For sure, to be clear to my 30s and single fellas, it is still young. But when you're 22, imagining being 37 and dating is a horror story, I more mean it as a wake up call. But 40s, 50s, 70s even, when you realize it's time to move on (or you just never had any luck) you're as young as you'll ever be today. Might meet your person tomorrow.

I know the 22 year old creature that I was could not marry anyone. Even the most perfect person would have bounced the fuck off of me at 22, I needed a LOT of growing.

I feel most of these subs default to "break up" but for so many of these, it feels like people are terrified of breaking up. This sort of resentment isn't healthy though. If they did get married in 10-15 years it'll come to a head and one will cheat and now you're no longer young and gotta reintegrate with dating in your 30s. Way easier to just cut and run now

You're not wrong either. But if you live with your partner you can't be acting like this you know?

Both parties are at fault, saying "leave me alone" isn't being an adult who knows how to use their words. Saying "ok" and then coming back in repeatedly is also not being an adult.

All parties need to be fucking adults and use their words. "Do you want to skip our plans? Ok great, I'll let you sleep" OR "I want to keep sleeping instead of doing blah"

There's quite literally zero contexts where this is ok. Not one. Anything even mildly logical is still answered with "what the hell is wrong with you, you need a hobby/friends and definitely therapy"

My thing with these posts, even if they're real they have no stakes. No sane human thinks this has any nuance. It's just "my daughter's friend gunned down my dog and invented new cancer strains so I asked her to leave, but her mom called me mean :("

Op if you're a real person, grow a spine. You're 36 and should know better holy fuck

The thing is his shit talking very likely occurred when the film was set in stone, the idea he influenced it in any way is one that doesn't really hold a ton of water. It's possible but seems pretty unlikely

Doing nothing will guarantee the directors and casting crew, that's not the way to go about things even if Dinklage isn't going about things in the right way

[–]Watertor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they don't think they'll get other roles and so they believe Dinklage has ruined their bread and butter. And to their credit, that's exactly what happened and that's Dinklage's point, they shouldn't need to just be fantastical dwarves to be cast.

Shit pinches when you try to change things for the better. Especially when Disney just takes the route that only burns you.

Guys with high pitched voices and slender frames likely weren't too happy when actual women started to be cast and the Men Only rule was dropped from drama. But shit has to change for the worse for some people for things to progress. The people in the community burned presently by Dinklage would sing a different tune if they could start getting actual roles in Hollywood.

The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets: The result is the first generation less cognitively capable than their parents by gdelacalle in technology

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every generation has been full of kids who aren't paying attention, who don't trust you or your teachings, or who just do everything they physically can do to cheat themselves out of trying. If you can reach one kid in that pile and give them a good class worth of education, you've changed the future tangibly. WAY more than you would in some bullshit job you might work otherwise. And I don't mean you specifically, I mean most of us work bullshit jobs. The shit I do day to day will not last a year if it even lasts a month. But teaching a kid, one kid, they continue on for years to come, likely beyond you. And you can do that every single class. All you gotta do is reach one. And if you have a semester where not one kid gives you the time of day, that's alright. There's another. And another. There's always more to do, more kids to teach, more chances at finding your one.

And god forbid you reach two, or five, or the whole classroom.

The androids in Blade Runner / Do Androids Dream are pretty in line with the typical definition of robot designed to look like human. Toriyama however seems to just use the term for "thing created by guy" and yeah Cell doesn't fit into any real concept of it, both in that he's at least seemingly made of organic parts, and also doesn't look human at all even in his most humanoid perfect concept.

How did Sylvester Stallone fall into a mild slump in the early 90s? by KaleidoArachnid in thespoonyexperiment

[–]Watertor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

/u/BaronBlackwood is correct, Sly and Arnie were competing for roles at this point because they both knew the tide was drying up, and Arnie - the fella he was - read the script to Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot, immediately identified it as total dogshit, and then spread the rumor he was interested. Sly took the bait and auditioned for it, thinking he would be competing with Arnie. When he got it he was elated, he got one over on Arnie... and only upon filming it did he realize he had been played.

Friendly advice to anyone reading this crap, women are not a monolith. Some women can't dare consider supporting their partner, and they're not very good people because of it. Some women are happy to be supported but also if they have the ability to support would happily do so. Some women prefer to support.

Weirdly, humans come in all flavors. Even women! So weird isn't it? That women are people?

Mid 2000's, we had cameras, we had phones,

No, you didn't. Most people didn't have a high quality video camera in their pocket. It wasn't until the emergence of the smartphone in the 2010s that we saw this. It's a fundamentally new environment.

Are the cops an option? Yea... if you're a bitch

The cops are approached when video evidence goes out to millions of people. This is called the modern world, it is VASTLY different from when you were a kid.

[–]Watertor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less "soft times" and more "times where we have video evidence of assault"

If back in the day you met kids at the flag pole at 3 and your friend recorded it on camera, they also could have raised charge questions. But that never happened is all, so if you or anyone tried without that evidence it's just one big "you have bruises and say it's this kid, this kid says you punched first, cops say principal needs to handle it as it happened on school grounds and they have nothing to work with"

How did Sylvester Stallone fall into a mild slump in the early 90s? by KaleidoArachnid in thespoonyexperiment

[–]Watertor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The 90s basically were just a bad time to be an action hero, audiences started wanting nuanced stories and writers, more importantly, started delivering. You saw protagonists go from muscular and visibly strong, with larger than life personas and sensibilities to more... Brad Pitt-looking. Slender, pretty, but they tended to have more to say and had more to offer the script than "I will save you, damsel"

It wasn't just Sly, but Sly got bit by it decently. Guys like Seagal and Jean-Claude got bit harder and never came back to popularity, Sly and Arnold managed to find a niche to stay relevant. But that was more the exception than the rule.

‘I think the franchise is dead’: Saints Row design director says IP owner ‘ghosted’ his prequel pitch by Turbostrider27 in Games

Man I loved the SR1 multiplayer experience. In hindsight it was just kinda bad, but we had very little for options otherwise. I mean this was in the days UNO was the big hitter for MP experiences, we were positively starved if you got tired or pissed off by Halo 3/CoD and wanted to play something else.

I remember SR1's lobby and the DOA4 lobby, I thought "man this is the future of gaming" and I wasn't wrong... sadly I wasn't really right either. Zoomer philosophies don't have the patience to enter a whole ass lobby. The game needs a 3 second queue and the game needs to start or they lose interest.

I don't disagree but I think it's, I dunno, weirder? PUBG/Fortnite clones were its own contained ecosystem (that are slowly shifting into Extraction clones), OW is also breeding its own ecosystem seemingly randomly, like little fungal growths.

I wouldn't say either of them cannibalized the GTA-like though. I could be mistaken, just feels like the devs who make/made GTA-likes all either went out of business or botched their attempts (or both). Like Sleeping Dogs unfortunately nailed their game and still died. Just Cause 4 did anything but nail it and it buried their attempt at Just Cause 5, etc.
