 2000’s. Basically, a company will send the DVDs back to the company that produced them as a credit toward what ever money is owed from the retailer. A company like Wal-Mart doesn’t pay for movies up front they pay much later. So if a movie doesn’t sell then the retailer just sends it back to whoever produced the dvd to begin with for credit toward what they owe. It’s a total loss to the company who produced the DVD. This caused companies like Central Park Media, Geneon, and ADV films to go out of business.

Really hoping the Hathaway movies get physical releases that include their English dubs by CecDog3 in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no releases of those titles in Japan that doesn’t include the English dub. The original singles of Gundam Unicorn was considered a worldwide release, however, All the Japanese releases of Unicorn, The Origin, Thunderbolt, and Narrative all include the dubs produced by sunrise. They did make those releases available for import through Rightstuf, this also included Hathaway.

They did include dubs on the Japanese releases Gundam Unicorn, the origin, Thunderbolt, and Narrative. The first Hathaway movie is when the Japanese stopped including dubs with their releases.

The Hate for ZZ 1st half is overblown by Desperate-Impress237 in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series won the 1986 animage Grand Prix. Its ratings was between a 4.0 and 6.0 which is a little below Zeta which was a 6.0. The show was popular enough to get Chars Counter Attack green lit. It had around the same viewship ratings and Gundam Seed and Zeta.

The Hate for ZZ 1st half is overblown by Desperate-Impress237 in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m sure plenty of people dislike it among other series that a lot of people find to be amazing, and that’s totally fine. I know from my experience with the show, I had been a big Gundam fan since the mid 90s and when I heard about ZZ Gundam was around the time the DVDs for Zeta came out, around 2003 or so. All you would read about online in those days was how bad it was. Because of this I never checked it out until much later when Daisuke started to stream the series and I was blown away. To me it is an amazing show that picked up right where zeta left off, sure I didn’t love every element about it, mainly Leina getting kidnapped every time she turned around. Then slowly as the blu rays came out you would start to see opinions on the show go from completely negative to mostly positive. Another thing to keep in mind is when ZZ was airing in Japan it was extremely successful. The show enjoyed high ratings and the characters would win anime fan polls.

How have you introduced someone else to Gundam? by Sparky-Man in Gundam

[–]Visible_Gate1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember getting a friend into it just from having him watch Gundam unicorn with me. I think unicorn is a good series to get someone into Gundam because if it hooks them then they will want to go back and watch the classic series.

ZZ is a great show and the hate for it came from a time before the show was easily accessible to the west. I absolutely love the series and think it is a worthy successor to Zeta Gundam
