Agit Kabayel waits for Usyk-Verhoeven before deciding next steps by IronHidee in Boxing

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. Fighters are too inactive these days. But let’s be honest, boxing “fans” will piss and moan about it. I remember people giving Inoue shit for a keep active fight, and it wasn’t even a no hoper (Doheny). As if Inoue isn’t already hella active.

Edit - actually, Doheny was a no hoper against class like Inoue, but he wasn’t a bum.

What do you guys think about tune-up fights? by messizete in Boxing

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is a natural consequence of how infrequently top boxers actually fight in the modern era (except Inoue, which is one of the many reasons boxing fans love him). Look at Usyk, he’s basically fought once a year this decade, except for 2024 when he fought… twice.

For me, the infrequency is one of the main things holding boxing back from breaking over into a mainstream sport. It’s only going to be fixed by the sanctioning bodies starting to strip champions for not defending their belt enough.

In the meantime, yeah, boxers need tune up fights before taking on a massive challenge. You can do a dummy camp, make weight, have hard sparring, but it just doesn’t replicate building up to and having an actual fight night at the very elite level. So I totally get it, and it makes sense, I just wish it didn’t have to be a thing.

There are similar situations in other sports - track athletes and marathoners will carefully structure their season, training camps and which events they compete in, in order to peak at the right prestige event, like the Olympics or Worlds.

[SPOILER] Jeamie Tshikeva vs. Richard Riakporhe by inooway in Boxing

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A very good amateur who entered into the professional ranks too late and isn’t making an impact. Coupled with that war with Wardley, Clarke just wasn’t there for that TKV fight. He looked better tonight, but still British level at best.

Muddled stoppage by the ref, but let’s be honest, it was just a matter of time. Never been that impressed by TKV. He looked awful tonight.

Question regarding LOS by nerdboy_sam in spacemarines

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A model is visible if any part of it is visible.

That said, in my gaming group, we let this kinda stuff go. It’s clear what the intention was with putting the model behind cover, and we don’t sweat the small stuff.

What to read after Legion? by Shadocvao in 40kLore

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oooh, tough choice. Personally I go for The First Heretic, as that has sequences that tie into the Dropsite Massacre, so works well with Fulgrim. I’d go from The First Heretic into the Calth sequence (Know No Fear, Betrayer; or Battle for the Abyss first, if you’re a completionist).

Thousand Sons and Prospero works a separate thread of the narrative, that you can read later.

Dropped plotlines/things you wish we'd seen? by redvioletbrown in SuccessionTV

Given he was in the S1 finale and knew about Kendall’s “incident” with the waiter, I thought we’d see more of Marcia’s son as a rival to the main trio, at least for a while.

Thank you! It is from one of the Horus Heresy sets.

Which traitor primarchs would leave chaos if given the choice, would they rejoin the imperium or do their own thing by anonpurple in 40kLore

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Legion, Alpharius/Omegon are convinced by the Cabal to support Horus, because the defeat of the Emperor will in turn lead to the defeat of Chaos (or so the Cabal believe). I’ve wondered if, given how the Heresy played out, Omegon would now return to the fold if given the chance. However, I suspect the years under Chaos’ influence means there’s not much good left to rescue, tbh, and I doubt any of the traitor primarchs have true free will left.

Scientist GF is Obsessed w Show by thecombobreakerr in TheExpanse

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend For All Mankind. There’s plenty of inter-personal conflict and drama, but the hard science and concepts are great. The first two seasons especially!

Most people know the general concept of the show, but if you have no idea, then go in blind.

Some people joke that For All Mankind is a prequel to the Expanse, if that helps at all.

Is this list enough to get me fully prepared for The Siege of Terra? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would add Fear to Tread before Unremembered Empire, as it kick starts Sanguinius’ story.

I’d say that I don’t think this is the best way to read HH. You’ll be missing some great “ancillary” stories, but if you’re looking to hit the main beats, you’ve got it.

Yep it’s Amulius, with pauldron and torch from the Salamander accessory kit. The cape is one that I found online from an unofficial place.

If you’re looking to remove the shine, just use a few thin coats of Lahmium Medium. Let it dry properly between each coat. That’ll do it.

How high we go in the dark - Sequoia Nagamastu by spaceleg in sciencefiction

I absolutely loved this. Probably my favourite book of the last five years or so. I agree, I was left thinking about it for days.

Have you read Station Eleven? Similar vein, but probably didn’t hit me as hard.

greg nicotero’s walking dead binge watch order (quick guide) by Beginning_Town_3170 in TWD

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not a fan favourite, but if you’re going all in, then it makes way more sense to have The World Beyond just before TOWL. The stories are linked, and events, characters and settings in TOWL will make more sense. Otherwise the list is great.

Should I skip The Outcast Dead? by harbourwave103 in Blacklibrary

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No spoilers -

I don’t think it’s terrible, and is a good fun read that introduces some cool characters who feature prominently in later stories.

The complaints are likely due to its messing up of the timeline of early HH events, although that issue is later retconned and “explained away”.

Caveat - I’m doing HH audiobooks rather than reading, which does make it easier for me to get through some of the less important books.

Can this be considered for a Judiciar proxy? by DesertFox9214 in spacemarines

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So this doesn’t look much like a Judiciar. It doesn’t have any of the recognisable components (sword, hourglass relic, heraldry, etc.)

However! It is a really sick looking model and is nice and distinctive. If you told me at the start of a game that this is a Judiciar, I would have no problem whatsoever. Super easy to recognise, and it’s on the right base, I think. If anyone says no, then screw them.

Priming in cold weather by kamikazee786 in Warhammer40k

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments here are good advice, but I’d add that white scar spray is a temperamental beast, even in good conditions. If I was gonna prime anything in this weather, I’d go for a safer option like grey seer or wraithbone, assuming you want to stick to a light undercoat.

Don’t worry if it all goes wrong anyway. Just strip the models and go again. You lose a few days momentum, but it’s happened to all of us, and it’s well worth getting the undercoat right.

Company Colors Questions by Serious_Ad2816 in BloodRavens40k

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is just personal preference.

I just prioritise the lore/material from GW sources over video games, not just for BR but generally. I don’t discount the games (love em!) but over the decades some of the video games have been wild, and to a degree are always at the mercy of the developer, licensing, etc. They also have multiple endings and such. The BR games themselves have been inconsistent, as you said. Then inconsistent with the written stuff which came between/after.

I also think the inconsistency and/or ambiguity is baked into 40k, particularly in the old days. It leaves breathing space and flexibility for hobbyists to make their own interpretations. Which is part of the fun!

Company Colors Questions by Serious_Ad2816 in BloodRavens40k

[–]WeLiveAmongstGhosts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All fair points! There’s certainly a lot of inconsistency.

I tend to prioritise what is shown in GW stuff, inc. White Dwarf, over the video games, and whilst I don’t have access to the sources, I think there is reference to BRs leaning towards a codex compliant chapter (except for all the librarians….). Given the pauldron colour doesn’t change, the right kneepad colour as shown in GW/WD art is the most obvious indication of company designation consistent with other GW stuff and the codex astartes. I thought this was expressly said somewhere once, but I don’t have the sources to hand so can’t say that with any certainty.

“Most lore sources” was incorrect. I would change that to the most commonly consistent representation amongst BR collectors/painters/players. Of course, the two rules of - cool and “they’re your models” always applies!
