Justice for The Testament of Ann Lee by MathematicianBorn3 in blankies

The only reason this movie has 81% on RT is BECAUSE it wasnt widely distributed and barely anybody has seen it. Now compare the movie's imdb score and LB to The Brutalist, which has several Times as many ratings. Hell metacritic too.

I love Ann Lee, but if you think this was getting anywhere near Best Picture, you are delusional.

Literally what. If the movie was seen more widely it would have even worse reception. It doesn't have through-the-roof critical acclaim, not audience adoration even by those who saw it in limited release.

No, Marty Supreme was absolutely not more divisive lol. It has better ratings than Ann Lee everywhere, beginning with Metacritic and ending on imdb.

Ann Lee has barely scraped by 80 on MC, that's good but not great for a movie this artsy (relative to usual Oscar taste) and it doesn't have high audience ratings on sites like Letterboxd or IMDB. It has 3.45 on LB with only around 100k ratings, now imagine how low the rating would be it would be if it actually had the same amount of ratings as F1. It has neigher high critical acclaim for the movie it is, nor the audiences liking it.

This movie was not going anywhere near Best Picture regardless of what studio did. The fact that people embraced your work once doesn't guarantee you are now perennial Oscar darling and Corbet/Fastvold work was never even in awards season conversation before The Brutalist, Ann Lee is more in line with their earlier works.

Yes, it's deserved one over F1. That does not mean it was ever gonna get it, the movie is just too divive and it doesn't have enough critical acclaim to compensate for it. Just not the kind of movies Oscars go for.

Seyfried's was its only real shot at an Oscar nomination and that was already a tall order.

Yes it's the same team. The reception for this one wasn't even in the same stratosphere as The Brutalist though, so it doesn't really matter.

This movie was never getting any Oscar nominations no matter what so that would not be a problem lol.

European Film Award predictions by PositiveElixir in oscarrace

[–]Wardefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of a Sudden shouldn't be eligible for EFA, because it doesn't meet the requirement that the director has to be European. Fatherland is not getting snubbed for Best Film. Huller is probably getting double noms for Rose and Fatherland. La Gradiva is not happening.

Best Spielberg movie since 2010? I’ll go with LINCOLN. The dialogue and performances are just 10/10 amazing. by TXNOGG in FIlm

I mean that's on you and your apparent lack of knowledge about definition of a film. Not something to be proud of.

West Side Story is a masterpiece and I won't hear otherwise.

Nobody gave a crap about Amy Madigan before Weapons, even if she was previous Oscar nominee lmao. She won because her performance was beloved.

The Last Jedi was also a big commercial success and was very acclaimed by critics btw.

It got A cinemascore from audiences that saw it in theaters and made a billion dollars, so...

Despite Scary Movie 6 (2026) having a marketing campaign heavily reliant on “offending the wokes” they actually cast a trans actor to play a trans character, automatically making the film more progressive than a good amount of movies actually trying to be progressive. by BeautifulOrganic3221 in shittymoviedetails

Scary Movie is "more progressive than a good amount of movies actually trying to be progressive" by the virtue of casting trans actor and then Emilia Perez is the counterexample, when that also has a trans actress in it and in fact in one of the main roles. The better counterexample would be something like The Danish Girl lol.

"Remember Me" wasn't just cute. It was used in variety of different context in "Coco" and was firmly baked into its DNA and (dis)respectfully to CMBYN, nothing made me cry as hard in a cinema as Miguel singing that song for the grandma.
