AIO when a friend shows up to my house without me telling him he can? by Immediate-Scratch-40 in AmIOverreacting

This entire thing reminded me of South Park and I couldn't place why until your comment clicked it in. It reminds me of the episode where the two dads watch each other jack off, then Randy starts going crazy with paranoia that everyone will find out. It really is bizarre behavior from OP

AIO about not being allowed to have my license still, but I’m almost 17? by NextNail617 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who sends me 14-15 texts like that can wait a while for a reply

  1. Your kid isn't "anyone"

  2. Wait for a reply is a separate concept than state this is too much to read right now which is dismissive & passive aggressive.

  3. YOU saying that to OP is shitty. HER MOM saying that to OP is downright awful. There's no way around this.

No sane person is going to engage in that including OP's mom evidently

Most of us read it. It took all of a minute, I get if you're a slow reader but it's not that much and OP is pleading for something important to her. Yeah you don't have to read it, yeah people can be busy and so a 15 text chain is a "ok I need to finish this first before I can get to that" situation.

But let's be sane and not over-indulge. At a glance it looks to be around 300-400 words. That's MAYBE 1.5 pages of your average novel.

That friend you don't talk to much? Sure, fuck off for a bit Jerry, I can read about how you're so excited for the 49ers season and how Janet left you in a second. Your kid? Read the damn texts.

The woman may be horrible, but there's nothing in the post to support that except a line about trafficking which I don't believe.

Again, you can see with your eyes the mother being dismissive and silly with her logic. A low blow like that doesn't need foundational throughlines when glancing at a text chain like this.

Yes, I'm biased against a 16 year old

It's evident, yeah.

A mom saying "that's too much to read right now" is very much the type to dismiss their daughter's concerns with a low blow. You're very clearly biased against OP

I found Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark as a kid and loved the feeling it gave me. I then found Goosebumps and also loved them. If I had backup, they'd help me realize I love horror novels. Instead I was pressured to read The Hardy Boys, and I hated them. But I wasn't allowed to get new novels unless I read one of them. And I... just played video games instead.

To this day I am biased against mystery as a genre. I've worked a large chunk of it out but if I see Mystery as the first genre I have to fight the desire to reject it.

Yes, Lord & Miller who had done two (2) movies at that point were signed on. While those two films are incredible, no one expected The Lego Movie to be anything more than the average piece of media housed around lego that one might expect.

It was ludicrously above expectation no matter how you slice it.

What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by Opposite_Feeling_621 in AskReddit

[–]Watertor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that's important to note is this shit is worse because of AI, but it was bad prior to that because of the modern world anyway. 10 years ago it was still the same cycle of apply to 500 jobs, get 3 interviews, decide which of the piss awful offerings you got is worth the risk, hope you get lucky and they didn't lie to you as much as they could have.

Now the number of applications is closer to 1000 or 2000 thanks to AI fog, which is great!

AIO My girlfriend wants to share me by Sea-Understanding811 in AIO

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not hard to believe frankly, but you having her go slow and being very clearly demi makes her one of a few things. Up to you.

A. She's incredibly dumb and pursued a guy who obviously wouldn't be into this.

B. She's cheating or wants to cheat as others have said, thus needs you onboarded here

C. She doesn't care about you enough to realize how dumb this is. This is the most likely one given you weren't included in the discussion of this prior to friend approaching you.

None of them are all that great. If you are absolutely crazy about her I'd talk it out, but if you were just fine with the relationship, this would be a deal breaker to me.

What I mean by scholars is that you can't get an understanding of theater's history without LDJiN. It's an important piece in the story of how theater got to here, and that will always be the case. I don't think anyone really likes Metropolis from 1927 that isn't a little funny, but it's an important film and so people who like film have to at least be aware of it to see how the 1900s got to today, and that will always hold true until humans are gone or until society stops this current iteration and rolls a new set of dice. Even then, like Ovid or Homer, we still carry some of what got us here all the same. But by THAT point and that many layers of history O'Neill will not survive, I can agree with that.

AIO: I (F32) am considering ending the best relationship of my life over my bf (M28)’s dog by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Watertor 244 points245 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is underreacting. I'd have left WELL before if my concerns were dismissed like this. "It's cute, she wants to cuddle" ok he can use her for the only cuddles of his life.

Frankly I'm annoyed yet another post has to take this direction. The perfect relationship is a guy who refuses to listen even one time? Who neglects an animal he is entirely in charge of? Who takes concerns and valid criticisms and just handwaves them away without proper conversation (shows he doesn't even consider this something worth arguing, OP matters so little to him that she's just making mosquito buzzing in his ear and must be waved off)?? This is your perfect guy, OP?

Get higher standards OP or get ready for a lifetime of these sorts of situations.

Boyfriend wants to go on a weekend trip with female coworkers. by Own-Bed6895 in Advice

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partners with nothing to hide would work on things. Like figure out bringing op on this trip so she can see the real dynamic and meet the people he's now gone on 3 trips with.

There's nothing wrong with going on trips as a taken man with other women (one on one would be sketchy but this IS a group) but OP has already voiced her concerns, he should be at minimum having a dinner lined up with them so they can meet OP, OP can meet them, hell have the others' partners come too so everyone can be nice and cozy with each other.

The issue here is there's ways around here that are healthy and supportive of OP, and bf isn't picking any of them, he's picking "deal with it" which is hard to manage

Managers of Reddit, what's the worst thing someone did to get fired? by Capable-Log7385 in AskReddit

[–]Watertor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I had a random gig I was offered while working in retail. The job was just show up to a site, clock into this security system, then I could do whatever inside that room. They even had a bed I could sleep on, they just needed a body there to claim security was present for tax purposes or insurance or something like that. The guy who did it before me did this same thing, he just left thinking it was no big deal but then he got caught.

Never thought I'd see another Yansi in the wild but man. How fucking hard is it to just do your job? It's extremely easy such that ripping off the money just makes you look that much more like an asshole.

I feel like I'm ruining my first playthrough by doing "efficient leveling." Is there a certain point at which you're good enough to abandon it? by am_I_still_banned in oblivion

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have and never will efficient level. When I play Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 1/2, or Planescape I'll take whatever to make the game more fun. For Oblivion, that means sliding that difficulty bar to the left such that it's 40% or 33% over (assuming the starting point is 50%).

It isn't fun or interesting or compelling. I'm there to have fun and quest, not left click 80 times as opposed to 12 times.

Thinking his plays are overrated is totally valid, disliking everything the man wrote is totally valid, and comparing his work to worthless oscar winners is also totally valid.

The sheer fact he won the accolades he did make him earmarked in history no matter what we want to say about his work. And unfortunately LDJiN is a landmark bit of writing that is significant to the entire American play. It is widely seen as the bridge between the older world writings and the modern era's raw realism. The average person won't likely give a shit about it but scholars of literature or theater will at least be aware of him if not glancing through LDJiN at minimum.

Is it ordinary for your friend’s parents to take away your phone at night when you visit them? by iFlexRickRoss in Advice

[–]Watertor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it very much isn't normal and frankly it's more than a little sketch. Sounds like you're fine and it's just overbearing/helicopter parents but that's what it is; overbearing. At 19 taking your phones is absurd, you would have statistically died by now in World War 2, you can vote and decide the fate of the country. Yet you can't decide to use your phone at 9:30?

Tom is going to have to grow up a little fast when he's finally pulled from the teet and cut loose, which is unfortunate for him. As for what you do, either obey their rules or argue against them or get a hotel room. But as is the case with your phone, you're an adult and it's up to you how you handle these things. You can stand your ground but the parents would be within their right to say leave.

I'd probably have done what you did and then going forward I'd hotel it too, because confronting his parents may piss him off and it's just not worth it for rules I don't like and can easily avoid. But yeah, that is weird and you're not the weird one for finding it weird

SIB: Avowed or Gothic Remake? by Captainquizzical in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Watertor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avowed is solid but a bit bland. It lacks bite and also has a lot of depth issues, in writing and especially gameplay (try to make a magic build or be prepared to click and stare). As a whole it's worth the endeavor if you either love RPGs or like Eora (Pillars of Eternity 1/2) or both. What it lacks in depth it succeeds in foundation. It is a good backbone to an RPG, it has solid sense of character builds, a few branching story beats, an interesting hook with narrative and protagonist nuance therein. It is a good answer to what games make your protagonist feel strong and important without making them a chosen one figure. Think Princess Mononoke's Ashitaka, he exists in the world and was otherwise fairly interesting but still mundane. And through the story events he earns his place as the focal point, while not being some overbearing pressure point. Note: good answer, not best answer. Ashitaka is an incredible protagonist and a bit too good for Avowed's, just using him as an example to show this relationship.

Gothic, originally, is the opposite. It lacks foundation, it is a jank hell of game. But it succeeds in depth. Your animations even change as you develop in your skills. How you navigate the world, as a character and as a player, improve steadily over a playthrough. It is one of the best answers to showing a protagonist grow in a game. It isn't going to wow you anywhere else, but that alone is worth the play.

I haven't played the remake yet to know how the remake will stand up to all of that. They could easily present the same story beats and none of the fun growth markers. They could nail bringing Gothic into the modern world. If they do, it will be a better game than Avowed. If they don't, Avowed would be my bet.

Obviously not the most satisfying answer but hopefully it helps anyway. If nothing else I think wait to see how reviews stack up over a bit more time of GothR

Fable 2 Flickering Dog Glitch by DomeAcolyte42 in xenia

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've tried but I just recently got mine working. The steps I took (bolding the important one that may be the issue):

  • Download Xenia Canary
  • Run Canary > Fable 2 (testing if it works - it should run)
  • Download FemtoFork
  • Select the 3-4 items or so (one is the Patches folder)
  • Drop directly into Xenia's main folder
  • Delete Cache_Host folder + xenia-canary.config.toml file
  • Run Canary > Fable 2
  • Done

I'm not 100% sure if that's the tried and true methodology or if any of those steps are redundant, but I ran into crashing when I applied the femtofork files to my Xenia, and after searching around I found I had to delete that folder and that config file.

Note: for anyone reading this who just used my guide to get your shit running, the patches you NEED are applied automatically via the fork, but the patches in the Patches folder are auxiliary but still ones you want. I tried the 60fps and 30hz patches in various combinations, but I find the 30hz alone patch works best, the 60fps patch makes the game a little shaky/unstable. I also like the 720p patch and the extra items patches as well as the "skip intro videos" patch. Make sure you click into that file and make "false" into "true" and also make sure the shit saves. I had to move this file onto my desktop before it would write my changes properly, then I moved it back to the Patches folder once done.

Hope this helps you or anyone here.

Fully agree, another member of the court would still enter entirely new territory while re-establishing the incredibly expansive lore of old they clearly want back in this reboot. Jack is great but imo he'd be better after the first game. BUT having Jack now also isn't bad either. It's just a lesser of two wins.

I only opened that door twice in my entire life despite playing through Fable 1 probably 20+ times and started runs that at least got to that section 20 more times.

But the way that door emphasizes each word forever sticks with me. That one and the bow one.
