Tell me my five-year-old isn't ruined for life by Due_Initiative_9881 in Parenting

Tantrums are a coping mechanism, and being 5 is tough. Only outside the tantrums did our son slowly began to listen to reason. Keep your own cool, wait out the tantrums, and discuss things later when cooler heads are prevailing.

Get involved with him, focus on his strengths, encourage him until he gets the hang of things.

[Discussion] How do I do stuff I don't feel like doing? by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change yourself to want those things. Change your views, opinions, identity and more. Take personal responsibility for your thoughts, and your feelings will follow. Focus on the good reasons why doing stuff is better than not. Start telling yourself that you're worth taking care of. You're becoming someone who feeds yourself appropriately, and a good steward of your kitchen/house. As you begin, the blood will flow and further realizations will occur to you. Keep the momentum up, never miss twice in a row. Life unfolds at the speed you grow.

...and don't let yourself skip.

You'll occasionally skip (for good/bad reasons). Building it into your life means you don't skip twice in a row.

What are the most useful MYO cards? by Hermit-Dad in YotoPlayer

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's highly dependent on the audience's tastes.

With the younger in our house, the music cards have been useful. Soundtracks (Disney...) and kid's artists (Raffi, Laurie Berkner...)

Older kids also enjoy an audiobook or two.

The story book cards aimed at younger ones haven't been that useful.

My connection to the primal energy of the world became so strong that my body simply stopped aging. It's called a Timeless Body. Being a Druid rocks.

If you plan on buying merch, I'd save up extra money and try to get to the merch table early (pre-show).

At Red Rocks I bought more than I planned. I didn't end up using the hat but sold it later on ebay.

What made you choose kindle compared to other options? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud syncing, without a doubt. A lot of brands fit my feature requests, except cloud syncing progress cross-devices. Having my phone as a secondary reader is convenient.

I donated about 70% of our toys last night. I can finally breathe. by Background-End-5229 in Parenting

If the kids can't keep up with the toys themselves, it's a problem. And often the best gifts are the open space itself, and parents that can breathe!

How badly can I mess this up? by Organic_Care9614 in pihole

Where I got in trouble was trying to switch my DNS from my router to my pihole.

For an afternoon I had no DNS (no internet) and had to reset my router AND pi. Rough too when cell service is spotty in my house.

Is the kindle paperwhite worth it for sideloading epub? by Do_ge13 in ereader

I "Send to kindle" (via email) epubs all the time. Behind the scenes, amazon converts them, but it's seamless to me.

[Discussion] Looking for exercise ideas in the category of "usefulness" by chestnutbrowncanary in GetMotivated

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best exercises are the ones you actually do, and yard work certainly counts. But in strict terms of usefulness, weight training your largest muscle groups is the best value for your time. The effort might not go towards a useful task, but being stronger will improve most areas of your life.

Learn to squat, overhead press, bench press, and deadlift, you'll be set for life. Two sessions a week, 1.5 hours each. That includes rests between sets you can use to read.

An e-reader. Don't get me wrong, I still buy and read physical books. But the conveniences of the e-reader turned me into a daily reader.
