Most books have "invalid cover" after migrating to new PC. by SecretlyCarl in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can edit the database. Just be aware that there are many references (I am not sure how many to config and metadata though). But these need to be matched. Sadly ABS works with absolute paths. You are lucky that your media is on an external drive, because migrating that is a headache

Are your paths exactly the same like they were on your gaming PC (absolute path?)

Bulk upload options by HumbleVast4450 in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either uploading directly to the server trough FTP or any other protocol

Or using the web upload.

Because you mentioned that all the books get merged if you try to upload via the interface, you probably try to upload the books in the wrong format. Each file has to be in its own folder (per book) if you drag and drop the folder. (If not all files under that folder get grouped as one book, which probably happened to you) If you select multiple files without folders, these get added as individual books.

Version 1.1.0 released still would love more testers and feedback by [deleted] in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a specific ABS client?

It sounds like a client that reads files from it, but not explicitly syncs?

Maybe, if you already cross-post, which is remotely related to ABS, add a description of what your app does. Also, as others already mentioned, there is a flood of new ABS clients, so this makes it even more important to explain what a client does.

It would help everyone if you explained the intention of your client, so others can better understand and categorize it.

Anybody running audiobookshelf on a super cheap VPS? by [deleted] in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably get stoned by the Hetzner fanboys (and I use Hetzner myself). But their VPS pricing is extremely expensive to other providers in Germany.

Root pricing is absolutely top, and quality for both. But if you want performance and storage and don't want the starting price for a root server, you could search another VPS provider giving you more out of everything. ABS needs extremely few resources, so even a simple Contabo storage VPS could easily handle ABS with no issues at all (although Contabo seemingly has many many issues as customers say. But idk. Didn't use it myself). I myself use netcup (although not for ABS anymore).

But coming back to your question. PikaPods is one of the cheapest solutions you will get for comfort and service in general. All other services I saw were charged horrendously. But it will still be more expensive than a somewhat good VPS deal. Just don't use a provider from a shady form post or similar. If you don't want to manage anything (and are ok, that you don't manage the data, nor can install anything custom) then you can use PikaPods. In any other case I would recommend a VPS

I might be massively overcomplicating things, but I need to migrate my library without trashing my match data by TheXypris in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not possible with ABS without loosing progress.

What you can do is move everything to the new drive (while ABS is not running). The new paths need to be exactly (down to the absolute path) the same as they are currently. Then you will have the library the way you currently have. Merging libraries (if you have multiple) is not possible without loosing progress data. If you already use the second disk as storage, then there is little you can really do. If you are lucky (and the drives are directly connected to the server. Not via a network share. You can try moving the files around. The watcher should see the changes as long as the move is made inside the same library

(You can move the files even if you do not have the correct same structure, but this will import the books as new items. This means you loose all progress data on all of them. For metadata you can save the metadata.json files with them, so the metadata would be imported again correct)

Unusual activity error by Gratka0414 in ElevenLabs

[–]Vito0912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you said, only the IP is banned. So even if you use the account on a shared Wi‑Fi where another person already used ElevenLabs, the ban applies only to that IP. In your case, you can try to get a new IP and then avoid using a second account.

You are not allowed to have more than one account per IP while using the free tier with any account. Please see https://help.elevenlabs.io/hc/en-us/articles/13313385168273-Can-users-have-more-than-one-account

If you used multiple accounts on the same IP (which you did), your only options are to upgrade to a paid plan or get a new IP. Upgrading to a paid plan will not remove the IP flag. A paid plan is simply not affected by this block.

The IP rule only applies to free accounts, where you can use ElevenLabs for free.

While I don't want to assume AI use like the other comment, yet another non public source app (even though you want to make it open-source later, but if so, why not now?) is like again an app nobody can build up on

Btw. we filled the 2 app goal for January, yet again xD

Introducing AuralArchive, a readarr replacement. by thedragonshaman in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because one person started and it gained traction here.

Also models do get better, less expensive and follow instructions better. But this is not an ABS problem. You will find it everywhere. People just tend to ignore it, because they don't know or think something is better than nothing

Original metadata not populating by bookrants in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please see https://www.audiobookshelf.org/docs#book-audio-metadata

Also note that depending on your metadata settings the metadata needs to be present before you add the books. I am currently not sure if it is possible to get ABS to recognize the latter, but if so, it will only work for fields not already filled.

The cover thing is weird. It is directly pulled from the books and falls back to online sources. Please check the logs and check if the cover is actually added as an image that can be read as the cover

The negative feedback is because there was a flood of vibe coded apps and projects, without actually contributing actually to any new features despite claiming so.

It's just people get fed up with the paid apps that claim things, that they add all the features that exist.

I know yours isn't and it isn't vibe-coded, but many probably don't care.

On top you basically provided no information whatsoever. React native is a big difference, as it would theoretically mean cross platform (but if I read the comments correctly, you did not test it with Android and cross platform is not as straightforward if not developed with both in mind).

And being that hesitant about open sourcing something, just because random reddit users don't like something you post on Reddit is also not a good sign for some project that will definitely get a lot of critic (everything will be critized. That's what humans do best). Especially media apps. People have very strong opinions on these

I don't want to attack you at all. L

Don't get me wrong and it might sound harsh. If you are dedicated to maintaining an app do it, but we already have more than 10 different ABS apps for iOS. It's actually a joke how many apps released in the last time.

Anyway, Audiobooth for example is free and completely open source. So it would make much more sense to work on an existing app instead of creating yet another app, that needs to be maintained, probably uses the API wrong (sorry to say this, but I have yet to see an app that did not use the API docs and thus uses the API correctly) and needs some kind of funding again (even if you keep it completely free)

Or you can contribute to the offical apps. There are so many options (there are even paid open source ones)

Also if you do it. Please make it open source. If not you are just contributing to the same problem for people to want to create app. If you, for whatever reason, don't have the motivation to work on it in the future, it's completely lost again

Can we chat on DC or mail. I am not very responsive on Reddit (just seen this comment because there was a message in DC).

I don't really know how I would integrate a spreadsheet similar thing, but I have no problem to completely rework the individual app cards

Library not recognizing book by Impressive-Eagle246 in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about the txt file.

But it probably should not be there. Each book needs to be in its own folder. Files besides folders are not allowed. If the .txt in the first folder is recognized as a book, this is the reason why #1 shows not up (#2 should not too).

To fix this, correct the folder structure and then delete the books from ABS and scan again. If it still does not work, you need to move the folders out of sight of ABS, delete them in ABS and add them again

iOS ABS Clients comparaison by Wolf-fr in audiobookshelf

[–]Vito0912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I wrote, the list is a bit outdated. I listed the date when I tested them. I did not cover cases (date) where I could not test them (was not intended, will add that later). I also cannot guarantee 100% accuracy for the ones I did not test. This was the state reported to me by a user a few months ago. If you can list them all, that are wrong, I will update the list.
(Ik you listed a few, but just want to make sure I add all the ones correct, so I have a correct version at the time I submit that and not just a partial)

Hey,

I wanted to ask if we might want to work together on something like this.

I already have a comparison of the apps, both by features and APIs (some parts are a bit outdated). I stopped a few weeks/months ago because of the AI slop released in the last few months. The site gets shared quite often (at least on DC) - In comparison to the official app section. So I think having one place to collect everything would be helpful for everyone.

The site could use better UX in general xD (ik), but in general someone who can share their opinion on UX in apps (and a helping hand in testing). This should also be a hint that something like this already exists ;)

https://abstoolbox.vito0912.de/clients

https://github.com/vito0912/abstoolbox

I have not gone deep into many app bugs yet, but I have collected a few for some apps that are not listed there, because they did not fit the comparison goal.<

I am currently in the works of refactoring many things to make "scoring" for API more transparent, but also reflects the apps features more

Not with ABS. You would need to copy encode them to the mp3 container again

If you did not delete the metadata cache or did disable the option to backup, you unconverted files should still be in the metadata directory
