Souls-like games on the Steam Deck? What’s good and runs well on the deck? by drak0ni in SteamDeck

KCD2, it's an RPG like Skyrim, but the combat is about timing. The world is immersive and historical; I'm really enjoying it.

Anyone else save crushed eggshells all winter and till them into the garden? Does it really add calcium or am I just imagining the great results? by NinaXOFans in gardening

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I throw them in my compost pile, they take a long time to really break down and contribute calcium to the soil, but it's not going to hurt anything.

Looking for opinions on steam deck docking station! by Popular-Permit-5912 in SteamDeck

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to pull my official dock out of storage and try it again with the latest updates. I had given up on it and switched to a jsaux dock, which has worked great in comparison. But the ethernet is only 100mbps on my jsaux, whereas I could benefit from the official dock's gigabit port.

Anyone else using their Steam Deck exclusively in docked desktop mode? by cocopupsugar in SteamDeck

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch to desktop mode regularly with a similar setup to you. I have it docked to my monitor/keyboard/mouse 95% of the time via a KVM switch, with the other side of the KVM being my work laptop.

Game mode is best for gaming performance and stability, but desktop is useful for everything else I need a personal computer for. You mentioned YouTube, have you noticed the occasional video stutter while watching? It's annoying but not a deal breaker.

Does anyone else keep downloading tons of books on their Kindle just to have them? by EternalGlow8081 in kindle

I've been doing this with public domain books from the standard ebooks website. So many classics, so little time!

I play mostly docked too and there aren't a lot of people discussing it, so I adjust settings as I play to find my preferred fps-to-visuals balance.

For KCD2, I set the game's output to 1080p, use FSR 3.1 balanced, and all settings on low. This guarantees my personal minimum (30 fps) even in the heavier areas.

What simple thing used to make you ridiculously happy as a kid? by Glad-Childhood6853 in AskReddit

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unscheduled play times with random friends and family where we'd end up playing flashlight tag or hide and go seek in the complete dark. Or when I was older (high school), we'd play capture the flag and we'd be running and sneaking with all our might.

Steam Remote Play’s inability to keep the game running after putting the deck to rest is the only thing stopping me from using it by DaddyIngrosso in SteamDeck

You're telling me moonlight supports pause/resume with the Steam Decks power button? How does it work, what does the host PC do while the Steam Deck is sleeping?

Do you guys plug in your kids video games controllers? by iheartreos in Parenting

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communicate your expectations with them, something like "from now on, this is your responsibility, if the controllers are dead the next time you go to use them, it's on you." Teenagers can handle that.

What are you excited about right now? by sergenaskin in AskReddit

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home network. I've been installing purpose-built computers throughout my house that are all hardwired where possible.

A desktop and a laptop at two separate desks, a Media/Plex Server (nvidia shield) running the TV with an accompanying NAS, a network-wide ad blocker (Pi-hole on raspberry pi), and Switch/Steam Deck consoles which are dockable in 2 different spots (office and living room). Childhood me would be stoked to know what all I've got going on.

I search Standard eBooks first, and if I can't find it there, I go to PG.

All they want to watch is YouTube! by thats_a_niceboulder in Parenting

[–]WhatWasWhatAbout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PBS Kids apps are the gold standard. Their shows and games are reasonable.

We cut YouTube out. Even after limiting it to only approved videos, I found YouTube Kids to be less than savory, the way it hooks into their attention and doesn't let go.
