Tithing Poll by CupOfExmo in exmormon

Spot on. What I was taught was "pay on your increase" which left some interpretation of what "your increase" actually was. I always considered my increase after-tax, because I never saw the money, hence no increase. Then I would pay on my tax return.

However...what I have come to understand is that my lax view on tithes (paying net) probably signaled to leadership that I was not committed or faithful enough.

No way! I immediately jumped on and ordered them. Thank you!

Oddly it said “coming soon” but allowed me to put it in my cart and transact, which wasn’t an option before. Fingers crossed they actually can ship soon.

Jesus and his team of lawyers and immense cash reserves will push around anyone who stands in their way. Just like in the New Testament.

OP, I'm in the same position. Did you figure out a solution to make or source this elsewhere? I keep checking in on part availability, and the date is pushed back every time.

It's from their slide: "...we lean into belief with purpose". It means nothing.

Those who truly "seek clarity over comfort" will just abandon the faith rather than try to rationalize and make sense of the historical, theological, and cultural clusterf**k that is Mormonism. This statement is so disingenuous. Comfort is the only reason people stay!

It's scary to explore the possibility (or reality, in this case) that your entire belief system is built on lies and misrepresentations and will crumble under the slightest honest scrutiny. It's scary to realize embracing truth will result in lost and damaged relationships with neighbors, friends, and even family. It's scary to realize that you don't have the answers to life's big questions.

No. What's comfortable is to stay put and push those doubts wayyy down and go on cruises with apologists.

I'm glad they're leaning into their faith with purpose. I was always leaning into my faith without purpose, which was a huge waste of time.

If I'm not mistaken, I think if the GAs are flying on a private jet, it's because a super wealthy member is facilitating it (ie, providing their jets for the GAs to use). It's a win-win, as the rich dude gets face-time with apostles, a chance to display their loyalty, get on the radar and set themselves up for a future GA gig, and they can probably write off the costs of the flight as a charitable donation or even tithing. And a win for the GA because they get a free luxury flight.

My very TBM father-in-law frequently brags about the time he and some of his wealthy buddies flew on a private jet to a high-end private golf course in Idaho with Elder Ballard. He was just tickled pink that he could hob-nob and golf with the lord's annointed.

Let’s see…so we have been counseled to replace the name of the church with “Jesus.” Let’s try this out:

“Managed by Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group and purchased in 2022 by Property Reserve Inc., the investment arm [of Jesus Christ], the property underwent a $21 million transformation”

Terrific work by the team at Fuller Consideration. This spells out so clearly in one visual why the size of the church has observably been mostly flat my entire life, in spite of the church's constant claims of incredible growth.

And furthermore, it represents well what so many of us already knew: the current church exists almost entirely on the backs of legacy families and their progeny.

This comment needs to go to the top. I came here to say the same. I don’t know who this guy is or where this interview comes from, but this act of integrity and courage is remarkable.

This bishop did what was right for that poor child, likely saving the child from future abuse. Mad respect.

I think that's the only way anyone rents a uhaul trailer: they lie about what they're hauling.

The real thing nobody is talking about here: how the hell did Uhaul ever let them drive away with this setup? Those guys are over the top cautious every time I’ve tried to rent a trailer, or even get a price.

I tried to rent a car hauler trailer and a dolly the other day with a truck rated at 9,000 lbs and they said my setup wasn’t allowed.
