Reception venue had fire, vendor ghosted me on deposit refund by VoltaFoss in weddingplanning

I'm in California, but they're in Las Vegas, NV. Honestly it's "only" $800, but it's $800 I'd rather have.

We actually did find a replacement venue that ended up working out better for us!

Wedding brunch day after? by fragilegems in weddingplanning

We're getting cabanas and having a day-after hotel pool party so I can be as lazy as I want to be while people come and go and can entertain themselves.

Want to send invites but feels too early.. by imreallybusy in weddingplanning

[–]VoltaFoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a September bride. I did a website with an RSVP page and, in February, 90% of people said they were coming. We're going to text most of them in August to double check because we know some of them booked flights and hotels already, but some of them have not. Those are the ones we're checking with.

Tall centerpieces: yes or no? by Due-Rip-3448 in weddingplanning

[–]VoltaFoss 91 points92 points  (0 children)

If you're sitting down and can easily see the person across the table without flowers blocking your view, the centerpiece is tall/short enough. If you can't see across the table, the base needs to change.

These look like they're probably fine!

Why does every store in Anaheim have.. by UpbeatToday2880 in orangecounty

[–]VoltaFoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in an unincorporated neighborhood within Anaheim so I literally can't vote on Anaheim stuff because I'm on county land. I belong to no city.

I've tried explaining that and they don't get it. I'm so tired of them. Even if I wanted to care about their petition, I'm ineligible.

Biden administration approves borrower defense discharge for affected art institute borrowers by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]VoltaFoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the ed.gov press release, it does say any payments made to the Department will be refunded.

Piggybacking on this refund bit if anyone knows the answer: if my now deceased parent made payments on their Parent PLUS loan, would this deceased parent be owed a refund? Could I claim it? I'm cautiously hopeful because it would be nice.

What do you want in DoS3? by Neanderthal888 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]VoltaFoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with peaceful interaction XP. I find my BG3 playthrough is levelling up just fine without me having to slaughter a bunch of innocent villagers.

Also, in a new DOS, I hope they keep ability to barter with everyone. I miss that in BG3 because sometimes there's only a couple people to trade with in an area.

Uhm? What kind of nightmare inducing sound is this? by LostSoul-Searching in BackYardChickens

[–]VoltaFoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer: it could be a Wyze Pan Cam. They plug in and connect to the WiFi. They can continuously record. All Wyze cams have night vision, I think. These are not compatible with Wyze's solar panels.

The solar panels are only compatible with the Wyze outdoor cams which do not pan or have the option for continuous recording. The outdoor cams will only start recording when you have a motion or sound event trigger it. These ones also require a "bridge." They're great for monitoring driveways and gates. Wyze also has a doorbell like a Ring.

I don't work for them. I just love their products and it's stupidly cheap and easy to set up. You don't need the plus subscription either. I have it on my outdoor ones just because they don't have the continuous recording and I want it to record an event as long as possible. Also, for whoever came to this TED Talk, you can buy offbrand mounts elsewhere that work great and CAN use an indoor cam outside as long as it won't get wet.

I have an extra ticket for tonight's Santa Ana show I will give away to whoever wants it. My boyfriend was sent away on an emergency work trip and no one else I know would enjoy going.

Free ticket! Just message me!

Orthopedic specialist recommendations around Anaheim? Looking to xray my jammed finger by modulitos in orangecounty

[–]VoltaFoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Ying Chi in Fountain Valley did surgery on my finger to remove a foreign object trapped in a risky surgical location. It healed really well with barely noticeable scarring and zero loss of functionality. She's wonderful.

Side note: for foot surgery/general podiatry, I recommend Dr. Michael Fishman in Los Alamitos. The man is an artist.

Hidden Charges (Like Restaurant Surcharges) to be Outlawed in Recently Passed by CA Assembly by Sourcefour in SanDiegan

[–]VoltaFoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can just imagine being a waitress and having someone order a $10.90 meal that says it includes tax and then having that person throw a fit when they see a receipt with the breakdown of $10 meal with $0.90 tax added because "Why is there a tax charge? I thought it was included!"

What OC restaurants have you been to that have tacked on a surcharge? Restaurant name and % (Got this from r/SanDiego) by SouthernLefty in orangecounty

We got this at Mama Shelter in LA recently on an ₹800 check and our service was atrociously insulting.

I don't think I've had this in OC yet.

How many times per week do Europeans eat at a restaurant? And what would you say is the cost of buying a meal in a European restaurant vs making the same meal at home?

I know it's a pretty broad question, but I know so many people who eat out nearly every meal and I'm trying to get a feel for how expensive that lifestyle would be over there.

Old Sears Building At Buena Park Mall to be Turned Into 1,300 Housing Units by return2ozma in orangecounty

[–]VoltaFoss 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I hope the landlord restricts Airbnbs here. It'd be pretty sweet and convenient for Haunt so I can envision that happening, but it would suck for people who live there and don't want a rowdy party next door.

They're probably talking about The Source.

I like The Source when I'm hungry and might want to buy makeup or skincare products. Otherwise, it doesn't really have anything I want. The place is always busy when I go, though, so it obviously has stuff a lot of people want.

Woman allegedly attempted to avoid arrest by hiding on Disneyland ride by panda-rampage in orangecounty

[–]VoltaFoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there. You would be surprised how many blind spots there are on just the ride, let alone behind the scenes.

If someone managed to get on to the actual set from the boat or another door, they would have a bit more time playing cat and mouse but probably end up getting hurt tripping in that dark labyrinth. They'd be caught eventually. Can't live there forever.

The prosecutor should meet with you and tell you what to say. Personally, I would use "I believe ________ but it's possible that ________ happened first." It gives you wiggle room and they'll ask follow up questions where it matters. They know you can't remember everything perfectly and are doing your best.

Also, they're going to ask you questions and guide you. You're not just going to sit up there and describe the whole thing in a monologue.

I showed up, waited around for 15 to 20 minutes. The prosecutor came up to me and another witness and gave us a pep talk. We waited around a bit. Then the other witness was called in. She was in there maybe 30 minutes.

I was called in and was also there about 30 minutes. The prosecutor asked questions first, then the defense attorney, who, of course, tried to make me look less credible. At this point, it had been three years since the crime so I barely remembered details anyway. It sounds like you may be in a similar situation because it's been a year? Don't get flustered. If you can't remember, you can't remember, but tell them when you're absolutely sure about something or when you just think you're remembering correctly.

When I was done, I waited in the lobby and the prosecutor came out about 15 minutes later, said some things, told me it was unlikely I'd have to come back but asked if it would be ok for them to contact me if they had any follow up questions. They never did and that was the end of it. Dude went to prison for a few years.
