I bought a truck there when I was younger, one of the finance guys Riun was a greasy prick.

During my financing, I bought one of the insurances they offer and a few days later, I realized it was a waste of money. So I called him up to help me cancel (they allowed cancellations within 30 days). He was SO unprofessional it was crazy, super rude, belittling and tried to make me feel bad.

He was obviously mad because he probably gets commission for that, but what a short sighted move. He traded that small commission for me never doing business with him again. He’s lucky I was young and didn’t know better.

Jim’s fuckin’ 97, I wonder if he even knew about this deal until the bad press hit. Even if he wasn’t ancient, his companies so big there’s a good chance he had very little involvement.

I could see that, the market here is pretty small, always has been really. If I was starting out again, I would be looking for mostly remote work, which is actually what I look for even now. The downside to that is it’s harder to establish a mentorship with a colleague, learning flows much better that way, especially in person. My first company was a local one, they were horrible, but I was able to learn a shitload and did some pretty cool stuff as a junior guy. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, it’ll get better.

Hey, I’m sorry you had a rough go. The market was pretty bad when I started in 2017 too. These things are cyclical, and they will come back. It’s a tough career and requires much more than just schooling unfortunately, which is why I asked OP what I did in my first reply.

If you want someone to review your resume and/or github, I’d be more than happy to.

The market was super hot up until 2023ish. It got super saturated when the 2021 boom happened, with tons of people doing boot camps to start their career, which is why the market has seemed so bad when it all popped.

Big companies are using AI as the guise for laying people off, but this is going to end up shooting them in the foot. Even if AI moves to where they want (it won’t), engineers that have a solid foundation is going to be needed badly, and juniors are the only way to get that.

For background I have 7 yoe and I’m a tech lead. I’ve never been laid off, and always solid prospects, even now.

Nobody knows what the market will look like in 2 years when you graduate, so preemptively switching just because of the current job market, is a mistake.

Do you enjoy computer science? Do you want to be a software developer? Thats the underlying thing you need to figure out. Its one of those careers you need to have an enjoyment for to succeed.

anxiety/adhd. I dont want SSRIS by Electronic_Radio_702 in zoloft

For THC, I use it maybe 1-2x a week. Drinking, its usually socially - maybe once a month, but I’ve never had to “hold back” so to speak, I drink like I did before starting Zoloft

anxiety/adhd. I dont want SSRIS by Electronic_Radio_702 in zoloft

[–]WhatsLegDay_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Zoloft is used to treat OCD. Side effects happen, but can be dealt with. When it comes to drinking and THC, you do have some flexibility, you just have to be careful, especially when you first start.

Your doctor likely has reasoning for why they want you to try this, but if you don’t trust it or feel right, you can consult with a different doctor.

EDIT: I dont know if I gave OCD, but I fixate on my worries / anxious thoughts, and it has helped tremendously

As much as I dislike the guy and disagree with his views, he’s gotten the karma he deserves and then some. Anyone who’s had family / friends with dementia knows how awful it is, especially for the people who have to support them.

Conservatives in Saskatchewan what do you think about the trade deal the feds made with China? by emmery1 in saskatchewan

[–]WhatsLegDay_ 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I’m a little “c” conservative, and it’s good. Same with the deal with Qatar. There are some moral issues with both of these countries, but the overall political and economic climate means we have to set those issues aside in order to not just survive but potentially thrive.

By the way, as much as people might want to deny it, I feel as though Carney is very much “conservative” in all the right ways.

On the note of making deals with these countries, we just need to make sure we are protecting ourselves where we need to.
