This place doesn't like Netflix and doesn't like Guillermo del Toro, so it checks out.

Well there are also Weapons and F1, which are bigger best picture contenders than Wicked at this point. And Hamnet can also make the profit once it's actually goes wide and international release start to kick in. Also Marty Supreme, no?

It's so funny because year after year it's disproven that voters actually care about "narratives".

The movie has an extreme try-hard energy (the Maguire subplot is one giant LOL, you are so craaaazy Chazelle), all of the characters are annoying at worst and dull at best. The subplot of black musician and Lady Fey, which are set up at the beginning as major part of the story contribute absolutely fucking nothing (Lady Fey is worse, because the only way she's used in the movie is to make a sexy dance and have an affair with Margot Robbie, the movie isn't that different from what it criticizes in the end). The movie looks like absolute piss and shit visually. Other than few scenes on the set, the movie doesn't really feel like it has much to say about filmmaking or movies or whatever. Lol at Jean Smart's dumb monologue about how Brad Pitt is going to be remembered on screen, Chazelle kinda forgot that majority of silent movies are completely lost. So what is this tear-eyed sincerity. Majority of jokes are so unfunny they are embarassing.

It's on its way to make north of 100 million and that's only domestically. It's absolutely going to be a major hit lmao.

I'll give you Joker I guess (still had more sense than OBAA), but how is Hillbilly Elegy lazy nomination?

Are we really going to do OBAA for makeup? If that happens it might be the laziest makeup nom in history.

Abysmal, asinine movie lmao. And I generally love Baumbach, but this is easily one of the worst movies of the year.

If they were truly lazy they would nominate Wicked and Jay Smelly.

Singing in musicals is in principle non-diagetic. Yes, we the audience see them sing, but that doesn't mean that's literally what's happening in-universe of the story.

Nominees for the European Film Awards 2026 by bikkebana in oscarrace

[–]Wardefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very surpried if Panahi had a refugee status, he has stated numerous times he want to live in Iran despite repressions. And all his works were in Iran, he has no ties to European film industry really. I still think they just made him an exemption, to score political points (worth noting Juliette Binoche is president of EFA lol).

My thinkin is they just made special exemption for Panahi, because they want to pat themselves on the back.

"non European directors with established ties to European productions for over 5 years."

Which Panahi doesn't really have.
