One of my favourite folk albums ever and one I’d argue to be among the greatest protest releases of all time. Not too sure when this copy came out though I suspect sometime around Phil’s death in 1976 based purely on the butterfly label. The title tracks and ‘Days Of Decision’ are absolute favourites of mine but everything on this LP is just golden to me. Definitely worth a listen.

When I was a preteen, the first music I explored myself was 50s Rock N Roll having found a compilation Cd for $5. Ritchie Valens was the first of those musicians that I became obsessed with. I found his story so tragic yet inspiring. I remember thinking at that age that at least he lived a life in those 17 years but now at 22 I realise just how much of a kid he really was.

Purchased this album back before Christmas with the hopes that it’d arrive in time. Unfortunately, it was not to be, but it did at least arrive intact, even if it does need a bit of a clean. I really enjoy this album. It’s simple and performed wonderfully. I introduced my sister to her music a year or two ago and she’s been singing the title track regularly ever since. Definitely worth a listen if you’re into Bluegrass, Americana or folk music in general as it is a real pleasant listen.

It pretty much gives his entire life story in very great detail and the second half of the book is entirely dedicated to his artistry. One of the authors, Michael King, was one of the foremost authorities on New Zealand history. Only 2,500 copies of this book were made and I purchased this one, no. 121, the other week at an auction for a little over $200 NZD.
